  • Walking through picturesque Finnish small town Hamina (Finnish) / Fredrikshamn (Swedish) in south east Finland. Beautiful wooden houses, so playfully decorated. In one of them the Swedish king Gustav ||| met his cousin Katarina the great of Russia for secret discussions. Guiding captions about historic events. But please remember that the facts are from 10 minutes on Wikipedia, don’t rely on them without reading more for yourself!

    My real passion is Sweden, not the capital but the small towns on the shores of the lakes, I watched several videos and was delighted. The large centers are already contaminated by different cultures. At some point in my life I will visit these cities, that's why, See you soon.

      I feel the same. Big cities are not Swedish anymore but the small towns are still idyllic and among the coziest places to live in the world.

      My own little observation is that old houses in Finland has more colors and definitely more often are yellow then in Sweden where most traditional houses are red (faluröd). And painting is fun, just that boring bit before you get to the actual painting…

      @@StockholmWalks it's quite a long time ago, I was 5 yrs old at the time. My area where I walked wasn't that big. I can't find the market garden that we lived next to. It's probably long gone. We were a walking distance to the ocean or sea. And my dad used to take us for walks to the old part of town. I think there was a military base near by and a park with ponds.

    O cenário lembra meu local de nascimento, com excessão da temperatura quem em seu minimo batia os 32º C durante todo o ano. The scenery reminds me of my birthplace, with the exception of the temperature, which at its lowest reached 32º C throughout the year.

    How about the population? Do they know Russian or Swedish as well as Finnish? How many lives there? Is anyone going to the Russian church or is it like a museum?

    • @StockholmWalks
      @StockholmWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! I don’t know a whole lot about it I’m afraid. About 20.000 people live there, it’s considered an all Finnish speaking area, but off course that’s never 100%. Since there’s been so much business with Russian companies in the area (the harbor etc) it’s reasonable to assume some Russians has settled down here. English works better that Swedish most of the time, although many know some Swedish from school. The Orthodox Church was built for Russian officers during the Russian era. It doesn’t seem to be a museum so I’m guessing it’s an active church. Although I think the Finn’s are almost as non-church going as Swedes. I do have a follower that lives in this town- perhaps he/she will answer!

    • @tuttirulla
      @tuttirulla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it is pretty much a Finnish speaking area. If you go a bit towards west you will find more Swedish, such as in Loviisa and Porvoo (Lovisa/Borgå). The only people speaking Russian are ethnic Russians.

    Let's improve your English. Boarder, someone who pays to live with you. Border, a line of demarcation, a boundary between things.
