"two young boys started to dig the deepest hole they could at the beach. But as the hole grew too deep for two boys to handle they kept at it as more boys came to join in the digging."
I have this headcanon that in some fantasy universe out there, an Elf once told a Dwarf to piss off, saying something like “Go dig a hole, Shorty.” The Dwarf, offended, pretended to use a shovel as he replied in a sarcastic voice “Oh, sure…I’m a Dwarf and I’m deeging a hole. Deegy-deegy hole, I’m deeging a hole. Phooey!” The Dwarf went home, and he relayed the story to his kin. Eventually a mob of Dwarves chased the troublemaking knife-ear out of town, all while jokingly chanting about how they are Dwarves, and they’re digging a hole. From then onwards, the joke based on a Dwarven stereotype develops into a full-blown song; each generation in the clan adding their own proud lyrics to it and belting it out in times of triumph and hardship alike. Centuries pass, and it becomes a sort of anthem for all Dwarfkind across the land, equally at home as a lullaby to newborn beardlings, as a war cry for hammerers on the battlefield, or as a hummed tune among the few living ancestors who dwell in the Great Halls. Thank you, Simon.
Hello, MrViking, this idea inspired something great in me. So in my DnD campaign, the leader of the Voldrun (The name of the Dwarven Society in my setting) was told by an Elven Overseer in a mining colony to "stop causing trouble, go be a good little Dwarf and Diggy Dig your hole", this was the spark of the revolution that would eventually free the Dwarves from Elven oppression, and as a commemorative tribute, turned this song into their anthem. Anyways, thanks for the idea..
It's cool to see that THIS song, Diggy Diggy Hole, has become the rallying cry for everyone in the Dwarf community. Be it Warhammer, WoW, LOTR, Deep Rock, or any other IP, we all come together under the banner of the sturdy mountain men.
"Why do we mine? What compels us to seek out the deepest and darkest of holes and make them even deeper? I'll tell you; it's in our nature, our nature as men, as short kings. We crave violence, we crave alcohol, we crave that mineral." - SsethTzeentach

I am convinced that a not insignificant portion of the population would choose to become dwarves if they were given the chance, living under the mountains, forging master craft armor, digging through rock and stone unearthing gems and gold, and drinking ale with their bearded brothers and sisters, sounds like a life well spent if you ask me.

To think it started off as a random off-the-cuff moment, and it has now become a beloved part of internet culture.
This is a hearty song. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is studded with adamantine, and encircled with bands of steel. This object menaces with spikes of glory. On the item is an image of a dwarf. The dwarf is covered in mud. The dwarf is covered in blood.
Clamavi de Profundis = Longbeards Wind Rose = Blacklocks Yogscast = Broadbeams RichaadEB & Jonathan Young = Ironfists Colm R. McGuiness = Firebeards We just need two more covers and all 7 realms of dwarves are united. Ps.: Where is the "I am the elf and I filling in the hole"? >:(
So... uh... I lost, like, a 2 feet of height and have a beard long enough to touch the floor now. Edit: The song just ended and I just found a massive axe in my room...
And thus, everyone above heard the shaking of stone and rock as the entire underground started singing in unison, showing them that they may be small, but they together pack a punch and a pick that can move tectonic plates! This was absolutely great, ALE AND MEAD FOR EVERYONE!
I’ve listened to all of these covers independently of each other and they were amazing then; I can’t believe this video’s been up an entire week without anyone telling me! Incredible energy of dwarves digging a hole, thank you for your work! To my dwarven kin: Armok has blessed us this day.
This was so good. It just blows me away that the Yogs were able to take a really funny early 2010s minecraft RP meme and make it something grand. And then to have everyone start to make badass covers of it beyond that is just- it's great! And then this on top of all of that!? Man, today was a good day to find this video.
This mashup is truly the ultimate version of this song at the moment it sounds like the entirety of dwarf-kind coming together to harmonize to this one song
4:29... That's the pinnacle of everything that was and ever will be. This isn't even a song anymore it's an experience because this is genuinely amazing.
As you venture deeper into the cavern you begin to hear something. Chanting? No singing, you reach the end of the tunnel and you see a massive city filled with dwarves. The men of the mountains have united at last and they celebrate with an anthem of fellowship.
I listened to this while stuck on a 3 hour car trip while my bowels were trying to expel the tamale I ate the day before, con confirm this song gives you strength
I'm disappointed by the lack of the elf filling in the hole at the end but even so, I love this. Any day is a good day when a new version of Diggy Diggy Hole comes out.
To think this started as a spur of the moment little diddy from Simon all those years ago. For it to evolve into this... Let it be said: Ye Olde Goon Squad inspired literal generation gaps to sing of dwarves digging for treasures better than Tolkien. YEAH, I SPOKE SACRELIGE WHAT OF IT!?
Well, if it weren't for the Tolkien films in the first place then this original song wouldn't have even come to pass. Yes, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs technically counts as "digging for treasure" but the Tolkien films took what was little known in pop culture and brought it out for everyone.
Nah bro you’re right, anyone who claims Tolkien had anything to do with this masterpiece uniting the dwarves is a filthy leaf-loving, knife-eared *no-beard*
0:40 this spot gives me pure chills every time I hear it. The buildup is perfect, the masculine choir, French horn rips, and super loud drums are just amazing
the fact there is a "dwarf community" that spans across all game genres, time periods, settings, backgrounds and in real life with anyone of any height anything preserves my hope in humanity who knew short men with big beards and pickaxes could be the best way to work towards world peace
Man... I remember when Episode 8 of Shadow of Israphel went live and hearing Simon sing diggy diggy hole was just the funnest shit. NEVER in a million years did I thought it'll become the anthem of Dwaves across the internet. It's a beautiful thing to behold.
Mankind resonates with this; mankind's entire exsistance revolves around holes. Spends 9 months trying to get out of one and the rest of his life working into one
I just love that the image of a dwarf is that consistant throughout all of fantasy media. most of the other fantasy races get morphed and merged with creative ideas and concepts. But the "dwarf"-concept is as solid as the rock it digs into.
This is my favourite mix of all the versions of the song. Because it genuinely sounds like a chorus of dwarves all singing in unison. From the deepest deposits all the way up the mine shaft to the mine entrance where the raucous singing of thousands of hard working dwarven miners can flood their undermountain kingdom.
From 8 eight years old to 20 years, this song has been one of the best I've heard and brings back so much nostalgia for while I played minecraft and even figured out the beat on a ukelele. Thank the Yogscast for the original, but everyone else cemented it in history!
if i could hit the like button more than once on one video, it would be this masterpiece. i would singlehandedly sit here and click until that button hit 10M

