  • Tourism is a complex and diversified ecosystem composed of several economic sectors. In recent years, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU tourism ecosystem suffered heavy losses. The recovery of the sector has been swift, although it continues to face the effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, inflation, and extreme weather conditions.
The transition pathway for tourism was developed through an 8-month-long co-creation process in 2021 and published in February 2022 with the intention to contribute to a more strategic, competitive, and resilient development of EU tourism. The pathway takes into account changes in tourism demand, the need to respect natural resources, and the innovative potential of digital developments, while safeguarding the long-term well-being of local communities as key actors for ensuring attractive tourism destinations and sustainable experiences. Together with the European Agenda for Tourism 2030, the transition pathway is the strategic compass for the European tourism policy.
The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, organises the EU Clusters Talk “Future-Ready Tourism: The Transition Pathway in Practice” on 12 June, 8:30 - 9:45 CET, to take stock of the implementation of the transition pathway in the sector, discuss action lines for tourism stakeholders, and talk about the role of clusters for the transition.
