That was very helpful - now to go check my pine cones! I'd love to see a video of the different 'candles' on the pines in the spring. As I'm wondering if that's a good way to ID different trees?
The biggest pine cones in Tahoe are sugar pine. If it was shaped like this you have a big Pondo. If it was more elongated and oval shaped, like a loaf of bread you have a sugar
I’m in the Siskyou mountains at the moment. Is this the northern limit to the range?. I’m at the end of the Howell Botanical Drive and the Forest Service website says the Oregon State Jeffrey Pine is here and named after Howell the first botanist to write a guidebook on Oregon plants. I’m working my way down the coast to California and excited to see more species.
I wonder what the growth rate in inches per year for Jeffrey pine that is One year old and 5 inches tall if planted! 36 inches of annual rainfall per year also!
@@davidwright1402 Nice. I ended up getting a dwarf Jeffrey pine, it's meant as a ornamental tree/bush, but we have an small blue spruce that was supposed to be ornamental too, but now it's growing into a tree, so I am hoping the same thing will happen.
Give this girl a raise.
Great video. Isn't there also a difference in the number of flakes on the bottom of the cones?

It would be nice if you show the 2 different trees.
