    My entire career has been in maintenance of hotel / housing systems. where can I find the information on the maintenance needs of these farms. cost or parts when failures occur. redundancy so entire crops are not lost ? this can be a doable manageable retirement income base with lots of real human interaction in a time when it could be less.

    One acre of land is 43,560 square feet. He says he's producing the equivalent of one acre per year... in less than 400 square feet. Bullshit.

    • @TheFarmacy
      @TheFarmacy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thing you might consider is that you can grow in a container year round. Growing in soil only allows for seasonal growing, and that can make a huge difference in production.

    false numbers he cannot equal an acre a year for growing pounds per acre for per pound total per harvest at best his sq ft per year with a 5 week turn around as lettuce lets crunch some numbers lets base it on a full 40 foot row ( his is trailer he stated is 40 foot long . total so my numbers are higher then he will yield versus the real shorter length he has ) he said 9 lettuce per rack lets assume they are 4 inches wide so 3 racks per foot for 40 foot long rows and he mentions 4 rows ( quadrants ), that gives 1080 plant per row , 4320 plants total at 4 oz each ( the average large head weight of loose leaf lettuce ) and 10 harvest a years ( every 5 weeks ) for an annual yield of 5.4 tons, even if we allow an extreme high weight at 6 oz per head on average that is still only 8.1 tons a year. A far cry less then a real acre of lettuce actual yields vary depend on lettuce variety and range from 13 to 17 tons and in some fields with recent changes in technology they are reaching 21 tons per harvest now. His opening statement of equal to an acre is misleading deception he needs 10 rows at 40 feet long and 3 racks per foot to barely come into the lowest harvest weight per acre and produce slight more then the 13 tons a year and there are not 10 rows and no room to attach that many.
    i grow hydroponics an have tested various types of grow systems - lights - nutrient solution on real mass output weight of lettuce and herbs most of these container grow systems mislead and deceive investors as in real output and recovery cost and can run as high and can run on top end costs from 50,000 to 75,000 per container so not counting electricity water nutrients seeds materials or even your salary if it is $50,000 for a full ready to grow system that's many years you work for free to pay for container set up IF you can sell your lettuce at a good price per lb to a retailer. Great in concept yes you can grow in them, but dont go in dreaming to get rich you wont, can you make a decent salary ..... maybe if you can pick one up super cheap and grow year round and dont need to heat it in winter or cool it in summer and have a direct market to sell to cutting out the retailer

      Thank you. We are operating a Grocwer unit (similar but not vertical)and I made the calculations regarding water usage compared to outside conditions and depending on what your climate is like, these units will actually use more water given they grow only in water, and given units must be constantly filled and cleaned with way more than 2 gallons. Also the yields can shrink due to presence of pathogens. He said pythium does not get into-these?? Highly doubtful. fuzarian definitely gets in.

      Actually i grow horizontal NFT small scale hydroponics year round for my own use with various greens - herbs - tomato - peppers - eggplant and more. Water usage is normal as per growth, there will be a small amount evaporation from tank at slot where nutrient runs back in, plants respire and will give off moisture to the air. So you will loose some but its equal to growth for normal losses. Yes any system regardless of type will need to be cleaned at some point i run a mechanical screen to filter where the water runs back into tank to remove and loose pieces of root that may come down. The nutrient is not exposed to light except one tiny area where the liquid leave the end of the grow channel and runs back into tank so less chance of algae which means less cleaning issues and better plant growth anyways , i run 28 gallon nutrient holding tank i use npk test same as those used on aquarium along with EC and ph meters to test so add the nutrients as need so my actual complete tear down and clean is minimal and if i do have to clean i swap rank out with a spare, use the nutrient to water indoor plants or use around flower outdoors total clean up of tanks water use minimal because no algae let it dry and a brush to remove any mineral salts on surface from evaporation and there is little on no sediment in tank because of the screen and filter at the return slot keeps and tray dust debris and any insects out of the tank. His clean up due to system is going to be harder and much higher then we would have and unless he has a pre-filter going back into tank tiny bits of root can and will break off and organics get in break down and settle to bottom of tank making them harder to clean and maintain
      Correct the blight ( fuzarian ) can hit anywhere. Because his unit doesn't have the roots in direct standing stagnant water and they have wet/dry cycles that get ample oxygen to the roots the outbreak of pythium ( root rot ) will be very low or if any, but the organism is almost always present in standing water. But regardless we both agree his numbers are misleading and on borderline of fraudulent number to entice sales for profit.

      Not to mention, this guys backs are extremely wrong. And there is not a single plant on this earth that does not preferred a wall spectrum light. He could massively increase his harvest if he was using some quality full spectrum LEDs instead of those goofy looking hanging Diodes

    • @footballa1121
      @footballa1121 ปีที่แล้ว

      The waste of square footage in that container also makes my brain hurt. If you were to go through all that trouble for a totally controlled system of that size, why would you not go with aeroponics? If he was using high-quality full spectrum LEDs, and an aeroponic system, he would be making more food than he could possibly ever be able to get rid of.
