Epica is such an interesting band, they have put out 8 full length albums now with the release of 'Omega' and there is not a poor record in the bunch and even the EPs (The Solace System and Epica vs Attack on Titan songs) are fire. Nuclear Blast has done a great job making their music accessible here.
Epica was originally called Sahara Dust. The "Epica" band name actually comes from the Kamelot album of the same name. The members of Epica are great friends with the members of Kamelot. In fact, Simone Simons, the lead singer of Epica, is married to the keyboardist of Kamelot, Oliver Palotai. I recommend "The Skeleton Key" by them next. It has a really eerie sound and dark video.
I'm so happy that you guys discovered Epica, their music covers a wide spectrum from beautiful ballads, catchy melodic metal songs, to unique metal masterpieces that are not easy to catagorize, some songs heavier than others. Epica are simply amazing, here are just a few examples on youtube of the variety you can find in Epica's music: Beautiful ballads: Once Upon a Nightmare - Epica (Live with Lyrics) Epica - Tides Of Time (lyrics) EPICA - Rivers (OFFICIAL VISUALIZER) Catchy melodic metal: EPICA - Beyond The Matrix (OFFICIAL VIDEO) EPICA - Edge Of The Blade (OFFICIAL VIDEO) EPICA - The Skeleton Key (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) Epica - Unchain Utopia (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) Unique metal masterpieces: Epica - Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 - The Antediluvian Universe (+ lyrics) EPICA - Universal Death Squad (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO) EPICA - The Solace System (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) EPICA - In All Conscience (EPIC METAL FEST Aftermovie)
I was at this concert! This is the Last song they played! Amazing concert with beyond the black and powerwolf! I wish epica Will be released this show on dvd one day..... Great memories of this night!!!
I first saw Epica in a venue that doesn't exist anymore, they were opening for Kamelot (Roy Khan was their singer at the time). It was their Consign to Oblivion tour. 8-)
I absolutely love their album "The Divine Conspiracy" from 2007. I recommend giving it a listen if you get spare time. One of my top 25 favourite metal albums.
Another great Epica live is Design your Universe from Retrospect...also check out more from their new album..Code of Life, Skeleton Key and Kingdom of Heaven 3. They are so awesome live..they really love playing together, and it shows!
Take a look at songs from Epica's live show Retrospect. It has a full orchestra and choir on stage! Songs like Design Your Universe, Unleashed and The Divine Conspiracy are true masterpieces. That whole show lasted for 3 hours! You won't be dissapointed.
you want to hear Floor with Epica ? There Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show its absulut amazing with real orcester and choir ....have fun and stay save
They live up to their name :-) , even though it is actually a reference to an album of another band called Kamelot. The previous name of Epica was Sahara Dust and they recorded one demo under it, but then they changed their name to Epica when Kamelot´s album came out in 2003. And that thing you mentioned about the Beauty and the Beast is really accurate as that is what this parcticular combination of vocals was named. Epica is one of the few bands that still use it. And you have not seen anything yet from their anniversary concert called Retrospect with a live choir and an orchestra. For instance: Epica - Design Your Universe (Retrospect) There is another band called MaYaN, which is closely related to Epica, but it is more of a symphonic death metal band and, except for Coen - the keyboardist, all of the Epica´s members were at one point or another members of this band: MaYaN - Saints Don´t Die (official video)
Definitely catch them live - as you can tell, they put on a great show. They just released a new album, so there's a good chance they'll be touring the US, if the pandemic allows. I first saw them many years ago, in a dive bar attached to a strip club in New Hampshire, where they played to a crowd of about 30. They still rocked it!
Want some (little more) Simone Simons from Epica, then I hope you can find the time to react to this TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from *AYREON* , a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen (Ahr-Yun) Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_The Day That The World Breaks Down_* is a song that features all 11 (quite well known) main guest singers (you’ll be surprised) and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by which standards. Btw. This "creative" original clip is 13 min. long and I think you won’t regret it and you’re gonna be blown away !! Official (Arjen’s) clip: th-cam.com/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/w-d-xo.html
Yes!! Epica is amazing. If you want to see them on a one-time performance with a full orchestra and choir you should check out them at Retrospect celebrating their 10-year anniversary. I suggest "Chasing the Dragon". It is a beautiful piece of music and it mashes so well with the orchestra on stage. th-cam.com/video/Dx-FsHAQHp8/w-d-xo.html
love to see epica getting much deserved attention! btw when you mentioned Beauty and the Beast, that is exactly what the combination of high sweet soprano and brutal growl vocals is called! so that didn't sound weird at all, and in fact you hit the nail on the head :)
I have a request for you two. Worm Shepherd - Chasm Dweller it's essentially like devin to embers (well, it is exactly devin to embers, but with more than one person since that one was a solo project), but with much more melody and symphonic/blackened elements The band is mad talented, the vocalist is 20 and has probably the best range out of any deathcore vocalist i've heard and the drummer is 17 and can play with infant annihilator speeds and precision. They're insane, i'm sure you'll love them.
@@zarrachazrafel1792 yeah mental cruelty also put out a fucking banger of a song, that's definitely a very close second. unique leader has been killing it with all the blackened deathcore bands they're signing.

You guys are really cool 😎🤟 and true metal heads 🤟🤟. I love how you guys react to songs cuz you guys are always on point 👍 and very observant. I love EPICA and Simmons voice. She is amazing. The whole band like you said the vocals to the instruments are absolutely awesome 👌🤟🤟. My favorite band being Iron Maiden...but EPICA is right up my list of band's. Thank you so much for reacting to this song 👍🤟. Take care guys and stay safe 🙏🤟🤟
After the covid Pandemic just go to a Epica show and enjoy guys! Before the pandemic have seen them 15 times in 3years and never get enough of Epica! After every show the only thing i wanna do i buying tickets for another Epica Show 😁 they are really good live
Precisely, this type of growling+bright voice contrast is often called "Beauty and the beast". Btw, if you want to see this type of bands in a big show, I would advice to do it in Europe. Sadly, in USA they get bad gigs in small places cause they aren't as famous there. In Europe is where these guys go full orchestra and pyro
And Epica is a Dutch Metal band and so is Floor Jansen... Connection, yeah, some members of this band were members of Floors former band After Forever and Revamp. You've to see the young Floor. Just interesting...
The "Beauty and the Beast" style is actually a thing, although usually less so in Symphonic Metal like in this case, but it's very prevalent in Gothic Metal, with the prime example being Theatre of Tragedy (check out any of these: A Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal, Cassandra, Der Tanz der Schatten). For another (less serious) example try: Melodicka Bros - Blue Da Ba Dee
I know right! Incredible bands like Epica and Nightwish, who have been around for two decades or more, it's amazes me just how unknown they still are, especially outside of Europe, thankfully that seems to be changing now :)
@@watchtheskies Epica, Nightwisch and other bands are known in the whole world, but not in the US, because of the american music industry. Those who do not have a contract with the American music industry are rarely broadcast in North America. In South America these bands are famous. Therefore you do not know those bands. But Social Media Channel like you change this.

@Mat and Chels React Don't worry. The "beauty and the beast" is what many Epica fans actually say :) It's the duality that Epica use very often.
