It still surprises me that this event happened a second time in May 2012, though it wasn't 100% like the 2002 convention it was still awesome to see 3751 & 4960 running together to the Grand Canyon. Ngl, it would be cool if it happened again in 2022 but with 2926 maybe, but I still feel like the chances of 3751 or 2926 heading to gcr this year are slim. Not to mention with the many changes that have happens since 2018 with trains now requiring Ptc and Amtrak no longer allowing mainline excursions.
@@atsfevan0242 Well you know what they say: Third time's the charm. :) And besides.... heh.... think of the money shots one would get of ATSF 3751 and ATSF 2926 together at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon via at the Grand Canyon Log Station :3
There were discussions on a lot of locomotives that wanted to attend. I don't recall Frisco 1522 being a serious contender, but I'm not going to say that it didn't come up. 2002 was the year that FRA regulations changed, and many steam locomotives were sidelined afterwards. I think 1522 ran their last trips in September of that year. For the committee, it was always about 3751 from the start. We felt that we only had enough resources to organize one mainline excursion, and we needed the ticket revenue to cover the costs of the convention. I don't think we ever told another organization that they couldn't bring their steam locomotive, but they had to handle the logistics themselves. Of course, we had concerns of competing excursions muddying the waters for ticket sales....
@@ehadder Ah..... Reason why I asked: I kept seeing the Wikipedia article for 1522 in recent months and kept wondering if that was ever true though. I mean.... heh.... that would of been impressive though: 3 different steam locomotives that were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (aka... 1522, 4960, and 3751) all together in one location :)

@@atsfevan0242 We'll have to wait and see. ;)
Don’t worry. It’ll happen. Just have to wait and see. It’ll all go through in a complicated but very easy way.
What railroad is that one photo of that blue & white high hood unit from?
@@TravisDGordon that belonged to the recycling plant in Kingman. I think it’s was called North Star steel.
A fun look back….
Btw.... was it true that Frisco 1522 was also gonna attend the convention as well?
