    With Omega having so many Speedmaster models over the years, the new 321 provides an opportunity to own a watch which is less industrial in its manufacture and with a real link to the space program. I think also that the AD price is a bit too high, but not to an extreme. Excellent review.

    Omega hit this one out of the park. Everything is perfect from the dial to the bezel to the movement to the bracelet.
    I love what they did with the lugs. I’ve never been a fan of the lugs on traditional Speedmasters.
    Same with the modern bracelet. It’s just not a nice design. It looks like a poor man’s Oyster.
    This flatlink bracelet on the other hand is very attractive.

    Awesome video thank you, I wasn't sure after I saw the still photos on your website but this has redressed the balance and re-ignited my enthusiasm, now I cannot wait to get the e-mail or more hopefully the call. My AD has confirmed that I am on the list but sadly has confirmed that Omega has advised that the store won't receive their first watch until Jan 2021 at the earliest. So just have to be patient.

    The watch is out of this world. I credit you with helping to get the watch off the ground( so to speak ). I have a 1968 145.012 serial number 5497----- produced in Oct. 1968. My 19 year old will pass this watch down to his children and enjoy the 100 year celebration of the first moon landing in 2069. P.S. the watch is already his.

    It's a great watch. I don't understand why having one watchmaker assemble the whole thing is a big deal. Isn't this what happens typically when a watch is serviced? What makes the first assembly more work?

      I would assume they needed to import the drawings into CAD for the cnc machines to spit out. Likely they wanted to validate the historical technical drawings from Lemania to what was actually built by the watchmakers, those watchmakers are not alive anymore.

    Thank you for showing the real thing RJ. It's been a long wait since the January confirmation email from Omega. Btw, have you had a chance to test how accurate this caliber 321 is compared to say a standard 1861?

    • @FratelloMagazine
      @FratelloMagazine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, just picked it up and havent even had time to put it on the Witschi yet. I will do so and mention it in the review on Fratello soon. However, tbh I am not sure the clientele for this watch are that concerned with accuracy. The 3861 is perfect for those looking for great accuracy. My 3861 has been dead-on.

  • @watchnerds
    @watchnerds 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Would buy if it have the chronometer certification though, like the 861 they made in 90s albeit LE. Not a fan of the 3861 as it has the cam instead of the column wheel though.

    Nice looking watch apart from the lume. The price is ridiculous for an archaic movement. Omega can self-justify all they want about how they undertook extensive research and reconstruction with assembly in a dedicated workshop, etc, but the calibre was antiquated in 1968. 5-decades later and it's practically prehistoric.

    I would have loved to see some technical improvements (larger power reserve/chronometer certification) to the movement rather than a reproduction without spec bump, everyone knows the technical superiority of the cal. 4130. If Omega wishes to keep the 321 in limited hand-produced style, I'd expect hand finishing to the movement with a slightly higher price point, and a quick-adjust clasp on the bracelet.

    • @AnderParis
      @AnderParis ปีที่แล้ว

      Those pins are there to perfect the movement of the balance wheel, as you would do with a car wheel by adding some led peaces. The 321 is an old movement that need to be adjusted as such. Nothing to compare with modern movement. This is also the reason why the 321 cannot be mass produce but need to be hand assembled.

      I don't get it, why don't regular people make metal bracelets for Omega (and Rolex), make it as precise as the real thing, shouldn't be as hard as, say, making a movement, call it Omegon or Omegis and sell a bunch? I mean, single Rolex links go for $3-400, it's absurd. I also don't understand why all watchmakers don't make straps the way Vacheron does, no tools needed 2 seconds to swap kinda thing, it makes nothing but sense and can't be much more expensive than what they're using now either.

    Great watch, just WAY too expensive. Omega had an opportunity to create a truly high-demand watch with this one, and they blew it. They could've easily offered this watch at $7,500 to $8,500 USD, satisfied their customers, and made a killing with it, had they simply gone into normal production on it. Having a single watchmaker hand-build them is just gimmicky and stupid, and something Rolex would never do. If Omega wants to compete with and even beat Rolex, this sure isn't the way to do it.

    • @davidcrane7603
      @davidcrane7603 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nyrmala7383 The only game Rolex plays is limiting production of their sports watches, which are all standard-production watches with standard-production AUTOMATIC movements, and allowing flippers and investors to create a ridiculous grey market frenzy. I frankly don't like that (artificial scarcity and price gouging) either, but I CERTAINLY don't like Omega's game of having a single watchmaker hand-build a legacy manual-wind movement that was previously the standard-production movement, and then charge $14,100 for it. That's more (retail) than a Rolex Daytona with a 4130 (automatic) movement, which is significantly more advanced, and superior. The 321 frankly shouldn't be difficult to put BACK into standard production. If they could do it then, they can do it now--with much better manufacturing methods and materials.
