Completely logical, the NFL has a massive inventory of games that most people never see. They could easily add another bye and make more revenue just by making more games accessible to more eye balls and therefore more ads.
There's only 48 that dress for the game and there are 55 on the roster so at minum all 55 need to be available to play and have slots for the ability to sign a player for a finite number day contract sort of like how MLB and the NBA does it.
@GoldTau-km9dmto my knowledge only 2 QB's had season ending fractures last year. I'm confused by ur comment yet would be obvious yet they probably wouldn't have made it through HS football
Been saying this forever. Less preseason, even 18 game schedule, more roster. Give them two byes. Put the Super Bowl on a holiday weekend in February, Monday off.
Simms: “Nobody would have to go to work the day after the Super Bowl which would be great.” Um my sir what year and world are you living in? The only people who “don’t have to work” on mild federal holidays like Presidents Day are people still in old school, comfy office jobs. Literally everyone else works. Very (unintentionally) disrespectful to millions of people who still have to work on mild holidays.
Fuck that, they need a farm system like NHL/MLB. Players need live reps, and as the league moves to an eventual 20-game schedule, they will need two QBs every season.
Even at my old age if I remember correctly my church had their fall gathering on Labor Day weekend. And somewhere somehow was either a radio playing from a car truck or other radio the football game. And that included the loudspeaker system from the church
Lets face it. Divisional games are the first goal for all teams. They should be as evenly played as possible. I don't think divisional games should be scheduled before week 3. This gives them time to establish themselves and make adjustments after a couple of live fire games. I also think that bye weeks should be the same for all games in the division. Playing a divisional opponent unrested while the opponent had a week off un-evens the playing field divisionally. They should also be held consecutively in the middle weeks of the season. Divisional standings should be more truly represented. Fair is fair. But I am not too sure the league cares about that.
Yeah considering the weight of divisional games when it comes to the post-season, I'm not sure why there isn't a more concise way of scheduling them. There should never be a division in which one team plays 2-3 of their divisional games in the first 6 weeks and another team in the same division that plays 2-3 divisional games in the final few weeks
It's really simple... 6 weeks in - NFC goes on a bye 7 weeks in - AFC goes on a bye 12 weeks in - NFC goes on a bye 13 weeks in - AFC goes on a bye Rotate every odd/even year on who gets the bye first..... This solves everything in terms of a bye so everyone gets an even balance bye - make the roster 60 players total.
I’ve been arguing that injuries as a function of meaningful games is probably exponential, not linear. In other words just one more game adds more than just 1/18 more injuries; it’s probably worse than that. I’d like to see numbers though.
Almost certainly. I imagine in the same way multiple small collisions are worse over time than 1 giant one, by the end of the season being so tired and beat up already they would be far more likely to suffer significant injuries. At least in my opinion, it makes logical sense.
It might resemble somewhat of a reverse bell curve. injuries at the start of the season from guys/rookies that aren't completely prepared mentally to go at 100% game speed at the nfl level. Like you are saying, more injuries occurring later on due to the cumulation of wear and tear throughout the season, resulting in greater risk of debilitating injury as more games are played. Although injuries at the start of the year might also be more prone to being underreported as well for various personal/team reasons too.
I like the idea of players only playing 16 games, in an 18 game schedule. So backups get 2 games. Strategic planning by teams. “What game do I sit Josh Allen…. Vs the Jets?”
Omg this is exactly what I’ve been saying for a while. 2 pre season games, 18 regular season games, and a very important 2 bye weeks. All makes perfect sense.
If the players agree to an 18th game, they need to shorten the length of rookie contracts. The longer the season, the shorter the career. The shorter the career, the fewer players who get to the second contract. This is why baseball teams have little concern over teaching every pitcher to either throw it as hard or spin it as much as they can every time. If they ruin their arm three years in, it was just three cheap years for the team and on to the next one.
I'd agree on that ,but teams would never agree because they love to keep their players as their prisoners. If you remember Steelers slapped Le'Veon Bell with exclusive franchise tag twice that should tell you why they will never agree.
there should be a rotation where teams get their bye weeks. Meaning this past year if a team had an earlier bye week they should be first to get a mid to late season bye. I dont know if the NFL already does that. It would seem that a mid season bye i.e. games 8 to 12 are the most valuable. Late season byes of most value to teams trying to get healthy for a late season/playoff run. In a perfect world all teams would get a by in weeks say 6 to 10 and then again in weeks 12 to 16. The byes need to be fair for all the teams.
The 18th game should be another round for the wildcard teams with the worst records. You don't need 14 teams in the playoffs. That's almost half of the league.
