The song is about the Meji government's army and the Miya san, which means the prince. In this song, the prince is Arisugawanomiya Daruhito, one of the royal family. As I know, "Tokoton yare ton yare na" is sound of drum, something like "trum dum dum" sometimes used as "beat'em down". I didn't know there was meaning "Fight hard as you can"... That was new to learn.

Not even standard tactics. You never cut and run like that. You have another squad ready and order them to move up while the old squad moves to the side and draws swords or reloads. You have squads covering. Or initiate a fighting retreat to a position where another squad is fully loaded ready to fire. That’s standard tactics. That commander likely wasn’t experienced or trained enough to command anyone. If the enemy gains ground force them to pay that’s standard tactics.
Why the samurais rejected firearms? They have been used firearms in Japan for centuries. The only reason is that the soldier's role in combat has been reduced to ordinary citizen, while samurais are still trying to keep their roles, pays, and status in armed conflicts!
They had fire arms since Portuguese brought them, they have good quality firearms, match locks... Shogunate later imported better firearm and tried to create modern infantry but too late(for those days), Emperor were first. Those riffles shown in video, were proper riffles, with riffled barrel and bullet, not matchlock nor flintlock. It is American Civil war technologies, even the machine gun. Samurais used fire arms since Oda Nabunaga and before.

@ ラストサムライは見たのだけど、これは文献に残って居るのは事実なんだよ。
実際戊辰戦争関係の文献には、勝利した側の政府軍が、西郷隆盛を討ち取った後に反政府軍側に敬礼して慰霊碑を建てた、慰霊碑自体は調べれば直ぐに出るしね。後そもそも西南戦争自体が憎悪の戦争では無かったから、大久保などの政府側は元々は西郷と同志であったのも有るし。
頑なに史実を理解できないならそのままでいいよ〜
