The true DEATH of Cartoon Network

- Cartoon Network was once heralded as the pinnacle of animated entertainment, distinguishing itself from other channels with a lineup of groundbreaking shows that have since become timeless classics. Iconic series such as "Dexter's Laboratory," "The Powerpuff Girls," "Johnny Bravo," "Samurai Jack," and later hits like "Adventure Time" and "Steven Universe" not only captivated audiences but also pushed the boundaries of storytelling and animation. These shows are still celebrated by fans worldwide, reflecting the channel's significant impact on popular culture.
However, the landscape began to shift dramatically in the 2020s, particularly after the major corporate merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc., which resulted in the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery. This merger led to substantial organizational changes, budget cuts, and a reevaluation of content strategies across all subsidiaries, including Cartoon Network. The channel has faced challenges such as the cancellation of anticipated projects, reduction in original programming, and a noticeable shift toward repurposing content for streaming platforms like HBO Max.
These upheavals have contributed to what many perceive as a steep decline in Cartoon Network's influence and quality as both a channel and a brand. Longtime fans have expressed concerns over the diminished focus on innovative and creator-driven content that once defined the network. Additionally, internal restructuring has led to layoffs and departures of key creative personnel, further impacting the channel's ability to produce compelling new animations.
Today, I want to explore in-depth the various factors that have led to Cartoon Network's current struggles. This includes examining the corporate decisions made in the aftermath of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, the impact of shifting consumer viewing habits favoring on-demand streaming services over traditional cable television, and the increasing competition from other networks and platforms investing heavily in original animated content.
Moreover, I aim to discuss how these challenges facing Cartoon Network may be indicative of broader issues within the animation industry. With financial pressures and corporate consolidation affecting creative freedom and investment in new projects, there's a concern that other studios and creators might encounter similar obstacles. The potential homogenization of content and prioritization of profitability over innovation could lead to a stagnation in the industry, affecting not just networks but the future of animated storytelling as a whole.
By analyzing these developments, we can gain insight into the delicate balance between business decisions and creative endeavors in the animation world. Understanding the root causes of Cartoon Network's decline may shed light on what is needed to preserve the vibrancy and diversity of animated entertainment for future generations.

what started was fun and magic. but greed killed the magic. on CN. Disney and even Nickelodeon! this is why i watch old cartoons and it was way more fun than the new ones.
Soon we'll be able to make our own cartoon network shows and become the new generation that has no greed or merge involvement!
I look forward to that future!
Agreed on the first point. Greed did make CN stagnant. But the last shows they’d made weren’t very good either.
To the second point, I’d agree. Just look at indie animation: Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, TADC, Long Gone Gulch, Hullabaloo, Lackadaisy, so many indie cartoons from young and old animation fans that likely were inspired. Growing up watching Nick, CN, and Disney. Some cartoons have even made it to streaming, while others are funded through fans and TH-cam. We really are entering a new renaissance of indie animation.
@garrettviewegh9028 these indie animations are nothing but controversial and drama. I'm more into wacky and fun and toon force. Not drama or horror or foul mouth.
I swear these indies are nothing but trouble that hurt friends and family.
Do you know cartoon Network is not dead right I know it's different but it'll get better
The biggest problem is that in the past they had creative freedom and nowadays they need to make more childish shows without that "maturity" that good shows had, as is the case with the original Teen Titans.
I know, it really sucks
@@FusionFallOrg Even back then, shows that were aimed at 5-year-olds like Backyardigans were well-made shows.
@@FusionFallOrg Even more childish shows like Backyardigans were well done
@@nostalgica3609 in past: I'd like to make a cartoon about a superhero! Great! you're hired! but if the show is not wow enough we'll cancel it! don't blame us!
Future: I'd like to make a cartoon about a superhero! before we put your superhero show. you better sign here that we'll own your cartoon and stuff as long as you make it as "We" want instead of "You" want.
What?! but why ?! i put my heart and soul to this new cartoon! you can't do that!!
too bad so sad. that's the way of the new era! get us money and get us what we want or you'll never make a new cartoon ever again!
Way too much AI.
I agree. Almost all of it seems to be AI. But, the Retrobution team seems to be a small group of people. What can you do? But, I do agree, the execution could’ve been better with some still images, graphics, some transitions, and good editing.
Rest in Paradise CN…❤
Great video though. Keep it up!

Thanks for the kind words TheSharpAF! 🙏
CN City, perhaps Cartoon Network’s best era. And even then, they hadn’t peaked yet. Feels like that’s where Fusionfall takes place. Back then, that was *our* MCU. Still, it’s unfortunate that while we can go back and view CN’s best shows, they’re all split apart on different platforms. PPG is on Netflix, while Johnny Bravo is on Apple TV. Not all in one place. Someday, I aim to show my kids CN’s cartoons. Some of the best shows the West ever made.
damn.. still missing old cartoon network..

Turns out, Planet Fusion was just a ruse for the real villains that would destroy Cartoon Network: Warner Bros Discovery.
Honestly, I'll always love og CN. - Taylen
