    Last 33/1 + 4TC Was actually out of Temple Meads on a Sunday morning service in June 1988 after taking a 33/0 on a Cardiff to Weymouth service vice a class 155 unit from Newport, only to find 33119 with a Bristol to Portsmouth Harbour service which I took to Bath……all 33 haulage after that was on special services and rail tours…….. such gutsy little engine’s and very reliable…… thanks for the reminders of better times, great footage 👍👍👍😎

    Those were the day's, now only a memory, except when they come out to play these days, on the occasional railtour.
    Truely nothing else like'em, unique to BR, cracking locomotives.
    I had the pleasure of driving one at Swanage Railway one day.
    The exhaust note always does it for me, fabulous sound when they come on song!

    Not "EMU's". These are unpowered 4TC sets built for push pull use with 4 REP and 33/1 locos.

    I do miss this combo pulling into and away from Basingstoke station while I waited on Platform 4 for the stopping service to London in the 80’s.. ❤️

    I remember how the Class 33s could accelerate out of Waterloo - it seemed that some drivers would increase the Diesel speed up to near maximum with the train just creeping forward and then engage the traction motors resulting in the train shooting out of the station. I miss BR.

      True, I remember that too as I used to go on the train from Waterloo to Winchester back in the day when I was a kid, and alot of the time the train had a class 33 loco at the front.
      But these old diesels can't match the modern diesels, like class 68 for acceleration. The 68's are very powerful locos and have a unique sound. That low frequency throb that you can often heat in the distance before you see the loco

      @@robtyman4281 I'm pretty sure that the 159 DMU could easily out perform class 33s massively on the routes out of Waterloo.
      Great Loco from a Nostalgic point of view, but certainly "of its time" in terms of practicality.

      @@robtyman4281 Class 68s are awful locomotives, too light and very rough riding.

    Reminds me of the 33/tc combos West of Bournemouth. Silence of the 4 REPS replaced by grind!

    8 coaches to Bristol, what decadence is this?

    • @HFStuart
      @HFStuart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The use of "4TC" and "decadence" together is not a common pairing! But as you say no lack of space for the day trippers going to the seaside

      @@HFStuart I would have bitten your hand off if you offered 8TC versus the 2-car 158 we usually got.
