    My husband and I are travelling to Ireland in the fall and Vietnam next spring. I have FINALLY convinced him that we are going carry-on only. I told him that I was doing it, and that I wasn’t waiting at luggage carousels AT ALL - I’m so glad that he’s finally onboard

      Hi, Wendy. We are so glad that we went carry-on only. We will be in Vietnam sometime next spring as well! We aren't sure exactly when yet but southeast Asia starting in Jan 2023. Can't wait! Safe travels.

      Irena, we will be back home in November and December. The rainy cold season where we are from, unfortunately. It will be nice to see family and friends over the holidays, however!

    Great video ! Few little tips that I always use. Always photo your cases before you check them in - so much easier to describe to lost luggage. Always steal hotel shower caps - they are great to wrap around dirty shoes for packing and lastly …. You can change the language on European Digital TVs - that way if you are bored there is always a CSI, Friends or Property Brothers to watch !

    Hi B&C. Thanks for the tips. I fully agree with you on the idea of carry on (no checked in large bag). In our last 3 trips of 3 week duration in Europe we resorted to hand carried only. 2 duffel bags one each for me and my wife and a backpack for self and wife's small purse.
    Duffels are by themselves light and allows more stuff to pack meeting the tight carry on rules of local airlines. It was a bit of a hassle having to carry but saved the hassle of checked in bags, the time and the handling between places.
    On the US phone connectivity side, all of our family contacts have Whatsapp, and used them widely to stay in touch including the Air BnB hosts.
    We started carrying the Magic Jack adapter with us since the last trip. The device costs $49.99, and comes with 1 year free service. It is half the size of a PC mouse. They give you a US phone number. It comes with a USB on one side and a phone jack on the other end. You plug the USB side to any laptop, and you have your same ph # wherever in the world you are as long as your laptop is connected to a WIFI, or a Local LAN. It was very useful to call the bank / credit card company/ Dr. office etc. The renewal rate after 1 years is about $30/year. we love it and the connectivity it offers. While back in the US it is our land line and it works with cordless sets.
    Finally the Foursquare tip is really great and thanks for that and the sherpa site too. Best regards.

      Hi CM!! We are absolutely going to look into the Magic Jack adapter! That sounds like a great solution. Thank you!! And, as always, thank you for watching!

    Great tips!, I'm writing them down the "old" people way, with Pen and paper. Lol
    I'm curious how do you manage the gaps between air bnb stays? You are moving every month but is the next apartment always available the very next day? Is it stressful to make all the dates fit together seamlessly?

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing I have done for years is to start reading the local paper online for the place that we will be traveling a few weeks before we leave. This helps me kind of get a feel for the place and alerts me to any issues we might encounter like strikes or demonstrations. I also get good up to date entertainment and food advice this way.

    Airalo for data. They have country sim/area sim and global sim. When I’m in Asia I get the area sim that covers Thailand/Vietnam/Goa/Japan to name a few. Dent is another company for ESim, their plan is more expensive but they have a resale process where you can resell unused data to the next travelers.

Convincing Sunny might not be so easy though. 😅 I better start working on that. Great pointers this episode, but unless my eyes are deceiving me, Carrie's beer looks about 4 ounces shy of a pint. I have been traveling for years. But I have TOTALLY realized that traveling with a carry on is so worth it. I'm traveling to Europe for 10 days, but I'll probably take enough clothes for 5 days only. When they get dirty, I'll just have the hotel laundry service wash them. Although that service isn't so cheap it'll still be cheaper than having to pay for that luggage weight at the airport.

    • @BrianandCarrie

    Google voice has been a life saver for me. That said I did have it confirm that my linked number was still valid. Be sure to pick a linked number that's not going anywhere. T-mobile in my case has threatend to turn us off since we've been gone so long. We turned of the data and just use our numbers for text messages which so far has worked. We are on our first extended trip abroad to see how everything works out. We've been gone about 8 months so far with just over 2 left to go. Larned a lot on this trip. I've needed my VPN on several occasions. Like you going to downsize. I thought I was light bringing a US sized carry-on. I think they're 24". I'm going to downsize to a 22" and bring one less pair of pants. Thanks for the great videos.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do use Google Voice for texting but we had to set it up before we discontinued our service in the US. We also use a VPN and need it all the time. Just wish there was an easier way that didn't cost a lot of money. Thanks for watching and safe travels.

    What me and my husband do is check the water situation, can you drink from the tap or not. Usually in Europe (we're from Finland) it's fine, but we have some exceptions so gotta look out for that. Also what we do we carry those foldable grocery bags, because those plastic bags are pretty thin and in some places they will charge you for those.
    We have salt and pepper with us and some other spices so you don't have to buy those every time.
    We like to look before hand how does buses and train work, for example in Italy it has it's own way to do things (don't know if it changed since we were there last on 2018) so you never know if it works the same way as somewhere else, cause it might surprise you.
    Also, rather than eating lactic acid bacteria pills, what we do we eat that countries milk products from day one, usually yoghurt and this way you're good to go :).
    We live in Europe and have seen quite much of it but what we really want to see, is the US. Our dream is to visit every state, we are almost in the half way. Love what you're doing, keep up, gonna see Montenegro this summer and watched your video from it, can't wait! Oh, and you should try and visit Finland!

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great points! We do carry a grocery sack and take whatever spices we can with us from each Airbnb we stay at. The water in Albania and Santorini we had to buy but it was really inexpensive so didn't turn out to be a bad deal, besides carrying it home from the grocery store. We really enjoyed Montenegro. The bus system is better than in Albania but there is, as you already know, no train system.
      We are from Bellingham WA. 90 miles north of Seattle. You would love that part of the world! The San Juan islands would probably remind you of home. Someday we will get to Finland!! Thank you for watching and safe travels!!
      Cheers!!!🍻

      @@BrianandCarrie The only bad thing about water is carrying it, much rather carry wine or beer :D. We haven't yet been in the Washington state,but it's on our list, gonna put San Juan islands on the list as well, thanks for the tip.
      If coming in Finland, don't just do Helsinki and Lappland like everyone else, pop in the middle as well. We are from Jyväskylä, you would have a tour guide :). Our summers are beautiful, but somehow people like the snow.

    Thanks C&B for the great tips. Some observations: (1) Sherpa. I’m able to access Sherpa info via the American Airlines web site (select ‘Travel Updates’ followed by ‘Travel and Health Destinations by Restrictions’) - otherwise appears you have to sign up directly with Sherpa? 🛃 (2) Foursquare. Wasn’t aware of this hack so 👍🏻👍🏻. Guess one should jot down the password prior to getting to the retail establishment (assuming you don’t have cell service) otherwise can’t log in anyway. 🤔 (3) Phone/Text Service. I’ve used TextFree app for years since it’s free, only family has my “phone number,” and given I choose to not have a cell phone plan-only wifi. Sounds a lot like Google Fi. I’ve only tested TextFree in the US (phone and text messaging both work). Will test on our next trip abroad to confirm TextFree works as an alternative to an “international plan” offered by AT&T. 💸👎🏻💸 Hope this tip helps. Cheers. 🎉

      Lucchese!! Thank you for pointing out the Sherpa sign-up!!! We had the wrong link in the description. You do not have to sign in to use it. It's fixed now!! And yes, screenshot or jot down the wifi passwords prior to leaving your accommodations, and you are good to go. We will research TextFree but we think you have to be in the US to set it up before you travel. Thanks for the pointers and continued support!!
