    Dang Boss you just convinced me that I will be building all of my guitar cases from scratch and custom for each guitar. With what guitars cost even the cheaper end will be worth the work and besides it gives me a reason to use my wood and leather shops : ) which always makes me a happier camper. Also As I am reborn into my new guitar playing era of my life ( I was declared legally blind as of Friday the 13th of this year and So I have returned to my guitar for solace and something to do in the darkness. They bring out my soul and groove.
    I haven't felt these in many years out in the 9-5 world so I'm not sure if the blindness is a blessing or curse. But like most things in this life I guess it depends on how we take it and how openly, honestly, and truthfully we look at them in light of where we are and where we truly want to be.
    Not to say that I think anyone would choose to go blind after beholding Gods beauty in this world, but I'm not sure in my case that it ( going blind ) was all bad.
    I have to say that as a Grandparent It was much harder to loose my young Granddaughter in 2016 by far And to watch what it did to her father tore us apart.
    Sorry I go off on it sometimes.
    Great video you make many good points and I will use your knowledge when I build my cases for my guitars. Thanks again I will be watching ( or should I say listening ).

    So, which case is good for travel, from hot or freezing automobile trunks to train, bus and/or airline travel? I personally use the SKB and Gator injection or rotating mold ATA cases for the utmost in protection. I realize that there is no protection from the extreme forces put upon guitar cases in airline travel, but I do the best I can do. I also have Musicians Friend molded cases which do a pretty damn good job in protecting my guitars.
    The 3, 4 or 5 layer luan wood guitar cases that you use for your guitars are a little bit better than the gig bags you show. You must buy a form fitting case if you don't want your guitar to fall apart in the case. It is almost like seatbelts in a car, they hold you in so that you don't go flying about the interior while in a crash. Having the guitar NOT move about while in it's case is the best for the guitar.
    Please don't misrepresent what guitar cases can do and not do, and gig bags are not real guitar cases, that' why they are called 'gig bags'.

    My EVH guitar case left red stain in the ivory finish of my wolfgang special. Looks like pink marbling on the bottom edge and back of the guitar from the crushed velvety material. The towel is a good tip!

    I have a DBZ Barchetta (Killer Deal Alert) and bought the Barchetta case from Riff City. Both companies are great. That being said, the guitar doesn't want to sit properly in the case. When you line the body of the guitar up with the case, then the neck doesn't sit right in the neck pocket. If the neck sits correctly then the body's off somewhat. Maybe there have been some minor changes to the guitars, but not the cases yet?

    I got a hiscox hard case for my main guitar, which is a Les Paul. I used my case for my Les Paul recently, and took my guitar out of the case to realise that there was a couple grooves on a couple of the frets, which looked like the strings had been forced down on to the frets. The only thing I can think of that did this was the lid of my hard case pushing the strings forcing them into the frets. Also, when I put the lid down (with my main guitar in the case) the lid doesn't fully close before I push it all the way down and put the latches on, there's about an inch of space between the lid and the bottom half of the case. I don't know if that's supposed to happen, and that's probably what did the damage to the frets of my guitar

    Thanks for doing the video, very interesting. Good timing also as I am about to buy a hard case for my new semi hollow electric.BTW this guitar arrived from the US in a standard cardboard guitar shipping box but sadly some numpty had dropped it on the lower bout and smashed the metal tailpiece that attaches the bigsby type trem to the body.I think you would have to drop the guitar from a couple of feet to break the cast metal fitting into 2 bits. I know USA warehouse staff opened the box up and I think didn't bother to repack the guitar properly.Thanks again.

    Great video as always. I was never a fan of gig bags, but when I bought my Taylor 314ceG and it came with a taylor branded backpack style gig bag I was hooked. Excellent protection and damn convenient. It goes with me every Sunday to my gig. I have one for my T5z, and I spent the big bucks for a Reunion Blues gig bag for few of my assorted electrics. They are all higher end, but I have no fear with the RB case, it is outstanding protection. Check them both out.

    I have to get one of those Jackson gig bags for my king v. I own the Dean bag and although it does provide great protection from outside elements, the case itself is so clunky and unbalanced. It also has started to rip holes where the points of my V sit on the bottom. The outside is great but the inside material is subpar for the money Dean wants for a case like that. Well done video nonetheless TK! \m/

    • @therealtech833
      @therealtech833 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, you wouldn't want the case to be pressed down on the tremolo bar.
      If a trem bar is removable, it should never be put in the case with it on. The only exception would be like a bigsby type, there are cases with the cavity cut out for it.

  • @821KES
    @821KES 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have to comment on your G&G Case: If your guitar moves enough in the case to take a one inch hit it is obviously either the wrong size case or you have the wrong guitar in the case. G&L Guitars uses G&G Tolex cases for the USA Jerry Cantrell Signature Rampage, ( I own one )... The case is molded to fit the Rampage perfectly. The Rampages headstock is flat ( no tilt ). I tried moving my Rampage back and forth in the case, it seriously only moves about 1/4 of an inch if at all...you may want to try your Tribute Rampage in it instead.

    • @rNewkirk5
      @rNewkirk5 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      821KES G&G also mainly makes their cases for Fender's line of guitars as well. When ordering from the company website you have the option of four different fender guitars or "custom". I suspect that TTK's case may be sized for a Fender guitar (hence the issue with the angle of his headstock). I have one for my strat and it fits great.

    Oh almost forgot, One other thing I wanted to ask is do you have or could you recommend or make a video on how to Identify a guitar. I ask as I am looking at buying my wife a second hand guitar we need to rescue from a antique shop before it goes to someone who won't keep and treasure it as we will. I owe her so many anniversary and birthday gifts over the years ( it's just raising 5 kids was always payday to payday never enough of anything {we are a meld crew if you know what I mean her & mine })
    sorry anyway if you could help out. I'd like to know what type and model it is when I give it to her. Still watching : )

    I was given a generic case I don’t want to name it. Starts with a G. Idk if it’s from the store storing it in their moldy basement or what. But it smells horrible like chemicals or idk what. Ruins the whole experience. I don’t think it’s supposed to smell. Remember when u would get a new Fender if would smell great. SonI need to take it out and air it out all the time. It should’ve come with the brand name guitar case. And that’s why they’re gone and moved. Sadly, they were the only guitar store in a major city.

    I just don't see why people just don't buy a nice padded gig bag and place that into a hard shell case that's gutted. 😉

    hardcases will do more damage than to protect it