Thursday games need to be eliminated or surrounded by week off before and after. Example, a week 4 Thursday game would also have week 3 and week 5 off. This would be the 2 weeks off in a Borrow proposal. This should be one Thursday game for team and all of them in the middle ish of the season.
2:09 Huge difference between '93 and now. '93 had 16 games and 2 Bye weeks, future NFL is looking at 18 games with the suggestion of 2 Bye weeks. NFL would have more games to fill those slots and it would essentially be the same as right now
Totally against 18 games. There should have been 2 byes with 17 games. They are also playing 2 Thursday games. They wouldn’t know they are just sitting at their desk.
They didn't Add a game when it went to 17 and they won't be Adding a game when/if it goes to 18, they made the 4th preseason game a regular season game and they do it again so u only have 2 preseason games and theres no bi week between preseason and regular season so its not like anything is actually changing other than the value of the current 3rd preseason game
It's time they take the preseason down to 1 game. Yes it hurts aspects of the game we as fans don't care about, however the reality is the games have to come from somewhere. You can't have it all. If the regular season is starting sooner or ending later the players need another bye that's going to add a week so that two weeks between the 18th game and the second bye. It has to come from somewhere.
I want 18 so we get #1 and #2 seed playoff byes again. Also teams with a better record should get in the playoffs before a sub 500 team in a trash division. Not to mention them getting a home game. Looking at you NFC South, AFC South
It would never happen but having a week break from the NFL towards the end of the year would be nice. Christmas would be a good option but they are moving in completely different direction. I think players will be very lucky to get second bye
Most Americans would most like build their labor celebrations around the games if they decided to go that route. It I don’t think the viewership would go down, I think it will be higher than ever.
He didn't say to not have any football he said to do it during pro bowl week so you would have games and all the skills stuff they need to make the pro bowl worth watching again to make it work
Just make it the same for all teams, this rest differential between teams makes for uneven biased games. They need to pull the plug for a couple of weeks and stop being so damn greedy. Stop with the greed. Gotta make it less brutal for the players and keep the quality of play.
18 games means one less preseason games. so. 2 bye weeks 2 more roster players 25 players on practice squad for week one. 22 players on practice squad for week two. 18 players on practice squad for week three and rest of the season. (currently 16 players)
Second bye weeks, AFC play all divisional whilst the whole NFC rest, reverse it the week after, AFC rest whilst NFC play all divisional. Or is 8 games only not acceptable for tv?
They are clearly going to go to an 18 game schedule, but I believe they’re going to push it back later into February , and not move it up to Labor Day weekend
It’s starting to get tricky. If you have an 18-game schedule with two byes that’s 20 weeks, or about five months. It’s a little shorter than that for a couple reasons, one being the classic off-by-one mistake. (Two game weeks is really only one week to start your induction proof). But if you start in September you’ll run the regular season deep into January I believe. Now you could start the regular season the first week of September but I believe that’s Labor Day maybe and the NFL doesn’t want that. So the earliest you’d start would maybe be the week after Labor Day. (You could argue it’s no different as you’re simply substituting a preseason game with a regular-season game. But I think the NFL probably set things up originally to divide preseason and the regular season with Labor Day.)
They already start the regular season the weekend after Labor Day. With the way they’re heading, with Black Friday afternoon games and Christmas Day games, I don’t think they’re afraid of playing on Labor Day. Now you could argue, it’s the last big weekend of summer and outdoor activities for a lot of people, so maybe that could hurt viewership a little. But I think they’d still do it. If they start that weekend, the regular season would end where the Wild Card weekend is today. Meaning, the postseason only gets pushed back by one week, and the Super Bowl is the day before Presidents’ Day. I’d be ok with that.
He didn't say shut down the sport for a week. He suggested it to be the pro bowl week. However, that would seem to interfere with the purpose of having an off week.
Owners want more revenue to pay these half billion $ contracts... but then even more players will be holding their hands out if more $ is generated.. salaries go even higher.... so it's a catch 22... and 2 bye weeks did suck in '93 but not as bad as '99 when their was an odd number of teams (31) when the expansion Brownies showed up ...meaning EVERY WEEK someone had a bye... If rapacious greed lusts to inflict longer seasons by force, at least do it through bye weeks. They're screwing themselves. The 17th game & expanded playoff violated the regular season... 16 games + 4 byes = 20 weeks of meaningful games.
Every regular season game's had the spirit ripped out it. Seeding is no longer worth competing for. There's no meaningful reward, just 17 rounds of pain until all (depleted) half-decent teams face off meaningfully once.
The NFLs overwhelming greed is turning me and a lot of other people off. Its disgusting. I am Very close to tuning out and not following the nfl anymore. I can follow baseball and basketball and he just fine.
every year they soften up the game and then want to add more games. Go back to 16 games. Id even be happy with 14 if they let them actually play defense like they used to. But they just want to use it as a cash machine while they trample on our sports.
