The clearing of the stands into dugout and clubhouse levels for a tornado siren is not a response out of panic. It was the planned safey procedure and is a pretty good plan. Obviously, fans are free to leave if they want but providing shelter underground is probably your safest bet. Barring a worst case scenario (in which theres no way to survive conditions), sheltering under ground level will be your best option to survive. Kudos to those employees and fans acting calm under pressure with a literal siren blaring at them!

Now I'm trying to find what game it was though, since I remember a vid of the Cubs having a warning, as well as the Rockies having an actual tornado near Coors mentioned on the radio broadcast, though there's a great vid about tornadoes and stadiums, I forget who it is buy but it mentions the Birmingham Barons and how close they came to being hit. Not baseball but the same happened to Iowa State and their CFB team delaying a game vs Colorado. The late 2011 super outbreak of tornadic activity in the Texas/Oklahoma/Missouri area was no joke. Glad the stadium in Arlington (Dallas-Fort worth metro) area wasn't hit by that storm. Looks like it did a lot of damage to other communities. Hope this info helps!

Thankfully minimal damage and loss of life occurred in the city and surrounding area. When I went to college, I worked for the athletic department which allowed me to travel with the baseball team. Two of the craziest things that happened were:
    1. We were away at a D1 school more known for their academics than their athletics at the time (but have since become a baseball powerhouse.) It had rained all night and they were trying to dry the field off. They tried to pour gasoline on the infield dirt and rake it out after they set it on fire, but left the gas can in the middle of the field where they just lit the gas. Thankfully somebody grabbed it just before the fire reached it and an explosion happened.
    2. Playing at home against another D1 team, but a storm came up after batting practice but before the game started. Because their team manager took off with the team bus, and a locker room wasn’t available, they were stuck staying in the dugout. A small tornado came through knocking down the outfield fence and several trees behind the outfield while all they could do was huddle in the dugout. Thankfully they were all ok..

Maybe not so crazy, but the Pittsfield Suns have regular "sun delays". Their ballpark is the historic Wahconah Park, built in 1919. At this ballpark, the batter is facing due west. Back when baseball was a day game, there were no problems. But now that games are regularly played in the evening, they will have a 30-40 minute sundelay as the sun sets, to prevent blinding batters. This is, in other words, a guaranteed and predictable weather delay.

6:28 That was how it ended not how it started. Originally Michael Sergio, who pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal trespassing, was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a $500 fine for landing in Shea Stadium with a 'Let's Go, Mets' banner. The judge sentenced him by reading a parody of the night before christmas that she wrote that goes as follows...
The judge's poem was titled, 'Ode to Criminal Trespass.'
'Twas the sixth of the series, when out of the sky,
flew Sergio's parachute, a Met banner held high.
His goal was to stir our home team to success,
burst Beantown's balloon, playing tough with the best.
The fans and the players cheered all they did see,
but not everyone present reacted with glee.
Reckless endangerment, the D.A. spoke stern,
I recommend jail, there a lesson he'd learn.
'Though the act proved harmless, on the field he didn't belong.
His trespass was sheer folly and undeniably wrong.
But jail's not the answer in a case of this sort.
To balance the equities is the job of this court.
So a week before Christmas, here in the court,
I sentence defendant for interrupting a sport.
Community service and a fine you will pay.
Happy holiday to all and to all a good day.
    www.upi.com/Archives/1986/12/19/Judges-sentencing-is-poetry-to-parachutist/5764535352400/
Then in May of 87 he was held in contempt for refusing to name the pilot and also paid an 18,000 fine

17:00 The same thing happened in a 3-STORY CAR PARKING LOT 10 minutes from where I live. When the firefighters arrived they couldn't believe that there was no fire hose or fire extinguishers in an indoor car park, one vehicle that caught fire ended up burning more than 300 vehicles and causing the third floor to collapse.

We had a skunk come on the ball field not just once but twice this year during a game. They stopped play til the skunk left the field. Bad part was the Staduim is local on a Island in the middle of a river. It's the Home of the Double A farm team of the Nationals named the Harrisburg Senators

Quick little anecdote about the Portland pickles game where the lights went out. The stadium is Walker Stadium. It was renovated by the city of Portland and is operated by the city of Portland parks department that stadium is one of a small handful of fields that the men’s rec league uses in the spring and summer. We pay to play. We generate a lot of money for those fields based on our player fees. When the playoffs rolled around this year, I noticed that during each game at Walker Stadium the chalk looked worse and worse, So I made a small gripe to my coach. Hey, pretty week that the city isn’t chalking our field for the playoffs he agreed so he made a call to the city the following day, and he did get a response. The person told him that the guy who knows how to chalk lines was on two week vacation and nobody else knew how to chalk the fields I’m guessing only one guy knows how to turn on the lights there, too. He left in the ninth. Promise.

I used to play Old-Time Base Ball (yes , it's two words) using the 1861 original seventeen rules.NO GLOVES ! We wore period uniforms and had hand turned wood custom bats.
One of the best teams we played was in Greenfield Village in Dearborn (outside Detroit) . They had an actual steam train that ran around the Village & right past the ballfield. The custom was as the train went by it would slow down and blow it's whistle and the players and fans would doff their caps and wave to the passengers on the train. Okay - first time , fine . It was a novel thing . But over the course of the game this went on AT least a half a dozen times with the engineer starting a cheer for the home team (sponsored by the Village) . This got OLD - QUICK. Every other inning that damn train went by and stopped the game so the crowd could root against us.

I know this video is 5 months old but for the rain delay at Yankee stadium when the woman was just creepily smiling like that. That was actually for a promotion for an upcoming horror movie called "Smile" that released later that year. I believe they hired a bunch of people and bought them seats behind home plate for a game and smiled exactly like that one time.

The solution to fans rushing the field to attack coaches and players is simple. There are two dugouts full of both people who swing baseball bats for a living and baseball bats. Just employ said professional baseball players wielding baseball bats and put an end to the attack as soon as it starts. As soon as Giancarlo Stanton sends a big swing into the head of some dipshit who stormed the field and hit a coach or a player, nobody will ever storm the field again.

I was at two of the Brewers weird delays. The fireworks with the roof closed, which baffled everyone. There was also a time when a popcorn stand lit on fire and there was smoke billowing out of the area it was in, everyone stayed seated and they just kind of waited for somebody to put it out.
