I don't even have tegus but I love these vids! Especially the food prep! 🍻

I portion my baby tegu food in ice cube trays. I line it with plastic wrap and fill each cube and thaw as needed. He's now up to a whole cube of food per day.
I thought my 3 year old was overweight, turns out he's not I'm just paranoid 😅 he's picky too.
I wish I could find a grinder cheap like you did for chicken bones.
Thanks for the fruit tips, I didn't know they could have apples!

Ice cube trays work great, we did that when we didnt have so many. Check as often as you can on facebook marketplace or other similar sites, and you will find a good deal eventually. Thanks for watching!

Another brilliant video buddy! The hero of the tegu community right here 😃💪🏻👊🏻
Also, I think the sunflowers are an interesting idea. There was a study done on the gut contents of wild tegus and the majority was actually seeds and insects with whole prey only making up like 20% of it or something. Not sure on the exact numbers but I wanna say Laura Roberts was part of the study.

    • @RoseCityReptilesTX
      @RoseCityReptilesTX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I remember that study. I think nuts and seeds are definitely part of their diet in the wild. Always learning and evolving. Sunflower seeds are a good source of vitamins and minerals.

@@RoseCityReptilesTX and healthy omega fats! I think it’s a great idea to try it out. Another thing to note on the seeds as well, is what classifies fruits, is internal seeds so those seeds could also mean higher fruit content as well.
Last year my male would dig up dandelions and eat the flowers, bulbs, and roots to them so I think there’s definitely evidence there. I just found me a grinder on market place today so I’m gonna give the mashes another shot! My guys wouldn’t touch it last year. Frustrating lol

If you're thinking you don't want to spend money on a grinder, you can do this with a cheap food processor too. If you've got more than a couple of tegus you'll want to invest in the grinder. I also raise my own quail from eggs every year which gives me free meat and eggs to use in my tegus food

They eat seeds and nuts in the wild. In Florida they eat a ton of palm nuts! I have started adding some seeds and nuts in my food mixes and plan to do more in the future. I will do a video exclusively on this topic once I have more experience with it.

Loralie doesn't eat fruit. I offer it but she only eats ground turkey, salmon, super worms, and hornworms. And on occassion steak when we have it.
    Antiope seems to eat everything!
She is so much more confident than Loralie too.
Is ground beef and steak ok?
What about eggs? I saw on another video/channel eggs should be hardboiled or scrambled.
They eat raw eggs in the wild.

So happy she made it to you safely! We were worried sick all weekend and calling fedex non-stop (they were not very helpful). She has her dad's confidence! She is going to be a great tegu. I feed eggs scrambled, hardboiled and raw. Red meat can be fed on occasion but not as a staple.

@@RoseCityReptilesTX I called Fed EX everyday too. I couldn't wait to get home and take her out, I took her out in the truck. She was already escaping! She tore through the bag, paper, and was working on the styrofoam when I opened the tape. She startled me.
I heated up the truck, had a bigger container, warm blankets, water. I put her on my chest in the truck until she warmed up.
She ate twice already and drank water.
I put grub pie and cut up blueberries in case she is hungry tonight.
A couple weeks ago, Loralie was hanging out on my shoulder, jumped on the counter and bit the raw filet mignon. So I gave her a piece.