WOW nobody has to go to work President Day ??? More people have to work than get that day off. Us clock punching hourly workers call that a BS Holiday cause WE DON’T Get off AND DON’T Get paid if we do take off
I prefer to see Pro Bowl to play after Super Bowl just like old time did ,but dumbass ogre Goodell ruined pro bowl that prevented players from playoff teams to play. 1. 18 games with 2 byes 2. 16 teams playoffs with no byes 3. Also, the practice squad increase from 16 to 20 in case if they need to replace injury or suspend players and exempt from salary cap since practice squad has own salary rules. 4. Reduce practice significantly since 18 games might be too much for players to practice while players need to participate physical therapy during off days in order to prevent them to get injury. 5. Maybe you need to choose a different career if your body can’t take the punishment. It’s a physically demanding sport. Who’s changed the rules severely to favor and the WB(WHININGBACK) over the last 15 years. Kidding me. Making millions, poor you.
I remember that 20 years ago we had a 16 games season with no byes and the Superbowl was played before Feb 1st. 18 games + 2 byes????? See the horrible economy is good for something, if no one can afford to go away then they will be at home to watch football while eating ramen noodles. Bidenomics comes through again! 🤣
Should’ve been two with the 17 game schedule
Completely logical, the NFL has a massive inventory of games that most people never see. They could easily add another bye and make more revenue just by making more games accessible to more eye balls and therefore more ads.

Burrow showing who is smart. Maybe when Burrow is done playing he should be NFL commissioner.
I agree w Joe!
Two weeks
They also need to to go to a 55 man roster and a 20 man practice squad more games are gonna mean more injuries more and more players needed on teams!!
I think you mean 55 that are available to dress on game day because the 55 man roster already exist.
57 would be better
Fuck that, they need a farm system like NHL/MLB. Players need live reps, and as the league moves to an eventual 20-game schedule, they will need two QBs every season.

I say add a bye week PLUS 5 extra roster spots, If they were really serious about controlling the way injuries are plaguing the league
I agree with Joe Burrow. Add another bye week, let’s say each team gets 2 bye weeks and they add an extra game.
It's really simple...
6 weeks in - NFC goes on a bye
7 weeks in - AFC goes on a bye
12 weeks in - NFC goes on a bye
13 weeks in - AFC goes on a bye
Rotate every odd/even year on who gets the bye first.....
This solves everything in terms of a bye so everyone gets an even balance bye - make the roster 60 players total.
They’re gonna need to carry more players and 2 bye weeks would be necessary.
18 games? Fine. But the owners should be required to install grass fields for every single game. Carpet causes far too many injuries.
I’ve been arguing that injuries as a function of meaningful games is probably exponential, not linear. In other words just one more game adds more than just 1/18 more injuries; it’s probably worse than that. I’d like to see numbers though.

Mark my words, the nfl will become less popular by over saturating its product. Give it another ten years
Burrow was hurt on a Thursday night game, too.
Yes on 3 days rest
I like the idea of players only playing 16 games, in an 18 game schedule. So backups get 2 games. Strategic planning by teams. “What game do I sit Josh Allen…. Vs the Jets?”
Absolutely. What good is the NFLPA if its athletes cannot rest and recover?
Omg this is exactly what I’ve been saying for a while. 2 pre season games, 18 regular season games, and a very important 2 bye weeks. All makes perfect sense.
Did Florio make a hobbit reference?
CFL has an 18 game schedule with 2 bye weeks. Works well
The problem adding more games is the injuries. Maybe expand the roster to more players.
You can keep things the way they are, and just get rid of Amazon prime and Peacock, and we would be totally cool with it.
Then just keep the season where it's at. Stop changing everything EVERY year. Let's just let them play football and we enjoy while it's here.

Right exactly 🐯✌🏾
Great idea and smart
If they go to 18 games; what is next will be no playoff byes - They will need to expand the rosters to 60 or 65?
Make it 67 for each roster because they are 24 total positions just add 1 more string for each position for the roster
The 18th game should be another round for the wildcard teams with the worst records. You don't need 14 teams in the playoffs. That's almost half of the league.

It’s going to happen. I predict by 2026 it’s 18 games and potentially 16 playoff teams
Totally against 18 games. There should have been 2 byes with 17 games. They are also playing 2 Thursday games. They wouldn’t know they are just sitting at their desk.
Joey B needs as many bye weeks as possible. 😅

president day is only a holiday for some industries. The rest of us have to work. Please stop saying nobody has to go to work..
