Ron Paul was indeed an exception to the usual rule. He flew coach except when he was upgraded using frequent flier miles. When campaigning for president, he stayed at Super 8 motels instead of fancy places. He even refused Secret Service protection because he didn't think his security was the responsibility of the taxpayers. While he was in Congress, lobbyists didn't bother to approach him because they knew that he would not be swayed from his beliefs no matter what they offered. Whether or not one agrees with his politics, it's indisputable that he was a man of principle.
And that is why he does not get any further in politics than he has.

@@dashx1103I think you need to actually look into Tulsi Gabbard's record. She doesn't need to "do a 180" on HER policy positions. There are reasons establishment Democrats hate her, and effectively drove her out of the party. Her personal positions were often in conflict with the establishment Dems. The one position I know of that she took along with them, that of 2A, she has since reversed after leaving the Democrat Party. She was never a good fit for the "New Democrat" Party.
