There are actually two reigon locked yoshi costumes, those being the Famicom and Super Famicom Yoshis, which replace the NES and SNES Yoshis in Japan. The only way to access these in the game is to load the costume onto an amiibo and scan it in the other reigon game.
Awesome aniibo collection! A question, if you go to the world select screen from the pause menu, do you see next to the number of amiibo cosumtes unlocked a golden star which also appears next to other stats that are completed 100%? Thank you.

I guess why no star is either because they didn't want people to feel forced that they need to scan so many amiibo for completionism and/or they wanted to keep the possibility of more scanable amiibo being always open and then a star marking completion wouldn't quite fit.
call me a die hard fan, but my i just wanted to see cloud in a yoshi skin to see how cute and edgy the skin would be. just for the fun of it anyways. i know it would never happen due to him being part of square enix.
I prefer the 3DS version of the game. It has 31 more Amiibo costumes that aren’t in the original Wii U version, it has Pencil Stamps instead of Miiverse Stamps, which can be used to craft your very own Yoshi designs, you can change Poochy’s design with the Yarn Poochy Amiibo, and Mellow Mode gives you 3 Poochy Pups that act as yarn balls, which can be used infinitely, and they’ll show you were hidden items are when you get close to their locations.

The ones with differently-colored sclera (or eye whites) are cooler. Specifically, Spooky and Meta Knight Yoshis.

there are 55? amiibo costumes that I see, and no star.

I kinda like the woolly-less yoshi design, it kinda reminds me of a balloon animal

Yes. You scan any yoshi amiibo in the game as a helper, then he will appear.