More spots on roster for sure
Burrow scared to death to get back on that field.
Just make it the same for all teams, this rest differential between teams makes for uneven biased games. They need to pull the plug for a couple of weeks and stop being so damn greedy. Stop with the greed. Gotta make it less brutal for the players and keep the quality of play.
Add another bye and make and add another game to the season
18 games means one less preseason games. so.
2 bye weeks
2 more roster players
25 players on practice squad for week one.
22 players on practice squad for week two.
18 players on practice squad for week three and rest of the season. (currently 16 players)
Hey Tyler Boyd is GONE to the Titans, and Joe is Practicing extra with the TE, Remember. I can see the NFL having KC vs Cin Game 1 of the Season.
2 preseason games and 18 games. Start camps at the start of may after the draft to get ready for the season sooner
Let's add 2 new teams
18 games is an awful lot for NFL Players bodies to take...just saying.
It’s starting to get tricky. If you have an 18-game schedule with two byes that’s 20 weeks, or about five months. It’s a little shorter than that for a couple reasons, one being the classic off-by-one mistake. (Two game weeks is really only one week to start your induction proof). we should not push them to far for our entertainment.
did they actually move it to 18 games or is this speculation
What a miserably incorrect title. It should read "Bengals' Joe Burrow pushes for two bye weeks IF 18-game schedule."
He didn't say shut down the sport for a week. He suggested it to be the pro bowl week. However, that would seem to interfere with the purpose of having an off week.
An 18 game season, one bye week, but no player can be active for more than 16 games during the season.
Need to have a 2nd bye like 3-4 weeks before playoffs imo
Owners want more revenue to pay these half billion $ contracts... but then even more players will be holding their hands out if more $ is generated.. salaries go even higher.... so it's a catch 22... and 2 bye weeks did suck in '93 but not as bad as '99 when their was an odd number of teams (31) when the expansion Brownies showed up ...meaning EVERY WEEK someone had a bye... Bengals had theirs in week F'n 1 and then played 16 games straight without a week off.... so yeah, I'll endure an extra bye if needed.
I am
Very close to tuning out and not following the nfl anymore. I can follow baseball and basketball and he just fine.
i say get rid of thursday games
every year they soften up the game and then want to add more games. Go back to 16 games. Id even be happy with 14 if they let them actually play defense like they used to. But they just want to use it as a cash machine while they trample on our sports.
NFL doesn’t give a d*mn about player safety lol. Only revenue.
WOW nobody has to go to work President Day ??? More people have to work than get that day off. Us clock punching hourly workers call that a BS Holiday cause WE DON’T Get off AND DON’T Get paid if we do take off
maybe complete a season before chatting about other games
Burrow always gets hurt maybe a 4 week bye
Bro doesn't make it past week 12, so it wouldn't affect him
I prefer to see Pro Bowl to play after Super Bowl just like old time did ,but dumbass ogre Goodell ruined pro bowl that prevented players from playoff teams to play.
1. 18 games with 2 byes
2. 16 teams playoffs with no byes
3. Increase rosters from 53 to between 60 and 65 while allow 3rd qb to suit up for game.
5. NFL need to discipline referee crews because they made too many mistakes while I believe that gambling may be factor reason why many games often got fixed by referees.
6. Don't allow players to return to game after they get concussions while I prefer NFL to hire doctors rather than teams because teams or players often forced to play because of win mode or what not.
Maybe you need to choose a different career if your body can’t take the punishment. It’s a physically demanding sport. Who’s changed the rules severely to favor and the WB(WHININGBACK) over the last 15 years. Kidding me. Making millions, poor you.
Where are the good games?? Idk where are the good players?? Oh yeah They're injured
I remember that 20 years ago we had a 16 games season with no byes and the Superbowl was played before Feb 1st. 18 games + 2 byes????? Why stop there? let's just go straight to a 20 game season + 3 byes and play the Superbowl on April 14th and then have the combine on April 21st and the draft on April 28th and then mini camp May 5th and then Preseason begin Aug 1st.....hardly ANY off season.
If he thinks this is gonna save him from season ending injuries he’s wrong. Dude is made of saltine crackers.
Because he can't make the regular schedule 🙃
Never a problem with my Chiefs workout more maybe
Lil baby burrito wouldn’t last in the afc north in the early2000s 😂😂
Joe is averaging 13 games per season lol so why is he talking about a longer season 💀
Bye-bye 17 game season, hello 18 games
In real football ⚽️, teams will play over 50 games in 30 weeks a season if they’re successful. With 52 weeks of the year I can’t agree with Burrow.
See the horrible economy is good for something, if no one can afford to go away then they will be at home to watch football while eating ramen noodles. Bidenomics comes through again! 🤣
