Space Invaders was the first coin-op arcade video game that I played in 1978 and I have always wanted a genuine home video game version. This might be the one that I might buy for myself for Christmas.
I'm hoping to get the Quarter Arcade Space Invaders for Christmas. They've been working on it for years trying to recreate the mirroring etc, but apparently it's now shipping!

Great review as always, Jon. Since the My Arcade 2020 Premium Edition was the original 1978 version of Space Invaders with the colorless/white aliens and green shields, I was hoping this one would be the 1979/1980 Part II/Deluxe version with the multi-colored aliens and red shields. From what I can tell, it doesn't appear to be included in the Pocket Player Pro either, which is a shame, considering it normally includes 2-3 different games. (The Galaga Pocket Player Pro also includes Galaxian, for example.)
Looking good. I already have the premium one, but have all these new ones pre-ordered. Hopefully if these do well a third wave could maybe see Frogger, Timepilot and Scramble....or who knows what else.🤞 Great review as always Jon.
I think I'd still personally prefer the premium one, just because of that authentic screen reflection setup. It's very cool to look at. Also! Here's hoping we can get some video of the new Pac-Man line from MyArcade. I'd love to see how the game is in there, and if it's similar to the Ms. Pac-Man one, which was excellent.
Love it. I have the premium but will pick this up as well. Glad the coin door is illuminated! The cabinet with graphics looks great and the gameplay graphics looks authentic. I noticed the sound anomalies as well. Not a deal breaker for me. :)
Awesome vid! I've always wondered what Space Invaders would look like as a standard cookie cutter cabinet, and to be honest it's not bad! The small improvements to the port is an amazing cherry on top.
I knew this video dropped over the weekend and just now getting to it. In my opinion that backdrop on the previous edition is what I remember playing that game in arcades. Would I be crazy to say I’d want both? Yes I would! Loved the review and thanks for the info.

Great review as per usual Jon. I was really impressed with the sound through the headphone jack ! Glad you put that in here. On thing I wonder about these mini arcade games is the stability of the unit on a desk or table top. You highlighted the rubber strips and how securely they keep the cabinet from sliding, but particularly with the recessed knee plate, does the unit have a tendency to pivot or topple forward when pressing the buttons or using the joystick ?
This thing's pretty cool. My favorite version will always be the 2600. Lot of fun and hours playing. Plus the fart sound when the invaders reach the bottom of the screen was great
It would have been a nice addition if you could alter the dip switches. Dip-switches on classic arcade games made slight changes to the game such as the number of starting lives, the number of coins to start, changing the difficulty, and setting the game on "Free Play" if the option was available. Also, going through my MAME ROMs, I had no idea how many bootleg game variants of Space Invaders there were.
I’m going to start collecting these, but mainly for game room decor. I love the way Micro arcades look, but my hands are just to big to actually play them lol
Thanks for asking. It's going to be tough to beat the 2020 Space Invaders for me (maybe the upcoming Numskull?) The game is pretty accurate plus the who mechanic for the reflection projected up on the moonscape is just next-level for a collectible toy like this.
Please review at least one of these three if you can: PAC-MAN Pocket Player Pro, PAC-MAN Micro Player Pro, and/or PAC-MAN Nano Player Pro! I'm an undeniably huge fan of PAC-MAN, and I wanna get one of these or maybe all three for Christmas, but it'd love to see your opinions on these new units! 😆
For some reason, everytime you huck up the pro players' outputs, it sounds really distorted. Do they sound distorted with normal headphones or is your set up to blame? Great video as always.
I didn't notice distortion myself, but I can tell you that I'm not overmodulated on my input during recording, so I'd say any sound quality you hear (at least with this review) is representative of the actual output. Thanks for watching!
My biggest wish for these is a light up marquee.. the top just looks unfinished in the current design.. the 2020 edition is superior in my opinion..bit bith are pretty dang cool
I already got the 2020 iteration based on your review and I think I’ll stick with that. This new one has that bass thump thats kind of lacking in the older one. But the premium has the cool depth perception effect its too bad they didn’t do it on this new one and have the best of both worlds

Decent overall. It's not a must have for me like the others, I have the Premium one but I will get this at some point in the future, or, if the Nano is comparable, I might get that. Thanks for the video.🎉
Thanx for another fantastic review. I agree with others, screen is way too small in proportion to the bezel. I’d pay the extra couple of dollars for a larger screen.

Firstly, thanks for watching - like you, I have fond memories of Space Invaders. As for the ads, WTF?! I didn't set up any number of ads at all - I just left it at whatever the default is! Dang it, TH-cam!
Software is the same. Just comes down to how you like to play. For portability, the Pocket is hard to beat, but for a nicer-looking tabletop unit for playing and displaying, the Micro is better.

I already have the premium one (picked it up on sale for $20 a while back, whoop!), so I probably won't buy this one. I'm not sure why they came out with this version since we already have the better premium one. I would have liked to see a premium Space Invaders 2 instead. Or what I would really love is for Micro Player to do Tempest.
This micro game pro of Space Invaders, is a no go for me. You just can't get any better than the much larger unit that actually has the moon ghosting effect. Thank you for uploading.

Space invaders pocket player,micro player,nano player,compact player, Then you can make pro lines of it,then ultra lines,then giga lines,peta lines,zeta lines,yeta lines, Then come with ultimate space invaders player, Space invaders family edition,special edition,etc,,, etc,,, And since i,ve already seen soooo many of those systems over the years,well you know what that all means to me,,, I have seen enough, It’s time to move forward.
To be honest, I think that this micro player is a downgrade from the 2020 version. I get that the audio may be better and it’s more affordable, but the 2020 version had that super cool reflected display, and was shaped just like the original cabinet. I think that I’m gonna stick with that one for now.
Why didn't they just use the MAME emulator on this system? Then they could have simply downloaded the original Space Invaders rom. You would then be playing the absolute ORIGINAL version.
The cost of required materials, as I understand it, is the limiting factor. What you describe can definitely be done, but would raise the price beyond what the market would bear.
Imagine a device that doesnt save high scores. SHHHH thank god this trash My Arcade weren't about in the 70s or 80s, there would be NO ARCADE as there would be no reason to compete.

I’ll probably stick with my Premium Space Invaders unit but the quality on the micro is high enough that I’m still tempted to get it!

Thanks Jon! Space invaders was the pioneer but Galaga saw them and raised them. Love the art work and may consider if high scores can be saved.

I bought the premium edition and I think I'll get this too. You have to look down at an angle for the premium model. Good 3d effect though.
Also, the Numskull model maybe real accurate but $300? I might as well buy the real arcade model instead.

I was certainly hearing some audio issues in the headphone port audio, there was crackling and other issues
good product i gave it 3 stars ..so pretty close! i hope they realese some other games in this format.......

For me the audio is a bit off. The sounds of certain games are burnt into my memory, with Space Invaders being one of those games.

Nice joystick, but I'd rather have a 2 button controller like the original cabinet had.
I'd like of like the two-button directional variant, too. But this is accurate to how Space Invaders was released originally in Japan.

Didn't the original arcade machine have left/right buttons, rather than a joystick..?
Yes. In North America, Space Invaders had directional buttons. The original cabinet in Japan had a joystick, however.
