I've never heard of Maid of Honor tarts. It's nice to learn about the "forgotten" recipes too, along with the stories of the history of currently popular baked goods.
First, I just love you! Picture of Catherine of Argon's pet monkey "Not him!" 😆💀😆 Some thoughts... You can curdle milk with lemon juice, as well as vinegar, and it might give the cheese a better flavor for sweets. The best grades of cinnamon today are used for the ground spice rather than whole sticks making it one of the only instances where it's actually best not to grind it yourself. Last, cream is never too much!
I had seen the Portugese tarts before but never the English ones. Gotta try those some day 😁 History is always interesting - especially when you can eat it 😁
Another great production. The humor just gets better and Iove the connection between the Maid of Honour tart and pastel de nata. Greensleeves, too...nice touch, especially with the Henry VIII connection!
Excellent excuse to visit Richmond. Can the human tell the difference between the maids of honour and the pastel de nata in a blind taste test? For science, obviously....
Hey Ben, really enjoyed this, it was a fascinating insight and very entertaining. Totally appreciate the effort you put into this. I can see you have a helper too! Also noted you had to throw the Belgium flag in there too🇧🇪 I’m currently in Portugal and enjoying a coffee & pastel de Nata 🇵🇹 Keep up the tremendous work. James
Thanks Hibby! Well yes, that flag represented the origin of Carolus Battus. Sadly the Euro 2024 flag pack didn't have the flag of the Spanish Netherlands. 😔

It's not that forgotten in the UK though. It was even on Bake Off once.

Lactose intolerance be damned!
I like all your videos tho
Always a joy to watch your videos! One of my favourite food channels!
Dawww, making me blush now.
Another superb video! Now, I'm off to buy some pasteis de nata from a local bakery 🤤
Good to know we're helping small businesses around the world.

We should make that the channel tagline... 🤔
And off with the hate towards raisins, currants and plums! I dare you to make a video of these, at the time popular ingredients!
Yes sorry. Mainly left them out because they weren't used in the Richmond ones. The currants have been repurposed in the Human's home made muesli.

Thanks! Glad you liked it.
😘 more videos!
Last week's video started as a small tangent while writing this one.
Hola that's a lot to take in, but very well brought. A history lesson and a cooking lesson combined. 😂😂🎉😂
Quite a history lesson human. I will become very smart and informed following you.
love your videos as always, one day ill recreate one of them.. maybe.. hopefully
These are actually pretty easy if you go and buy the puff pastry.
Ik kijk altijd met veel plezier naar jouw filmpjes. Ze zijn leerrijk en interessant. Op naar het volgende.
Such a treat - I missed this when it came out! 😢 Was sad, but got glad again!😅❤
You make a perfect Anne Boleyn. 😂😂😂
Forsooth!
So glad to see another video so soon, God bless! :)
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@intaberna I did, very much. :)

Yes, the main difference is the curds and even though they taste similar the mouth feel (sorry) is very different.
@@intaberna any excuse to let the human have more treats
