She always makes me cry when I ha+ve had the chance to listen to her, I even had the chance to sing with her at Houston Grand Opera on Rigoletto, she stole the show... amazing voice and acting and a beautiful person, a little shy and a pure soul. GREAT!!!
I just love her interpretation of this. A lot of singers do something that looks like the robot to this. I love that she's got personality, but you never forget she's a doll.
Recently I've listened to many different sopranos singing Olympia's doll aria. Claycomb's voice and high notes are the purest I've heard. She's just wonderful.
What fabulous technique! To be able to walk around, bend over, get pushed around the stage, etc. while hitting all the high notes squarely on pitch is not an easy feat. Obviously, Ms. Claycomb had good training and teachers before she became famous. Brava!
O, my dear Laura! In such difficult times you gave your hand of help, your amazing personality and opportunity to play so fascinating music! Thank you for all you have done for me!
each production is unique and entertaining in its own. It doesn't have to be compared to the best there is. sheesh. I think this was absolutely unique and imaginative. one of the most entertaining arias in this opera.
:O her range is fearsome! and ignoring how high she goes... :O her control on dynamic!!! my god! my god!!! you can have a high A even a high B... but NO! if you can't control it... it's useless!!! She's a great one! from now on, my favourite interpreter of Olympia!
I love to listen to Laura. We actually studied with the same teacher at SMU. I heard her for the first time when she was in high school. She was just as amazing then. I was a Senior when she started at SMU and she would put us "advance" students to shame.
Fantastic performance. I thought the vibrato was free and glimmering. There's always some twits who can't recognise true ability like this, just as some called Pavarotti pinched, and others called Sutherland warbly. This was brilliant.
Sie ist sensationell-Ihre Hig-notes ( C,D,E und F) sind grandios.Die Aufführung ist liebenswert und geschmackvoll-Bravissima Laura Claycomb-danke bestoperalover-
@LORDNARCISSUS there are trills within the piece. They are around 1:30, 3:03 the G and the Bb right after at about 3:06 are both trills and then again after the repeat at 4:23, and then the last two are the two notes right before he high Eb at 6:03. The rest is her natural vibrato. Hope that helps!
I'm a leggo soprano, and trust me, even for me, this is hard, but I used to be a mezzo, it took me years to increase my range. Work on some of your whistle registers and it will start to come a little more naturally. My range is just now touching on G6, so I believe in you!
im new to this kind of music. n this performance is the first i watched, n i keep watching this because it is so fucking good, amazing, talented ect. omg!
La relève de Natalie D est là depuis un moment et commence a se faire connaître du grand public et pas seulement des afficionados, c'est mérité car Laura est une cantatrice de toute première grandeur !
@ollie3003 I can understand in a way! I sing opera, and I like lighter vibratos, I suppose because that's what I have, but some are truly overbearing, thought I think she's just amazing! :)
this looks very, very similar to the version on TH-cam called "Les oiseaux dans la charmille Ľubica Vargicová": I see they have the same director. I wonder whether they are different actresses in the same production, did he like his first production of it so much he did it again the same way? Hmmmmm....
Her singing is generally fine, but there is one part that she sings that drives me nuts (and not in a good way). When she sings the 16th notes going back and forth from E-flat to F in both the eighth and twelfth measures of the song, it is uneven, to the point that not even "creative license" can excuse it. The timing seems a bit off to me. This version of the show is fantastic, but I'll always love the movie version with Moira Shearer.
Ah! Voilà la chanson mignonne La chanson d'Olympia! Ah!
for starters...her hair!! Secondly, her fucking control is so ridiculous that I can hardly stand to listen to the entirety of this song. My oh myyyyyy. What a lovely lovely lovely rendition! Thanks for sharing Bestoperalover.
@bestoperalover: Hello, happy new year! Can you advise where i can find exactly this video like a complete opera? Thank you very much in advance. Best wishes

I live her light, beautiful coloratura and her thrilling vibrato.
Oh my god. This is god level singing. Wow. This is the most impressive opera singing I've ever seen in my life

In the story, she's an automaton, and obviously a very imperfect one. I think Claycomb does an amazing interpretation :)
What a fabulous performance! Great singing and entertaining to boot.

This has to be either the bride of Frankenstein or the tales of scary doll.
lol Creepy but her Voice is Impressive and beautiful great Coloratura technique
I thought of the Bride of Frankenstein, too. I wasn't keen on the makeup, but her voice was magnificent.

Walaweyhhh.. looks like she doesn't open her mouth but her voice was projected clearly and loud ! Very2 energetic !
She is charming voice.
stunning
wow, I know absolutely nothing about opera, but i have to say, this is a REALLY good introduction!
Damn.. I love the design aspects of Opera verses Musical Theatre
inCREDIble
she made that hellish A-flat oh-so-heavenly!
Laura Claycomb is the f*cking BOMB. BRA-VAA.
My favorite part is at 4:03 when she tries DIVING over the people in front, like, "OOOOOOOOOOH! WHAT'S THAT??" Just like a little child! Wonderful.
A very loud brava for this performance (plus the makeup makes her look like Glenn Close). I just listened to her Zerbinetta and loved it.
braaavaaa
la amoo
she is amazing
The staging is very interesting. Steampunk Hoffmann!
Super!!!
I'm fearing when i watch this. I will cry i can't watch this until the end. :'(
4:23-4:30 FUCKKKKKKK.That's crazy.
I am so lucky to Wikipedia ( as Lyric coloratura singers ) brought me here as well
La relève de Natalie D est là depuis un moment et commence a se faire connaître du grand public et pas seulement des afficionados, c'est mérité car Laura est une cantatrice de toute première grandeur !
Gahh I need to learn this song (:
Good look!
Song?!!
@altanotte Just what i was thinking! Revisiting this video for the second time on youtube, I am just as in awe as I was the first time.
I like the Frankenstein setting :-)
The boy whose hair the doll touched at 3:29 is so cute. :P
The best.
Wow, she's amazing, totally love this version
@ollie3003 I can understand in a way! I sing opera, and I like lighter vibratos, I suppose because that's what I have, but some are truly overbearing, thought I think she's just amazing! :)

I have to learn this for my vocal teacher, any advice or suggestions?
Where can i find this opera complete??? Please, tell me, I need to wach it before I die.
The Tale of Hofmann
As a lyric mezzo, I'd kill to be able to sing this aria at least ONCE.
Wow
Good LORD, does she finally settle her breath?!
How wonderful! Do you know where I could get a copy of the entire production?
@bestoperalover:
Hello, happy new year! Can you advise where i can find exactly this video like a complete opera? Thank you very much in advance.
Best wishes
@mephistophelico umm no? lol laura claycomb's vibrato is actually steady. and she's always on her air. plz tell me u kno what that means? lolol
is this Olympia's only scene? I'm playing her part this coming summer, I'm excited!
I don't care how she's dressed, that's the director's choice, maybe it worked as a whole. But her voice is AMAZING!!! :)
@skbdians well I believe that opera by its very nature is sung from the diaphragm and not so much from the throat or mouth.
