Finally someone got it right on preventing termites and Good idea sticking the uprights in the cider blocks
Thank you
Bought a 10 inch by 10 feet roll of galvanized metal and made my own termite shields. Save a lot of money by making my own since I use 8 foot landscaping timber for my base and needed support in the middle.
Nice!
My preferred way of bringing in wood for the night’s fire is two blue IKEA bags. That is usually enough to get the fire built up as the sun goes down, and then topping off before heading to bed. If the weather is lousy, then two sets of bags gets through the next day, too.
Cool
First saw those sheet metal shields in a Foxfire book decades ago. Article was on log cabin building.
Cool
Thank you
You’re welcome
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Live the video except for one key part was left out. How do you keep it dry when storing it outside?
Thank you. A covered outdoor rack would be a completely different project and video.
Awesome video!!🤗🤗
Thank you
Brilliant
Thanks
The measurements & materials in the description 🙏 for us newbys to diy
I usually do that but this project is totally customizable to your needs. I used scrap lumber I had so I didn't even draw a plan for it.
Thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you are doing well out there. Do you cover your firewood and if so what do you like to use?
You're welcome. We keep it in an open but covered area of our barn.
Will you put out a video on your fireplace soon ?
We did. About a month ago.
I don’t see the metal piece (to prevent termites ) listed in details .. where to buy that ? Can you please tell what it’s called ?
Sorry about that. It is called a termite shield. Here is the Amazon link.....amzn.to/2ZBdEjN. They only have them in multi-packs. You can also find them at Home Depot or Lowes.
What size did you use in the video for the cement blocks and metal piece? Was it an 8×8
Is it better to store the wood on that kind of rack in the basement garage or an out building (shed)?
Any place that is cover is great. All the places you mentioned would work.
Interesting video Eric. I didn't know you had a termite problem in Texas. We are okay in Ontario. Very good idea though because you sure don't want them in your house.
Thanks Lynda. We do. Anywhere in the southern US has termite problems. Especially Texas.
Where do you get the termite shield from ? i dont see the link
I found them at Lowes.
Great idea. What kind of stove do you run? Check us out if you're into firewood! Thanks for your time.
Will this work on wood ants?
It may discourage them from climbing up but they could physically do it. They may get frustrated and head to another wood source.
Doesn't the termites come in with the firewood?
No, not usually at the stage I buy it at.
Just get some diatomaceous earth...
You do know termites fly
You do know that most species of termite only mate when they fly. Most larvae feed on soft wet wood on the ground or close to the ground. Only 1 species of termite, the dry wood termite, flies up during mating and occasionally stays on the dry wood to eat.
He or she
Great idea. What kind of stove do you run? Check us out if you're into firewood! Thanks for your time.
Thank you. We have a Drolet Escape 1800
