A small sample of overhead casts in Cape Cod while chasing striped bass. I was using a 12' Spey rod with a shooting head style, Airflo 40+ clear intermediate integrated line.

Great example of the proper way to overhead cast with a Spey Rod. I see so many people incorrectly practicing casting two-handed fly rods like they're using single handed rods. Making a lot of false cast with a heavy fly, and a sinking tip is a recipe for disaster....Your example of one roll cast and one single haul is the only way to cast in the surf.....Thanks for demonstrating this !!!!!

What rod and line are you using?

This video was shot back when I was with Scott Mackenzie rods. It's his 12' 7/8 shooting head model. The line was a 425 grain Airflo Two-Hand Beach line in a 9/10 (no longer made). The discrepancy between the rod and line ratings is because the line is an overhead rating while the rod has a Spey line rating. If the rod was rated using overhead line ratings, it would be also be a 9/10.
