James May felt that three series with Oz was enough, he actually said during one episode of Oz and James Drink to Britain that he will never do another one and he kept his promise. This was supposed to be a one off with Hugh, however it was popular so the BBC made Oz and Hugh Raise the Bar for Christmas 2010.
Imagine if Hugh had done this as Dr. Crispin! That would've been something lol! "What do you think of this Christmas drink, Hugh?" "Tastes like cockroach droppings, Oz, you pretentious old fart. I'm always here!"
I find Oz quite a curiousity. He's a blatent alcoholic but somehow has managed to get onto the TV and some how ingratiate himself with the viewing public and is able to 'enable' his drinking. Its quite amazing when you think about it.
I decided to watch this after it was mentioned on Man Lab S1 ep3 when Hugh did a challenge with wallpaper. I really like Hugh Dennis, but I think James May did a better job at it. The chemistry between Oz and James is somewhat better? Also, James chose better cars! Still, an amazing episode and I loved it! Thanks for uploading
At 15:05 - can you imagine this segment being aired on the BBC or any channel now? Which is why this show is not repeated at Christmas time anymore. This was made in 2009, not that long ago to be honest, but it shows how a white man "blacked up" could be aired even in 2009. Madness. Utter madness.
@@steamfire This was before the term "woke" came into effect, and people were less inclined to take offence. In 2009, I think they felt the viewers would be sane enough to know that the hosts were shocked and didn't agree with what the man was doing. Now some would try and get Oz and Hugh cancelled and have their careers killed.
If people thought Hugh is annoying, he's got nothing on the young man at the Grouse... Jesus christ when they were debating about the mulled wine at the end, Oz had the look on his face as if he was going to punch out Hugh...
In this context it has nothing to do with black people, in ancient times it was used so as to hide identities and to scare of bad spirits, this is the context this application is in. If people are too ignorant to be able to differentiate applications then we as a world are in a great deal of trouble!
You only have to look at the reactions from Oz and Hugh to understand they were not happy with this, remember Hugh said he didn't he should be laughing. Remember this was filmed in 2009, where some rural villages in England still felt this was alright.

Yeah, I started the series cause of James, and he was insufferable and unpleasant throughout. Oz, though new to me, I'm staying for!
I love the raisin game, it wonderfully foreshadows Hughs performance on Taskmaster.
