- Unboxing and a really quick look at the Siglent SDS804X-HD. I have no qualms about calling this the best scope under $500. It simply is. Subscribe to more on this scope in a near future video.

I've been using this scope for about six weeks now. It is a fantastic beginner to intermediate scope. It smokes any other scope in the same price bracket, and can even outperform several scopes that are more expensive. It isn't perfect, of course, but it really does hit well above its weight class.
Yes, it's a great scope at a great price. I've really been enjoying mine. Did you do any "improvements"?
@@uni-byte, Not yet. I mostly work with ham radios and digital electronics (Arduino, etc). It has easily done everything I needed and was very easy to figure out. For Bode plots I use an external signal generator that uses the network. No need to use the special add-on module. The FFT feature is highly useful. I have gotten a ton of use out of it. IMHO this has fewer “quirks” than the equivalent Rigol and is a better performer.
Thank you, i had a choice between a DHO804 and the SDS804XHD. I went with this because the button layout and UI are less ridiculous, as well as better specs, mouse input, and this was 40 dollars cheaper! Crazy
You're welcome. How are you liking it so far?
Hi, I am deciding between the DHO914s and a SDS814x HD. I think I definitely want the sigilent model since I don’t really like the buggy stuff I’ve seen with the Rigol especially the big problem with the Bode plots, and I don’t really like its logic analyzer bugs, (or need to spend $400 for the probe lol) I am mainly going to use for analog circuits and debugging fairly low speed digital circuits. May try to eventually mess with some high frequency radio stuff in the future too. I would appreciate hearing your suggestion.
Thank you!
Hi Jake. In my opinion the Siglent is by far the better scope. The Rigol's sampling rate nearly cripples it when all 4 channels are enabled as the base sample rate is cut to 1/4, the UI looks terrible and does not make teh best use of the available screen space. That said, if compact size and a HDMI output are essential to you it might be the best choice but you'll be giving up quite a bit in terms of functionality, usability and stability.
@@uni-byte Awesome, I’m sold. Thanks for the reply!
@@JakeTheCake254 You are welcome.
Nice. I'm still shopping for a new bench scope. My Tek scope is an old analog from just after they started using transistors. I appreciate your reviews.
Thanks!
With firmware soon coming the Self Cal time is reduced to just a few minutes.
Good to know.
Nice! I have a siglent 1104x-e as well. I just get a Flea-scope to play with and put in my tool bag for simple testing.
Nice!
Funny you should mention the spring clips being missing. I discovered the same yesterday when looking for mine in my FNIRSI's scope accessories. They didn't include the springs.
Yeah, for some reason they don't tend to include them for probes rated at 100MHz or less.
Woah! Nice new toy sir!
Look forward to seeing it on the channel!
Thanks 👍
I just bought the yeapuke 1014. Something to learn on. Yay.
It's like the Fnirsi, right? It has all the basic functions and should be a great learning tool.
I got the springs with my 814. You should have reviewed the outside first, and the probes. The expandable feet are a joke, as the would easily fold in , it you lift and move the scope. The probes are pretty cheap, those of the rigol were much better. The handle feels like a 150€ scope, when using it.
Strange, I had the SDS1104X-E for 2 years and neve had an issue with the feet. Of course I don't move it that much. I'll look at the probes and feet in the next episode.
Any chance you now have a Rigol? Because those seem like some petty complaints when you consider the specs and features you get for $400. I also had an SDS1104X-E and frequently traveled with it - never had a single issue with the feet.
@@tomkatt2321 It also hase quite a list of issues. Some smaller, some bigger, and some just irritating. A load of features is kinda stupid , when they dont work that good. I also have no issues with the feat when i dont connect things on the back...
Super nice video and scope.
Only this new model has mouse control? or did previous scope also had opion to somehow controll it with mouse?
Most of the newer Siglent 2000 series and higher scopes have had mouse and touch control for a few years. Now, with the new SDS800X-HD and SDS1000X-HD scopes the lower end models have it too. I imagine you will see the older 1000 2000 series scope being phased out.
@@uni-byte Oh okej. Thank you for reply and info.
I would really love that this feature would be on SDS 1000 series as well.
Keep up good work :D
@@SQERS3 Thanks. There is a new SDS1000X-HD scope that has mouse/keyboard/touch and 12-bits. it has a nice big screen to.
Bad design look like a Rigol mso 5000, Black is not a good color for instruments.
Thanks for your coment.
The physical design follows that of the SDS1000X-E series and the UI design that of the SDS2000X-P and higher end scopes. In other words, not much like a Rigol at all, except they are roughly rectangular like pretty well all scopes. As for the black, you better tell that to Keysight, LeCroy, R&S, Rigol, etc., etc.. Pretty well everybody is moving to black. BTW, I also like the beige better, but it's not really pertinent as to how good the instrument is. So..
@@uni-byte why are you using light in the studied if it not needed ? 😎
@@janeriksoegaard3057 Not sure I get your meaning. There is no problem seeing the controls on this scope even in much less light than I have in my lab. So, what is your favorite scope?
I do not agree, I like the black design. It is much better then the white one
Nice....cheers.
Thank you! Cheers!
