They are a great size... the can talk (albiet in a parrot voice)... they are less expensive than a big Macaw and all around great birds. Here is a link to my video, "What is a Hahn's Macaw like?"

My Hahn's Macaw, Lucy has no interest in toys either. She also bites the back of my shirts like yours does. One interesting thing about Lucy is that she never poops on me. Never. She will fly to her perch or her cage and poop there and then fly back to me. She will also poop in the toilet if I hold her above it. She LOVES to play in boxes or in grocery bags, and when we watch TV she likes to crawl up my shirt and nap there. Hahns are known to be biters, but the bites aren't really aggressive it's just in their personality to bite.

Now that you mention it, I don’t think Emerald has ever pooped on me either. She does text at noon with her Pink, I believe, claiming me as her own. No fun, but not deliberately painful. She just wants to be loved!

Can you make a video comparing the smaller macaws to the larger ones? I noticed you happen to keep both and I just wanted to hear your take on the pros and cons on both.
Just what a parront to these birds should know and have in their mind as far as just what the various care guides won't say for both minis and the big ones. Obviously one is gonna need more than the other, space, food, money, time, etc, but if someone is actually willing to take that leap, is there anything else that I'm missing? I was maybe thinking of getting a larger sized mini macaw like a severe macaw or maybe something slightly larger or smaller? Really just What're your thoughts on mini macaws vs regular sized ones as *LIFELONG COMPANIONS* not pets. I'm gonna define the difference as an animal that you have for a decade, maybe a decade and a half, and then it dies. A life companion, to me, is an *EMOTIONAL BOND* like one would share with almost a spouse. Just clarifying there

I have / had an African grey that I had to leave with my good friend, who has four other greys and several other parrots, while I moved and relocated. Well, my grey bonded with her. She loves her new home with other greys and 10 other birds. So it’s an open adoption between us but I sort of lost her. Sometimes in life you got to do what’s hard for the benefit of those you love, and I love my grey so much that I want to give her the fullness of joy she deserves. I feel like Im An empty nester now. I finally found a Hanes macaw ( 8 month old) after almost a year and I put down half And will pick her/ him up in June! I’ll have to see what its personality is like.. but I kinda like the name Hermie if it’s a boy. I’ll do a DNA test to determine the birds sex. My African greys name is Cordelia. I think Hahnes macaw size is perfect. I want a parrot who can ride on my shoulder all day and who wants to cuddle. Cordelia the grey wasn’t cuddly. She is smart and talks but mostly she just wanted to watch. She is very bossy too. She used to make me cry sometimes when I hoped to interact with her she would get in a mood and bite me out of nowhere. Now that she’s in a home with four other greys and lots of action she hasn’t bitten my friend at all.

Hi Karmen- yeah, doing what's best for the bird isn't always easy. I understand, parrots like being with other parrots and it's important for them to be with their own species too. AGs aren't cuddly, a Hahn's will be. If you aren't familiar, the Hahn's will be louder, want to be IN what you are doing, and will be far more demanding of your attention. I love my Hahn's, but some days she's hard on us. She was not socialized to get a long with other parrots - and you have seen how imporant that is - so she's at a disadvantage. She only wants human attention. Consider getting 2 Hahn's or 1 and another similar sized-parrot, I heard of a Hahn's and GCC being great friends. It will help your Hahn's not be unhappy, scream for attention and have a friend.
LMK how it goes. I can identify with your experience with Cordelia - I love my AGs, but they like to watch. No cuddles! But they are also easy to live with because they aren't demanding or loud :)

Yes, parrots don't like strangers. Hopefully you don't have people over too often - if it is people that visit regularly he should get used to them.
Work on training - it creates a common language between the two of you and can help you guide his behavior so that you get along better. LMK how it goes.

I got one that won't shut the f#$& up with the screaming. I mean like if I'm on my computer and not looking at it or just once every 15 minute it screams loud as hell. It's a 5 year old re-homed bird I adopted because I'm not paying over $4,000 for a baby. That's what they are going for now. What do you recommend? is there a way to get the Bird to shut up. I don't mind the noises it makes or the talking but that loud ear piercing screaming is just not tolerable and it scares the crap out of me. It's like a jump scare. If there's anything you can recommend let me know.
