Great video! :) I love such tricks! Meshuggah do something like this from time to time like in e.g. Broken Cog. But what they do is they trick you it's not 4/4 to later convince you, that it is 4/4 :)
Another cool trick I learned from Planet X in particular is from time to time Virgil switches from one version where the 1 is located to another version for the same riff, e.g. in Midnight Bell. So as a listener you think comfortable you know where the 1 is located, nodding head, and suddenly drums are telling you "Well, but you know, it could be also here, and it also makes sense" :)

Thanks for the comment, really glad you liked it! I'm a big fan of Meshuggah and even saw them live once. Some time ago I posted 2 videos inspired by their work, if you scroll down my video list you'll find them 😊

Very thoughtfully structured video on polyrhythm. It seems to come from a drummer´s perspective.
It would work as a good antidote against boring pop music rhythms. Unfortunately it is used too seldom.
I liked the build up of the melancholic chord sequence of example 3.
Not just explained well but also good musical ideas with a good sound choice.

Hey, thank you! That was a really beautiful comment, and I’m glad you liked it in several ways. I also feel like even using a little hint of those tricks often can make a big difference 💚

Sehr gut, Jannis. Interessante Erklärungen zu Beats jenseits des 4 on the floor Rasters. Hast du schon einmal Steve Reich gehört und dessen Interpretationen zu Microtimings? Besonders die ECM Recordings sind ein Meilenstein ... ;-)

This is perfect. Does your course reveal how you might sequence this live? I have a bastl mido looper which i use but has only 3 channels.
Is it humanly possible to make these beats live

Thank you 💚 The course is based on the idea of making rhythm more interesting. I'm starting with a dull beat, exploring and analyzing all instruments to see how the groove can become more musical and lively. It's totally possible to include those tricks into a live performance, but it really depends on the gear how to set it up. Therefore it's a bit tricky to make a general video about it.
