Mike Reed plays "Misty" on the Hammond Organ

- "Misty" is a sweet jazz standard written in 1954 by pianist Erroll Garner. He composed it as an instrumental in the traditional 32-bar format and recorded it for the album Contrasts (1955). Lyrics were added later by Johnny Burke. It became the signature song of Johnny Mathis, appearing on his 1959 album Heavenly. Erroll Garner was inspired to write "Misty" on a flight from San Francisco to Chicago which passed through a thunderstorm: as the plane descended into O'Hare, Garner looked through the window to see a rainbow glowing through a haze and was moved to begin composing "Misty" on the spot. How he "wrote" it out is an interesting question..... he could not read or write music. God works in mysterious ways..... No mystery as to the way I play it here. Just "Hammondized" for harmonious and melodious pleasure. 3/23/2022. "Life is Good". 😎🎹🌴
Losing Mike Reed pains my heart to no end. As an old organist playing the Hammond Concorde I looked forward to each day when Mike would upload another classic, organ tune. Truly, we have lost a giant. Rest in peace, Mike.
Ja schade um diesen Musiker! 😂
❤
Amen, RIP Mike Reed! I'm new to his music, & agree he was a TITAN!
Every day I miss you, Mike. RIP ❤
Wonderful…..
Not only for Clint🔫Eastwood……
Also „Play Misty For Me“….
…..make your day……
🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️🎗️ RIP Mike!
You bring relaxation to a hectic day. Thanks
I shamed Mike into recording his youtube videos. We had a mutual organist friend, Rudy Rosa, who died way too early of cancer, but he recorded many youtube videos which we still enjoy today. Mike had many tape recordings (reel to reel, cassette, etc.) but he did not have any videos. I told him that his three sons and grandchildren as well as his wife, Janice, would always have this great music for eternity. I also did not realize that a worldwide audience would also enjoy this God given talent. Thankfully, he followed through and here we are listening to him and smiling as I know he is also. Thanks Mike for the wonderful music and the thousands of hours having fun playing together. By the way, I never saw him use a sheet of music. It was all in his head and he could transpose so easily. It was unreal!
Wow Mike was an awesome musician. Thanks for sharing your Impressions! God Bless You! ❤
Thank you. I really need to do this for my grand kids.
Mike, you’re a goddamn legend.
I just Love this man. Wondrous✌️🌍
Dear Mike, such a great standard jazz tune! That's the best song for these beautiful old Hammond and your'e fingers! 👍🏼😉😎🎹
Watching and listening to you play, no sheet music all from memory I guess, on a daily basis, working the pedals with your feet, changing the keyboards sounds hitting damn near every switch and button never loosing your place, these videos will be viewed and watched by people and they are really lessons on how this type of organ was meant to be played. Mr. Mike Reed thank you.
Absolutely SUPURB!
I sure miss playing Misty with my late brother, guitarist. Sitting here listening, smiling. We both loved this tune. Yes, I'm a saxophonist.
Love this Mike…I want my Hammond back …Leslie speaker too….lol
And again I am transported by many magical moments from Misty Mike…. Thanks for sharing .
I know you’re elsewhere, but I gotta say Mike, hep me jeebus, ❤
Thanks, Mike, for your beautiful music! It certainly takes me back to a better time!

You play these classics with such finesse and heart!!! Love everything you play!!!
really enjoyed your playing Mike the Hammond sounds great many thanks
Great tune,great performance…..thank you….☮️🎶🔛🌎
This is sooo good ! Well done !
Just think the Hammond was huge. Then came synthesizers and now people are giving them away. Thanks Mike.. fab performance using virtually all of the great features of that great instrument. In the 80s I fronted a four piece dance combo. We specialized in playing in Legions and Fraternal Clubs and had a fine Hammond artist. It was a task hauling his B3 and Leslie speaker into gigs but totally worth the effort as dancers truly loved it and we became very popular.
i found this channel too late i see damn what a player. RIP
The Hammond really was a magnificent instrument and in the hands of a great organist it is sublime!
The comments just let me know this gentleman has moved on. Indeed we lost a great musician. RIP Mike. Glad I ran a across you here. 🙏🏿🙏🏿

Lyrics
Thank you
I thank you so much
Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
And I feel like I'm clingin' to a cloud
I can't understand
I get misty just holding your hand
Walk my way
And a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello
That music I hear
I get misty whenever you're near
You can't see that you're leading me on
And it's just what I want you to do
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you
On my own
When I wander through this wonderland alone
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove
I'm too misty and too much in love
Too misty and too much in love
Look at me

... perhaps one of the best jazzy standards forever, Chris 😉? I love this composition and I love the piano style from "the one and only" Errol Garner - Mike's rendition/interpretation here is wonderful, too 👍🙋♂️🥰♥️🌤 ...
@@hobbykeyboard-organman6221 I couldn’t agree more Dietmar. You always have a good description of the music. I enjoy reading your comments. Have a good week, and be safe. 🥰Chris ,🥰♥️🎶🥀🎶♥️🌴🏖😎🎼🎹bye for now.

Thanks Mike.
Misty, which is not heavy, is also good👍I was able to spend a wonderful self-break time with Mr. Mike's performance, thank you 🥰💫
Very smooth! 😍 May I make a request? "Wives and Lovers"❤️
"Baubles, Bangles and Beads"; perhaps?
Blessings💐
Mike, you are sweet !
So sad that Mike is gone, I finally got my hands on a Hammond in my house and it’s Mike who I try to embody on the organ but I know it will take time to get there, such a beautiful musician ❤️
Bravo ! Bravo !!!
Wonderful!
Great stuff! You are indeed a Master and spread lots of joy.
bravo!
a Hammond Grandee?..sounds so beautiful
Nice Mike. I have a gig coming up where I have to play an Grandee, a private affair. Watching you for tips, been shedding on my B2 at home :-) (Linda from Hamtech)
How ya doing, Linda? I'm still up in the Cleveland area (been here for 33 years, after playing in Florida for 13 years). Hope you're well.
@@mikereed3444 Doing well. Enjoy your videos!
It was actually an Elegante. Played the event today. Learned a lot watching your videos over the last while. Sure like that pedal sustain on these organs to play solo. Mostly I play in a trio with guitar and drums and sax depending on the gig.
A master at his craft. Always enjoyable Mike!
Great organist and great Hammond!
Sweet.
Fantástico 👏👏👏
What an amazing organist .
Wonderful music 🤩👍
😀
Absolutely wonderful job! I've heard many versions of this song, and this one is the best! Could you do a cover of Santo and Johnny's Sleep Walk?
8 31 2023 Miss Ya Mike RIP
Please play That's all
Thank you
just played it for you... Thursday's song of the day.
@@mikereed3444 Thank you
Mike. Beautiful 🥰
The way an organ should be played -- with extra glissando :)
COOKIN!
Great jazz organ skills you have. So flawless and beautiful hammond sounds.
Could I upload to you some great jazz organ tracks? I have had this record but do not know who the artist is. I appriciate if you coud listen to them and get an idea. Can email to you.
Guy is good
Be careful Mr. Reed....Play Misty for me......
Que marca e modelo e este órgão eu tenho um igual mais não sei o modelo dele porque não tem mais a etiqueta tem como você passar pra mim
Does your left leg has it's own brain? How do you do it?
"Okay, take it away, Skutters"
Sexy sound!
I get misty.
A Great loss to the music world