This is a hearty song. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is studded with adamantine, and encircled with bands of steel. This object menaces with spikes of glory. On the item is an image of a dwarf. The dwarf is covered in mud. The dwarf is covered in blood.
Underrated comment!
Now throw it in the pile and get back to work!
Clamavi de Profundis = Longbeards
Wind Rose = Blacklocks
Yogscast = Broadbeams
RichaadEB & Jonathan Young = Ironfists
Colm R. McGuiness = Firebeards
We just need two more covers and all 7 realms of dwarves are united.
Ps.: Where is the "I am the elf and I filling in the hole"? >:(
Probably shooting an arrow at something to fill the new hole a dwarf made😆
Where are these clans from?
My gods, you dwarfs spend so much time complaining about elves, I'm starting to think you hate us more than the goblins!

This felt like the dwarven clans meeting to vote for the new high king and in the end everyone is feasting after the coronation.
4:30 The buildup to all the song’s combined hits so hard! Thank you TH-cam recommendations. Never would have found this otherwise.
And thus, everyone above heard the shaking of stone and rock as the entire underground started singing in unison, showing them that they may be small, but they together pack a punch and a pick that can move tectonic plates! This was absolutely great, ALE AND MEAD FOR EVERYONE!
that epic drum roll is spine chilling
This is the definition of eargasm
I’ve listened to all of these covers independently of each other and they were amazing then; I can’t believe this video’s been up an entire week without anyone telling me!
Incredible energy of dwarves digging a hole, thank you for your work!

@@jason-blond8495 The RichardEB version I believe.
For Karaz Ankor!
This was so good. It just blows me away that the Yogs were able to take a really funny early 2010s minecraft RP meme and make it something grand. And then to have everyone start to make badass covers of it beyond that is just- it's great! And then this on top of all of that!? Man, today was a good day to find this video.
From a joke song to a fan made song to an official song to a metal song to all this, name me another song that has such a storied journey.

FOR KARL
This song feels like its from an ancient era of a lost civilisation on mulitple levels
Literally the only thing wrong is that one time the lyrics don't overlap
Everything else... chefs kiss.
Blame Clamavi de Profundis. They edited the lyrics to be slightly more family-friendly, which is fine, but it makes mashups tricky.
I think it is intented. See dwarfs from diffirent setups sing this song, each would sing it a slightly diffirent
I was crying with more pure joy the longer this song went on
Same bro, rock and stone!
Same.
Man I remember seeing the Yogscast version all the time when I was younger. This song just gives me a wave of nostalgia no matter what version it is
I listened to this while stuck on a 3 hour car trip while my bowels were trying to expel the tamale I ate the day before, con confirm this song gives you strength
😂
That is a VIVID image that I did not need or want
This is amazing... only thing that'd make it ascended tier is if they all said the "BROTHERS OF THE MINE REJOICE" together.
Man I miss the golden age of the Yogscast
I'm disappointed by the lack of the elf filling in the hole at the end but even so, I love this. Any day is a good day when a new version of Diggy Diggy Hole comes out.
I was going to add that part, but I felt like it just didn't fit. (Besides, the elf is still trying to fill in the previous hole)
Keep that pointy eared leaf lover out of our hole lad. We can never dig too deep
The hole is way to vast for any one elf to fill up

That's okay. It might take 600 years, but everyone needs a hobby.
@@5h0rgunn45 Indeed, luckily elves have the required lifespan for such a job!
Don't direspect the last dwarf of Moria who's still breathing

ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS!!!
I just love that the image of a dwarf is that consistant throughout all of fantasy media. most of the other fantasy races get morphed and merged with creative ideas and concepts. But the "dwarf"-concept is as solid as the rock it digs into.
They are known as the "sturdy folk" for a reason, after all!
We need a 10 hour version of this

This is my favourite mix of all the versions of the song. Because it genuinely sounds like a chorus of dwarves all singing in unison. From the deepest deposits all the way up the mine shaft to the mine entrance where the raucous singing of thousands of hard working dwarven miners can flood their undermountain kingdom.
From 8 eight years old to 20 years, this song has been one of the best I've heard and brings back so much nostalgia for while I played minecraft and even figured out the beat on a ukelele. Thank the Yogscast for the original, but everyone else cemented it in history!
