How a photo can save your child’s vision

  • Retinoblastoma is a rare eye cancer that can effect young children. There is a strong genetic basis to it meaning it can run in families but it can be unrelated too. If you notice red eyes in a photo you’ve taken, have a close look to see if they both appear red. If you notice your child has a white glow in the centre of the pupil in one or both eyes make sure you make an urgent appointment with your GP.
    Other symptoms associated with retinoblastoma:
    a new squint
    swelling around the eye
    changes in child’s vision
    pain in the eye
    change in colour of the eye

    Also certain types of light can show the pupil appearing "spongy". That and a photo is how it got noticed in my eye as a kid.
