Toyota has the most appealing (to me) powertrain, Honda the most practical and thoughtfully designed interior, and Kia the coolest tech. Would be great if one van could combine all that!
To me there is only one choice if I was forced to purchase a new minivan today. The Odyssey because it's reliable, powerful, and you can take the middle row seats out for 8 feet of cargo space. The Sienna middle row seats don't come out and you are left with only 6 feet of cargo space. Yes, the Sienna Hybrid gets great gas mileage, but it probably also struggles with a load of passengers. Pacifica and Carnival are both out of the equation dues to reading too many horror stories about them. If every van was equal reliability-wise, I would probably get a Pacifica, because of the stow and go.
I’m currently in the market for a minivan and there’s about 10k difference between the Honda and the Toyota. Most Honda dealers are offering 8-10 percent discount while ALL the Toyota dealers have dealer markups anywhere from 3-5k over MSRP. I’ve never owned a Honda before but the Odyssey most likely will be my next purchase

Despite the mileage, it really is hard to view the Sienna as a value proposition with the markups. You'll never make up the cost difference with the Odessey despite much better MPG. The Odessey also has a more versatile interior with the removable middle row for max cargo space and 8 seats versus 7 in higher trims. I'm looking forward to Kia (and hopefully Honda) having a hybrid option. Maybe that will bring down the markups on the Sienna.
Honda needs to come out with hybrid version and AWD of the Odyssey.

Honda did a great job of creating the most flexible interior in the class. This is in bad need of an update though and I hope the next version is out soon.
It would be crazy if another model year goes by without a new Odyssey (with a hybrid).
you mentioned wireless carplay and wireless apple auto, my Black Edition (Elite) does not have that. I believe your mistaken. great review though.

Like it but not sold on button shifters.
It took me weeks to get used to. The best benefit of the button shifter is space saving for more storage
I like them. They save space when you aren't shifting, which is most of the time, and they are easy to commit to muscle memory.
I don't care for them either, but it wouldn't be a deciding factor for me. Rotary shifters are even more annoying!

I was just asked for a 6k markup on a sienna… I’m done with Toyota.
That’s the individual dealer you went to. Go to other dealers. Not all do insane markups.

it's a great car but extremely important 8-critical deal-breakers things are missing on odyssey, Honda absolutely must correct those things for next 6-th gen odyssey. those are. 1. awd option. 2. cam-360-view. 3. get rid-off this silly timing belt and put chain instead. 4. needs three pano-roofs. first row openable pano-roof as well second row openable pano-roof and 3rd row non-openable pano-roof. 5. some other features slow traffic follow cruise control and etc. 6. hybrid ultra strong battery with picnic devices charging features. 7. option of air-compressor for picnic. 8. additional led strong front lights. (females are using vans a lot & the females have a bad vision at night) some other features would be great such as as more wider and longer interior,. longer legs room etc. like cross-country version higher clearance with awd and etc.
