AROUND the WORLD in RECORD TIME? Lael Wilcox joins Just Ride S2E6

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 22 เม.ย. 2024
- Lael Wilcox is an ultra-endurance cycling legend, but at 20, she barely rode a bike. She took up cycling as a more efficient way to commute to her new job 6 km from home, and it soon became her passion.
Fast-forward to age 36, and she's won nearly everything, including the 6,800 km Trans Am race, holding the women's course record for the Tour Divide (4,418 km), and having the fastest known time for the Arizona Trail. Now, she's gearing up to break the women's world record for cycling around the globe in just 110 days, starting from Chicago on May 26th.
Lael joined Rob and Eliot to discuss her journey, what it takes to set world records, and her next big adventure. We were thrilled to have her on Just Ride and can't wait to follow her progress.

I could listen to her for hours and hours. She's a bright ray of sunshine and positive energy. And a badass bike racer.
Hi Lael. GrumGoesGlobal from Hanmer Springs NZ (Steve Halligan has lived here 15years up until early this year). Loved this interview. I've just turned 70. Ten years ago i cycled a lap of the globe, 50,000km in 863 days. I'm excited to follow your lap. My wife and I are riding the GDMBR this year, starting mid July. We're aiming at 75 days not 15. If your global ride takes you near Hanmer Springs you're welcome to stay at our house, or just drop in for a shower or feed. Keep on inspiring.
Grum is a great WS host and has a very comfortable couch.
The around the world cycling record isn’t something we often get to talk about here, likely because tackling a ride of that magnitude is such a monstrous feat that few people think to attempt it. Lael what a unique and interesting adventure. Good luck! Ride on.
We're stoked to be along for the ride.
this is the most amazing interview ever. Lael never ceases to amaze. Best of luck around the world!
Ĺael my property, grdmr. Water I give all rider's.

She's among the coolest people in the industry. Always super positive and genuinely excited about all these gnarly rides. She's a motivator for sure.
Contagious positivity!
Lael is just built different. I laughed out loud multiple times. What a sweet person and an absolutel legend of cycling.
This interview was fun to listen to. Lael's joy is contagious. I only found out that she is riding around the world last night! The story of her winning the Trans-Am was great! Or hearing "the most beautiful music coming from the bicycle." lol
I wonder if it's her great attitude that has her remembering things fondly, or the things that give her a great attitude. I wish I had that charisma!
She's so pleasant to listen to. I wish her good luck and safe travels
Outstanding.
I love this person! Lael has to be the most interesting person I have ever listened to. What an awesome young woman!
Absolutely a treat always listening to Lael's cycling stories and adventures!! Her positive energy about everything is wonderful

She is one of my favorite people on earth to listen to!
Such a wonderful person! Met about 12 pm on the gdmbr last summer, my home living, I'm dot watcher, water free, trail angel for. Absolutely the most great lady! Thanks for the couple pictures with together!
14:08 thats just the wildest thing to do before a ultra endurance race, its just..nuts :) i cant beliveit :D its such an effort before the actual race... but for Lael this is not just a pre race effort, it is her way of living life... amazingly impressive!
Incredibly entertaining, what a BOSS she is with her indomitable spirit. Very inspiring, it revived my old coast-to-coast ride dream.
Great knowing more about her. Great interview. Leah rocks 🤟
Lael sorry
I was mesmerized listening to this she is awesome
What a great outlook on life Lael has and she sure making the most of her time ⭐️🤟👏🫡💪
A local facebook riding page alerted me to Laels route. I load up my bike so i can park at a trailhead so i could ride with her when she rode through my city. I misjudged how fast she was going, and missed her by a half hour. I was bummed out to say the least. However, her route was going to take her right by my childhood house growing up, so i said, 2 hour drive back to visit and catch her on the way to Wellsburg. I didnt leave with enough time, and she was already near the Panhandle trail, so i couldnt catch her for a second time either! This broke my heart not being able to ride with her during this tour. Great interview guys, she seems like a wonderful person and i will continue to track her journey to the end. The mileage and pace she rides at is incredible. Wishing you all the best Lael, you have a fan for life. Be safe out there and take care.
Great interview! Lael is a wonderful human. Inspirational and a role model.
So inspiring! Great interview. I wana go bikepacking soon!
This lady is mentally made of steel ! Just incredible !
“Racing gravel in one day for 200 miles? I do that on a regular day!” This lady is a living legend!
Ooooh Lael’s coming to Oz, that’s super cool, I’ll be keeping an eye out for the route!
She's one of the coolest people on the planet. Please come and cycle in and around the UK, we haveLEJOG amd LEL which is pretty much named after her. We'd all love to come along for the ride.
The bike industry should be shoveling money to this woman as an ambassador to the sport. What a legend.
I'm waitin for that book!
The most humble lady ever!
Wow 😮
She is great!

💪🚴💪🤗🔥👍👍
I think she would be an awesome medical doctor, moreso a small community family practice doctor.
Her ability to embrace misery and function on minimal sleep could give Navy Seals a run for their money. I'll never forget getting lapped by her while I was having a mini-meltdown and she yells "you got this!". Which just made me even more mad 😂
Good luck to Lael. She's got this challenge under control. I wish the sound levels would be adjusted for the guy with the British accent. I understand how anyone would be amazed but all the yelling into the mic is just distracting from Lael's dialogue. Someone needs to add a compressor to his line.
How do you not know who Rob Warner is?
What ever she’s on I want some! She’s the G.O.A.T of adventure cycling! 🐐🚵♀️
