My mom is from the south and grew up in the fifties and sixties, and she surprises me with new sandwiches every day! The one that blew me away was an onion sandwich-thick sliced onion, bread, Mayo, salt and pepper. She also got me eating tomato sandwiches! People are very critical of southern food or food from a few decades ago, but a lot of those dishes are inexpensive, filling, and delicious. It may not be a health food, but it’s darn good for the soul ☺️
When we were little my mom made these all the time now this makes me want to make one. Between this and your Christmas catalog videos it's a great time to be a mary fan

My mom used to make these for me all the time!! She also used to make fried bologna and serve it plain with scrambled eggs whenever we had a day off of school, as a treat... thank you so much for this trip down memory lane! 💜 And I thought it was hilarious when you said "you people across the pond wondering where the butter is..." 🤣🤣🤣 I didn't know it wasn't an all-American thing! I'm from MN and the only things I've ever buttered are a PB&J and a plain cheese sandwich... never bologna! But I guess it's different for everybody. I loved this video so so much! Balogna w/ mustard sandwiches were my jam growing up. In HS, a guy firends' mom would make balogna, cheese, and mayonnaise sandwiches which he hated but I loved and could never duplicate. My dad would make fried balogna for breakfast and I always loved it. Lots of balogna memories. "My balogna has a first name..." 🎶

I’m so glad you’ve made this video. I heard your comment on Fried Bologna and that’s all i’ve been thinking about all week. My Polish Grandma is the one who always made me Fried Bologna Sandwiches, usually after school. Though i’ve never been a fan of mustard so i’ve always done mayo.
We were so excited when we got the welfare cheese. We loved it when the meat nested and cheese melted and pooled in the nest. If we were lucky and got our foodstamps we could have tomatoes and lettuce on it but that was once a month. Mom had 4 kids to feed so fresh lettuce was and tomatoes was used for other dinners like tacos. I don't think we ever tosted the bread. We used mustard so very lite and ketchup was the best on it. Loved your video.

Growing up Latina in Southern California in the 1950s, this was a real treat for us kids (there were 11 of us). Big brother Tom would man the stove while I laid out the white bread for an assembly line feast. If we were out of bread, we put the fried bologna (with mustard) in a corn tortilla and rolled it up for a quick on-the-go snack. Fun video!

It's crazy seeing how different people make bologna sandwiches. It's like everyone has a specific way of making them and you never remember exactly where you learned it from😂
My version: Grilled bread - lightly spread both pieces with Duke's mayo -fry or grill; then fry the bologna (I don't put slits in mine) fry until deep brown (noted it will form a cup in the middle) right before it comes to the amount of brown you like add cheese, let melt. assemble on your grilled mayo bread you can add tomato and or lettuce, my brother liked his with crispy bacon and a fried egg in the cup in the middle of the bologna. Yummy

Mary, I noticed that you like sandwiches. We make chicken salad sandwiches with multigrain bread and it is so delicious! I like to add lettuce with it. It's just mayo, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and sweet pickle relish mixed together and spread on. My husband likes butter spread on the bread first. We also do the mixture in lettuce wraps. It drips a little, but so yummy! He has a name for them, but can't remember right now. I use the chicken spread for chip dip too lol, so crazy, I know, but so good!
