    8 years later, that claw is probably $12.

    Landed on this by mistake, ... and ended up watching the whole video. Absolutely fascinating - I would never have thought that fly larvae could be so interesting! Great video.

    Karl Warkomski - Black Soldier Fly Wormskis. This is awesome. Getting ready to see how much pods cost / build one. I just put out some corrugated cardboard banded together in a box over some dog food / water mix. Can't wait to check it for eggs. My wife's already raising these things. Just need to get / make a bin so they crawl out for the chickens to eat. I think we were trying to feed the chickens the pupae - and they didn't care for 'em. Or maybe they like to hunt based on movement - like the T Rex, according to the movie, or like fish and mosquito larvae.

    I do this with tools.
    I have 11 pairs of lineman's pliers.
    Never have to go looking for them.
    I have one in particular that is larger size. We call it "the chomper."
    It can cut anything that will fit in it.
    Had it for decades.

    Once again I would like to point out for the importance of one work with EM-4 that are anaerobic yeast and bacteria that will address the bad odor. SO easy to do it yet so neglected.

      could you explain what makes EM-4 unique and why it's particularly good at dealing with the odor? Also, where would one be able to source it?
      saludos desde Mexico!

    Can you have compost worms and soldier fly in the same bin?
    I have an Aerobin 200 composter bin and inadvertently attracted BSF, which is great, but you said their finished product is not compost. I love how they break down larger foods quickly which seems like it would be a good partner with worms.

      im pretty sure its fine, worst case scenario you would want to give it to the worms after the bsf have their turn

    Do you feed the larvae from the coffee grounds to chickens? I've read that coffee is toxic to chickens. Thanks.

    Hello. Love the information you are providing about the BSF. My question is regarding a local pest we have in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia called European wasps. Do you ever have them affect the BSF in a detrimental manner? Would wasp baits kill the BSF? Thanks

    Can BSF eat Duck Weed as a consistent diet?

    I understand coffee grounds are not a good source of food for BSF larva, but is it good at attracting mature BSF?

    • @johncspine2787
      @johncspine2787 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, coffee grounds ARE a good food source..in fact, they can subsist on them..

  • @magiclay

    so bsf grows on coffee?

    • @fattdamon1980

      they eat anything in terms of food waste that you would normally compost. he just used the coffee because it was free

    Will they eat kitty litter? If dampened .

    • @cmebeth
      @cmebeth ปีที่แล้ว

      Used litter is not good for worms, especially if you treat your cats with flea/tick medicine that kill the larvae. That mess passes through and can kill the worms you're trying to farm (earthworms, BSF grubs, etc.)

    So you just said... if it's to smelly throw it in your composter... what if my composter got grubs?? And it's producing liquid. Plus the composter is a tumbler

    Will they eat fresh manure?

  • @lelegurame

    Anaerobic not always produce foul smell. Remember that alcohol beverage fermentation is anaerobic. It depends on the bacteria if you use probiotic, it doesn't produce foul smell. Read about EM Bokashi by Prof. Teruo Higa

    Would you guess the topic was about BSF if you heard these statements?
    -They can handle the claw
    -Look at the wiggle
    -It opens up the matrix
