The swinging is terrible in amazing spider-man 2. They don't stick to buildings. Doesn't matter how off the camera is you'll know they don't stick and it's the same web swing animation over and over again. The combat is where it comes close. ASM2 had a slower paced combat. Each hit or kick is almost a 2 second window for another hit to follow up then you have to keep doing it til he's dizzy then web him down. What I DID like about ASM2 are the stealth encounters. You can take a thug down silently anywhere you're positioned. web rush is pretty cool but seems a bit exaggerated. Insomniacs spider-man fixes everything wrong about TASM games. They should take a bow for their love and hard work on spider-man
Not to this amount of detail no. New York monuments and Easter eggs of the marvel universe is something to be awed and marveled at. If there was an awards called the best representation of New York game, insomniac should be awarded for it. Tell me a game that is presented better than this set in New York Pathfinder?
Has anyone else noticed how if you walk alongside the Sanctum into the street, it's actually the same building that Tony walks past in Infinity War when the ship arrives in New York, after he walks out of the Sanctum.
I was hoping I'd see this comment.. I was amazed when I saw that long street next to the Sanctum from Infinity War.. What I also noticed is that Washington Square Park is nearby too. This is accurate as its the same park where Tony gets thrown into and where Spiderman arrives in the film.. Those little details just shows how much care was put into this game. Amazing

Yup, it definitely is. Though the other games won't be made by Insomniac but other companies. There is an Avengers project in the works over at Square Enix / Eidos and more are coming our way. That's probably (partly) why no other Marvel hero has made it into the game.

In fact, Insomniac games got to pick the Marvel property they wanted to make a game about and they chose Spider-Man. The rights to other franchises are going to other companies and yes, it's all connected. If it wasn't, we'd probably have seen some other characters in Spider-Man.

I don't remember who did it but a while back I saw a TH-cam video about just that where someone talked about the Just Cause 3 DLC and how that game basically has Iron Man's mobility down perfectly.
I could've sworn there's a building in the game that looks like Harry's house from the original Sam Raimi's trilogy. I thought it would be on there. I guess it's not the one but it looks really similar
the landmarks locations in the game are mostly different from real life, so if you're not familar with with NYC geography it might take you a min to find, it's literally on the east side right next to the bay in midtown or just go east from the empire state and youll find it
I never thought I would see the same kind of scale that made the Spiderman 2 game so good. The Amazing Spiderman games were small and depressing by comparison.
They could've done the whole island of Manhattan. Would not have been too hard. Look at Ubisofts recent open world games which can fit multiple Manhattans in one map.
I think Stan Lee would have been very proud of this Spider-Man. I think the studio did a great job of keeping it true to his vision for the character and setting from decades ago. It's hard to imagine a better Spider-Man game, honestly; and I'm not even that crazy about the franchise.
So this explains why the Avengers tower is never seen in the Netflix shows, the tower is in the upper east side, and Hell's Kitchen is south from the upper west side. I'm upset there were no Luke Cage references.
What would have made it better is the inclusion of street ally cats, washing lines with clothes on them, rubbish and newspapers flying about, dynamic day/night weather system, helicopters that can be be interacted with, access to Statue of Liberty. Hopefully we see these things are added in Spiderman 2 on PS5.
I was a little annoyed because I can’t recreate a picture I took of the Empire State behind Washington square. They also moved landmarks around a lot. Like how in real life, the Empire State is much further from grand centeral terminal.
I was watching my friend play the game, and had him go to my school, right behind Lincoln Center. It was an apartment building in the game. I feel sad.
I don’t know how the rights to a building’s external structure can be revoked. If you ask me if you can see a building from the street then it should be a part of the public domain since it’s presence becomes part of a City’s culture.
For a game map that you can traverse relatively fast by webswing, it puzzles me that they shrunk the island. It most definately wasn't done to make the player get faster from a to b.
They always leave out the Hood. There is nothing of the Baruch house's on the Lower East side, which are like an entire village unto itself. they also left some of the tallest buildings north of 70th street, Taino Towers.
Fun fact: There used to be a glitch that let you go out of bounds (it’s been patched) and surprisingly enough the Statue of Liberty is actually detailed BUT there’s no collision so you can’t walk on the island.
There are tons of streets missing. I worked at 49th & 6th. I went to look for it, but there is no 49th Street or 6th Ave. It goes from 48th to 50th, and skips 6th Ave, too.
I'm so sad that the AT&T Building (The windowless Control's "Oldest House") is missing from Marvel's Spider-Man and also i miss the Chrysler Building in Miles Morales
My friend and I were looking for the wall street bull, but didn't know where it is so we looked it up on Google maps and used the actual streets to find it. They're not 100 accurate but it was good enough for us to actually find it.

