I also watch Garden Answer. I've been subscribed to that channel for about a year and have just begun to apply some of her techniques this season. I would recommend watching "The Lawn Care Nut" for your lawn. I started watching him last year and IMMEDIATELY put his techniques to use. My lawn has never looked so good. I don't even do more than 2% of what he does and WOW the results are amazing. He breaks things down to a science. I get it now... I've struggled for so many years trying to figure out how folks got such lush lawns. ❤ from Detroit.

I love Laura from Garden Answer . I watch her all the time. She is inspirational! I get all my ideas from her for my front yard and from Pinterest. My husband and I recently redid our front landscape that I designed and all I have to do is get some planter pots and plants to finish the project. All our neighbors came over yesterday and today told us how nice our front yard is. Our front yard stands out from all the neighbors front yards. We also painted our house last year with gray exterior with white trim & black door and all our neighbors told us that our house looks really nice. Our house is the talk of our neighborhood. I think some of the neighbors want to redo their homes now.
Gardening is a great stress reliever. You are one with the soil and the plants. I don't have a garden, but I do have a balcony. I plant my perennials and annuals in containers every year and they really gave me great joy. Once you start gardening, you will be out there every day, snipping and weeding and watering. This turned out really nice and I like that you pointed out a number of things for your viewers to consider when undergoing and outdoor project. I just purchased a new doormat and am now thinking that I need to throw a rug underneath it...love the look. When planting in heavy, clay rich soil I always make the hole a bit larger than needed, I incorporate potting soil mixed with fertilizer then add the plant. It gives the roots something healthy to grow into. Good job on the makeover, looks nice.
It looks great and I know you two had fun spending time and working on it together- really makes the work go so much easier when you do it together. I always prefer the black mulch, too. It just seems to make the green look so much brighter.
This is your gardener friend Ms.V,you and your husband did a great job,ihave been a advance gardener for 40 +yrs.and and my Yorkie, Diamond loves being outside, some tips,like a viewer said always amend your soil with some fertilizer for heavy clay soil, I have been blessed not to have that problem, and you could add some topsoil in before add your mulch,or for bloom ing flowers, I add in some Miracle Growth potting mix,for bigger blooms, it gives flowers a jump start to becoming beautiful &healthier. Miracle Growth ,has so many product for the soil and trees.flowers and houseplants..I love there products to mix in the soil before add ing in mulch. You.are on your way to being a happy gardener. It's relaxing and stress free.trial and error. Is the best teacher. I got my love from my mom. & grandparents, it strange all of my 3 sisters and one brother and his wife has the green thumb bug,for gardening. We are so blessed,and now my siblings kids is have fun with there parents in there yards.Happy Gardening,Nikki!

TIP FOR the clay soil: use gypsum in your planting holes and eventually that will loosen up your soil. Automated watering is such a game changer. Once you get drip irrigation you will love it and will love gardening too🤣😍 Keep us posted on the growth I know it will be beautiful and thanks for sharing😊

I too, have been working in my flower beds, adding plants and mulch. Moved in a year ago and had so much work to do on the inside that I am now getting to the outside. But it is so rewarding! Love the mix of plants, the different textures that the leaves have makes it interesting. I personally love gardening, I could spend all day outside in all my gardens. First thing I suggest is to water daily early in the AM before the hit sun or after the sun goes down and it starts to cool off. Fertilizer is a must, I like miracle grow. I put it in my sprayer attached to my hose and give them a good soaking once a week, your plants will be bigger and look healthy, they love it. Early in the planting season after I have cleaned my gardens of any weeds I use green for weeds, saves you a lot of time and wear and tear on your back and knees. Anyway, loved the redo of the gardens, 👍👍👍, ✌&💘 to ALL.
You did a great job on your plant selections. I see you discovered what a PITA landscape fabric is. In future projects, you might want to think about pulling that out first. That way you can dig easily (a tip: make your holes for shrubs two as wide but not deeper than the rootball). With the landscape fabric gone the mulch will break down into the soil and improve your soil over time. Great job!
Nikki - you and your husband did a wonderful job! I absolutely love Laura from Garden Answer. She is very knowledgable. I have learn so much from her. I've always loved gardening but needed some education and she has definitely provided it. One of the main things I have learned from her has been fertilizing. Like I said, I love gardening but didn't realized how important fertilizing is to the plants. They need more that just water. They need food as well. So I have been fertilizing and oh the wonders. My little garden has been the best! I see gardening in a whole different light because of Laura and have plans to change it up a little come the fall. May I suggest that you fertilize those beautiful plants you just planted and watch them take off. Garden on Girlfriend!!! E
You guys did an awesome job! Love green, so the green and white color scheme is a winner for me. Next time you plant something, because I think you will, make sure you make the hole twice as large as the plant base and add a little fertilizer to encourage the roots to spread out. Then water in. By the way, great job loosening up those roots! I think you are more of a gardener than you think 💚

Nikki, I love the makeover you and Mike created. I too love the black and white due to the richness of the color. It does make everything pop! My husband and I struggle also with the outside. I will watch the videos that you suggested and maybe that will help. The steps you both took together and you have encouraged us also. I would try the jewel solar's midway in back of your ferns as long as the sun hits them to light. I

Thank you for this video, Nikki! We just did ours today. Your garden already looks lovely. A couple of tips that work for me: use a 1/2" foam exercise mat on the ground to protect the knees; Sweet Woodruff, a lovely little green perennial with tiny white flowers, makes an excellent ground cover in shady areas and really keeps the weeds at bay; it is a great alternative to replacing mulch year after year.

