Nice to see how once was Deveron Way turned out, but to be fair Foxbar was tidier back in the 70’s when I lived there……I feel compelled to go back there and tidy up all that wasteland, makes it look like a pure dump!!! Enjoyed the great video :)
I grew up in Findhorn Ave in the 70`s , can remember my Mum sitting out the backdoor drinking tea with the neighbours , they all took turns each at cutting the grass and cleaning the close , changed days , I remember some housing inspector women from the council would come round now and again to check on things ( as a child I got the feeling people were scared of her ) lol I think it must`ve started going downhill once she stopped coming round (council probably bagged her ,cutbacks) Renfrewshire council couldn`t run a bath. I meant to edit the video, cut some bits out and add some bits I`d forgotten about like Mannering way has long gone and numbers 1 to15 Mannering Rd also gone , closes in Beauly Dr also gone , al maybe get round to it one of these years lol Thanks for commenting anyway 👍
Great video, rekindled a lot of memories of my childhood playing in a lot of those streets that have long since gone. I can even remember the names of many families who used to live in so many of the streets. I'm sure the street where you mentioned Tay or Nith Avenue is Nith Avenue, as the remains of the road layout are what I remember it being. I was just thinking about the Porelli ice & Parducci ice cream vans and was amazed you still encountered one in Maree Road. There was a lot of poverty amongst those living in the tenements, but everyone knew each other and there was a much better community. Sad to see the old St Paul's Primary school building now gone, it was a great school and the headmaster Stewart McLean was always a good laugh - you could never see him in his office as it was like a fog with all the cigarette smoke. I think St Paul's is now addressed as being in Morar Drive, for me it will always be in Orchy Crescent. I can even remember the old wooden jetty at Durrockstock Dam and when you could take small boats out in summer (which were ligned up alongside that old slanted stone sort of pier). Haven't been in Foxbar since 1992.
Aye my kids went to St Paul's and its in Orchy Crescent in my eyes. Mr McLean was my primary school teacher in St Peters in Glenburn, then he ended up being *my* kids headmaster ! What a man, couldn't meet a nicer guy, I assume he's probably passed away now.
Foxbar is the biggest housing scheme in Paisley which is the largest town in Scotland , so many people lived here until the high flats and many of the tenement buildings were demolished.
I grew up with the Scottish & Jewish bookkeepers of John Ralston, the actual founder of Bank of America. I lived behind his mansion as a teenager in Belmont, CA. A. P. Gianinni didn't " found" the bank , despite what the Gianinni funded documentary says which only aired on public television. We were the Carlmont Scots, the high school that was basis of the movie " Dangerous Minds" which isn't really factual. Please forgive my intrusion, and my best to you and yours.
I loved this wee video : I originally grew up 15 Lexwell Road : spent most of my time at my aunts and cousins at 7 Findhorn Avenue , then stayed with my sister at 2 Tummel Way ; I LOVED Foxbar back then so many great friends ! Bet we all know some of the same people surely? Steven Bowie David Lang Colin Fleming Tina Fleming Sandra Lindie Sharon Cruickshanks Michelle Mcgregor Fiona ( Froggy ) The twins Michelle and Andrea (up Ivanhoe Rd) Tracey Lang , Paul & James Grey Maggie-Ann McCrae of course loads of others as they had siblings Danny Carroll Derek McPherson and many others…. Take me back!