True. The 5 Burroughs constitutes the greater NYC area. On a letter though, you address Manhattan as New York, New York. You address Brooklyn as Brooklyn, NY. Queens as Queens, NY and so on. I get your point though. Manhattan island actually has less than 1/6th the total population of what is considered to be the population of NYC. There is no way this game could have rendered 5 Burroughs though without seriously scaling it down to absurdity.
No mention of Madison Square Garden? It's one of the most iconic sports arena's in the game, and was one of the first landmarks I had to check out. They did a great job with it.
As video games technology and memory progress it would be dope to have a spider man set in all 5 boroughs even though it would be massive it would be cool asf
They did a good job on the map, but True Crime New York did a better Manhattan. 1:1 with most landmarks, save for some statues replaced with generic ones but otherwise most major buildings are there. And this is from 2006.
The only map problem i have is that the rockefeller center is TINY. Also i would of like to see the avengers tower from 'The Avengers' instead of the new one AND 432 park ave. But yeah. The rest of the map i love.
GTA did other parts a little Brooklyn, some Bronx and queens. And some would say a bit of Jersey. This focuses on just what they needed for the story. I think even the RAFT is supposed to be a bit further out from the city.
OWT is also totally in the wrong place, far far too north. There are a bunch of other landmarks that did make it in, some of which only real New Yorkers might notice. Museum of Natural History is there, though different. Despite the Met being gone, Cleopatra's Needle is still there, although in a different spot, as is Bethesda Fountain and Terrace. Flatiron and Chrysler buildings are in there, as well. Lesser known things like the Brookfield Place mall, the 96th street Mosque, Stuyvesant Town, Grant's Tomb, and Columbia's Campus (as Morningside University) are all in there, with Columbia's campus actually being not a terrible rendition. Also entertaining is the fact that the Damage Control building is right where the ugly Verizon building is, and shares a similarly ugly aesthetic. There are a few more random-ish locations like Castle Clinton (where there's a combat challenge) and a few others, too. Also entertaining is that the OsCorp tower is right where Trump Tower would be, and Norman's hair was totally not an accident in the game. But yeah, only other game to come close to this level of detail was The Division, which was actually scary accurate in some places.
Why would Uncle Ben be buried in Manhattan when he died in Queens? Seems like Insomniac was just trying to copy Arkham City's Crime Alley mourning option.
Some buildings and places they had to change probably because of licensing issues. The owners of the buildings probably wanted lots of money. So the creators probably ended up replacing them with new but similar buildings.
I hope insomniac gets some kind of award(s) for this game, it was clearly made with love

ESU is based on Columbia University. The buildings are literally the same. It has Butler Library and is located in the same neighborhood.

Manhattan is not NYC, it is 1 of 5 boroughs that make NYC, Manhattan merely makes NYC.

The biggest omission is Four Freedoms/Baxter Building. And I can pretend the Sable Base in Central Park is where the Xavier School should be.

Nah. This game is great, but Dragon Quest XI was WAY better and blows Spider-Man out of the water. Even though this game WAS still very good.
