Another great video, Glen. I love the line: If you hold the club too hard, you're stuffed. How Aussie! Definitely option 3 for its simplicity. With this technique, are you still aiming to strike the ball before the turf? With the one that landed closest with option 3, you didn't take a divot, so I couldn't tell! 😂
Thank you Gary! Definitely no divot, because of the bounce. The goal is to hit the grass under the ball, so ultimately, I probably touched the grass a cm or so before the ball. Not ball first. Hope this helps. Please let us know how you go with this shot. Cheers Glen
Very interesting Glen! Your first miss with the Lob is about how I play it! I had a shot yesterday similar to your 2nd example off the dirt. Too bad I didn't view this video before. My shot didn't get the height, but I was able to get it on the green! I also had a shot similar to your 3rd example, but I pulled the shot away from the flag. This was probably because of my set up and ball placement being wrong and not keeping the club out in front of me! Always well done Glen! Learning from your contributions!
Great video, Glen. My father messed around with the “easy lob shot” and told me he wanted to land the ball like a “butterfly with sore feet”. He had about a 90% success rate and I’ve always copied his lob shot swing. Yours is just the same. Many thanks.
Yes Trent, the XV is firmer than many tour balls but still softer than a mid range ball. I love it because it’s designed for lower spin with the driver but high spin with the wedges. Thank you for watching and your support. 🙏🙏
tbf, that is not Dan’s go to flop shot method. That is only for bad lies. For regular flop shots he has release number three, which is similar to your version at the end.
Thank you for your comments @commane21. Yes I agree, it’s chiefly a method for bare lies and hardpan. I will clarify though, Dan’s release 3 is a longer swing with loads of wrist action. This is more similar to Phil’s Flop Shot. Cheers
thanks for the video Glenn, like your laconic style. this scenario does put the fear into me and invariably my next shot is trying to get out of the bunker, will give methods 2 and 3 a go. Think my 58W (highest loft) has 8 degrees of bounce, should I open face up more?
Good comparison; I like your option; I wonder whether the parachute style shot would be useful also where you let the club head weight fall rather than pull so it lands softly.
Would you ever recommend chipping or putting sideways-ish? Getting down in 4 maximum (possibly 3) would be a good outcome, otherwise any number is possible. For any of these lob options to work, the clubhead height and strike has to be absolutely perfect with no margin for error. The last time I tried, I chunked it into the bunker, then caught the next one thin, over the green, OB, and lost ball.
Thank you for your comments John. Yes, of course, depending upon the quality of the lie. Another ‘safe’ option is to chip the ball past the flag. I’d rather putt from 30 feet than chip. Ultimately, these are shots which require some practice before attempting them in competition.
Thank you for your question @channelsis1569. Although there are some similarities, Dan’s release 3 involves a longer swing with loads of wrist action. Dan allows the clubface to exit more around the body and the clubface to close after impact. This shot is more like a toned down Mickelson Flop shot. Nothing wrong with that, just different. I hope this clarifies things for you. Cheers Glen

Thank you for your comments John. We definitely come across these shots often on the course. You’ll get it!

Thanks David. Sounds like he was a fine golfer, 90% success with these challenging shots is awesome!
Hi Glen, Great demonstration of these flop shots. Excellent videos.
Thank you for your kind feedback and support Phillip. 🙏
I love the Wilson Staff Model ball, Been using it for 12 months and its helped me straighten my drives and gain distance.
Thanks Peter. How is the Wilson Staff ball for chipping and putting? Does it land softly with spin?
@@AussieGolfPros Yes it does.
Perfect!
Thank you for another excellent video. Shot 3 for me.
Average golfers should make the shot as easy as possible.
Really appreciate your comments and support Alan. Thank you.
Ha love this channel so much but the srixon xv is a rock one of the hardest tour balls out there. Spins well though still.
Yes Trent, the XV is firmer than many tour balls but still softer than a mid range ball. I love it because it’s designed for lower spin with the driver but high spin with the wedges.

Much appreciated Mike. Yes, you can still open the face a little - this will add to that 8° bounce too.
We look forward to hearing how you get on.

Thank you Steve. Soft hands, absolutely! Just need enough speed to land on the green. 😉
I am more aggressive in these situations
I use number one and three and a release three
All 3 techniques have merit and if they’re working for you, that’s super! Thank you for sharing Wayne. 🙏

Ian Poulter
56 degrees and 14 degrees bounce
He’s a magician around the greens! Love bounce!
The third one looks like Dan Grieve’s release 3? What the difference Glen?