My husband and I love to garden and he bought me a Kneeling pad so it’s easier on your knees when you plant. We planned every year so I really needed one of those. They’re not expensive and they’re just perfect.

Looks great Nikki!! I didn't know you have doggies, they are so cute!! I hope you will post a video later in the season to show us how everything progressed and filled in. I too, have been working in my flower beds, adding plants and mulch. Moved in a year ago and had so much work to do on the inside that I am now getting to the outside. But it is so rewarding! Thanks for sharing and blessings to you!
Love the mix of plants, the different textures that the leaves have makes it interesting. I personally love gardening, I could spend all day outside in all my gardens. First thing I suggest is to water daily early in the AM before the hit sun or after the sun goes down and it starts to cool off. Fertilizer is a must, I like miracle grow. I put it in my sprayer attached to my hose and give them a good soaking once a week, your plants will be bigger and look healthy, they love it. Early in the planting season after I have cleaned my gardens of any weeds I use green for weeds, saves you a lot of time and wear and tear on your back and knees. Anyway, loved the redo of the gardens, 👍👍👍, ✌&💘 to ALL.
You did a great job on your plant selections. I see you discovered what a PITA landscape fabric is. In future projects, you might want to think about pulling that out first. That way you can dig easily (a tip: make your holes for shrubs two as wide but not deeper than the rootball). With the landscape fabric gone the mulch will break down into the soil and improve your soil over time. Great job!
Nikki - you and your husband did a wonderful job! I absolutely love Laura from Garden Answer. She is very knowledgable. I have learn so much from her. I've always loved gardening but needed some education and she has definitely provided it. One of the main things I have learned from her has been fertilizing. Like I said, I love gardening but didn't realized how important fertilizing is to the plants. They need more that just water. They need food as well. So I have been fertilizing and oh the wonders. My little garden has been the best! I see gardening in a whole different light because of Laura and have plans to change it up a little come the fall. May I suggest that you fertilize those beautiful plants you just planted and watch them take off.

You guys did an awesome job! Love green, so the green and white color scheme is a winner for me. Next time you plant something, because I think you will, make sure you make the hole twice as large as the plant base and add a little fertilizer to encourage the roots to spread out. Then water in. By the way, great job loosening up those roots! I think you are more of a gardener than you think 💚
See you do it right! I see so many TH-camrs struggling with house stuff and never go to fellow TH-camrs for suggestions; it’s so annoying! It’s good to see an expert first of all admit that they don’t like doing some parts of their profession and need help and inspiration! Love you Nikki!

Garden Answer(s)...I just love to watch her. She sure knows a lot about her plants. I believe her family owns a nursery.....she has so many garden areas. Such a hugh property. She's going to do her garden tour when she's done...I can't wait.

Nikki, I love the makeover you and Mike created. I too love the black and white due to the richness of the color. It does make everything pop! My husband and I struggle also with the outside. I will watch the videos that you suggested and maybe that will help. The steps you both took together and you have encouraged us also. I would try the jewel solar's midway in back of your ferns as long as the sun hits them to light. I

Bless your heart! You and Mike worked so hard. I always planted a white garden in clay. So much effort, but my garden was always beautiful as is yours. Now that we live in Florida, we are planting purples and oranges and reds in our easy sandy soil. We succumbed to crazy Florida. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your beautiful front area. ❤️

Thank you for this video, Nikki! We just did ours today. Your garden already looks lovely. A couple of tips that work for me: use a 1/2" foam exercise mat on the ground to protect the knees; Sweet Woodruff, a lovely little green perennial with tiny white flowers, makes an excellent ground cover in shady areas and really keeps the weeds at bay; it is a great alternative to replacing mulch year after year.
For someone who's garden knowledge is limited, you & Mike did such an amazing job Nikki. It truly looked lovely & I loved the 2 mat idea. Please could you keep us updated with your garden?

My husband and I love to garden and he bought me a Kneeling pad so it’s easier on your knees when you plant. We planned every year so I really needed one of those. They’re not expensive and they’re just perfect.

Make sure you use the right plants for your area. Garden Answer thrives bc she lives in Oregon. Each state has different soil. I lived in Tex for awhile and the soil was hard to work with. I live in so. calif now..hope it turns out beautiful...

Hi Nikki! Gosh, I can so identify! I love flowers, but am not a gardener. I much prefer indoor decorating. However, like you, I have been trying. I quite enjoy the planting, but the prep work of getting the flower beds ready is a real chore for me. Yours looks beautiful and I know that you are going to enjoy it!
