- The Pentagon said the U.S. launched airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen with B-2 stealth bombers. The strikes targeted five underground weapons facilities. I'm a Yemeni who is living in Yemen. Although I disagree with the US government, I genuinely love and respect Americans; they're among the most kind and hilarious people I met back in 2009 when I worked as a tour guide in Yemen. Most Americans are just people who want to live their lives in peace, raise their families, and take care of their kids. I sincerely hope that one day the war in my country ends and things return to how they were in the 2000s, when there were lots of tourists in Yemen. If the war ends, and I manage to survive safely, I would love to work as a tour guide once more.

The Houthis are attacking ships that deliver goods from the Middle East to the rest of the world. What goods come from that part of the Middle East? OIL. If oil tankers can't get through, what happens to global oil prices? They go UP. If the price of oil goes up, what happens to the price of everything else? It goes UP. So, tell your friend that by preventing the Houthi's from attacking ships, prices on everything that you will buy and do won't have to go up because of resticted oil shipping from the Middle East.
What's your solution? Let them shoot rockets at civilian cargo ships?

Some responses seem to be bots, but speaking for myself, it's a matter of scale. Even with lots of Iranian backing, the Houthi's haven't proven to be a very effective force. I don't know that we need to send a 2 billion USD plane that costs 3.5 million dollars a month to maintain to drop a bomb that I'm sure costs 10's of millions of USD more to destroy the weapons depot of a force that can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn when that "barn" is a merchant ship transporting a few million USD of goods.
I'm sure missions like these are more to rectify annual budgets than to deal with a threat in a proportional way.
