Carson was known for not tolerating anything he deemed not suitable for all ages even in his late night time slot, and Johnny always got what he wanted. Even though NBC always was the home for Bob Hope, Carson didn't like having Hope on the show because the Tonight Show was Bob Hope's place to let his belt loose and be a little more off color. Carson was never in control and you don't do that to Johnny. That was one guest he had to tolerate. Otherwise Carson, a born and bred Midwestern farm boy may have been the king of late night that nobody could take down but he was also a bit of a prude. He preferred guests who came out. Promoted their latest film, recording, or comic skit and spoke a bit about their life and success. Anything that crossed the line could get you banned. After Johnny retired, things like this changed. So did the monopoly on late night talk shows. Today every network has shows at 11:30PM, 12:30AM and some even later. It's true they just give a short bio on ONJ, but I assume she talked to Johnny and somehow caused embarrassment to him. It's sad that she passed before her time.😢
