    A little note that might need to be investigated, I believe Safariland has two different screw heights depending on the holster you buy. I believe the duty holsters are drilled and tapped lower on the holster body (making it sit higher on the mount) than the military/ tactical line of holsters being drilled towards the top (making it sit lower on the mount like you prefer). Something ive noticed looking at my 6354DO which was their military line compared to the 6360RDS and my old 6280 which are duty line. Also, Safariland has literature explaining their military/ tactical line not really designed for LE retention needs based on a 140psi breakaway jump rating. Hope this information helps navigating the already cryptic Safariland product line.

      I noticed the ride height difference as well. The 6354DO and 6384rds have mounting holes that set the holsters lower than my 6354rds and 6360rds holsters. It's the difference between needing a Mid-ride or Low-ride UBL on my body and belt.
      I will double check the holster numbers and edit when I can put hands on the holsters. Safarilands naming system doesn't lend any favors to my memory.
      Edit: 6354DO and 6384rds holsters are the same "military hole pattern"
      6354RDS, 6360RDS and 6390RDS have "police hole pattern" which are lower and canted rearward making the holster ride higher and tilted forward.
      Side note: mounting the "police hole pattern" holsters on the thumb shield holes as shown in the video puts the holster in the same orientation as the "military hole pattern". Hope that is helpful to someone.

    I had to mount my 6390rds like you do after switching from the 6354 DO. The holes are unfortunately in different parts on the two holsters and I didn’t like how high it rode on my hip after having the 6394 for so long.

    A lot of people aren't aware of this about the Safariland ALS holsters, but I discovered it by buying both versions when I was a police officer. They make both a Duty and "Concealment" version (it doesn't conceal worth a shit but bear with me) of the ALS holsters. The concealment version comes with a paddle and 567BL belt loop that rides really close to the body. The only difference between the two is the 3 hole mounting is up high on the holster instead of down low like on the duty model, and they are quite a bit cheaper to buy as well. For instance, the 6378RDS concealment model is under $100. It would pair really well with the QLS and the 6072UBL that Jon is using in pretty much the same way without sacrificing the 3rd screw hole. I actually see a lot of guys run the concealment version on the mid ride UBL and it winds up riding stupid low because they didn't realize it had a different mount point than the duty holsters they are seeing on TH-cam with the leg strap. If you can make sense of Safariland's confusing catalog of parts you can come up with a perfect setup.

    • @SeanTownsendStormrider
      @SeanTownsendStormrider 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also worth mentioning that the 7TS series that are made of Safariland's injection molded plastic they are trying out have both sets of mounting holes on both models. Opinions vary on those, some like it and some think it feels cheap.

  • @Goldenwithaleash
    @Goldenwithaleash 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice. I messed around with building the “perfect” belt setup forever until I finally landed on two. One is a HSGI Slim that I have fully kitted out and the other is a Blue Alpha inner/outer that is more slick. Both have the Safariland QLS mid system so I can use the same holster. It’s worked well for me in various classes and training. I know the HSGI padded grippy type belts have fallen out of favor recently but I like to be able to throw it on quickly and not mess with a inner Velcro belt. The slim version is nice as it’s not as tall/wide/bulky as the original belts.

    • @DevilFrog
      @DevilFrog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      man, I like good kit (which translates into high $$), but GBRS is just ridiculous w/their pricing; if that price tag was for something truly innovative or otherwise "that damn good", then ok... but for what it is, $260 is simply a money grab. Not saying it sucks, but it's just not that good. Same thing w:their slings.

    • @shawnpickering3084
      @shawnpickering3084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DevilFrog I agree it’s a little on the pricey side but it’s only 30-40$ more than a ferro bison and you get the inner belt cover which turns it into an edc belt so it’s a 2 in 1 deal. It’s definitely not for everyone but it’s a very lightweight and thin but stiff belt. I have one of their slings and it’s not anything innovative or really different but I think it’s a high quality piece of gear and it’s also half the price of some other well known brands. I run a ton of other slings like lunar concepts, ferro, vickers, forward control and they really all do the same thing. I appreciate the comment, I always enjoy hearing others ideas and experiences with kit

    • @DevilFrog
      @DevilFrog 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shawnpickering3084 Maybe I should take a second gander at it and reconsider; I'm used to a stiffer belt w/a bit more structure, and this one has been reviewed as being a bit too loose (even w/the inner belt). How has it worked for you in comparison to the others which you may have (I have HSGI and SafeLife... my loadout would be that of a duty/patrol belt). Has the "Inversed" soft velcro held up well? Based on their chosen mollie attachment design, do the attachments stay on there tight and snug, or do they sag a bit?

    • @shawnpickering3084
      @shawnpickering3084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DevilFrog I’ve used the safe life and the kore essentials duty/tactical belts which I do like but I prefer the gbrs. It’s much slimmer. It feels more like a regular belt than a “battle belt” in terms of the profile which is a good thing, very high speed low drag type belt. I don’t find any of my stuff sagging but I don’t run a ton on my belt, just double pistol pouch single rifle, holster and med kit. I run a true north holster adapter and a 6390rds safariland, it stays put in the Tigris molle slots. I actually like the reversed Velcro because if you don’t line the belt up perfect it doesn’t scratch you at all. Again I think there’s value in being able to run the belt as an everyday belt and just tear off the cover when you get to the range and throw the actual duty/range setup on. Like I said everyone likes different shit but give it a second look you might actually end up liking it

    Why is copy-catting so frowned upon?
    If you take good information like you put out in all your gear videos a person has the chance to try concepts and either utilize or modify as necessary for their own uses.
    I took one of my old belt and PC systems and created a dedicated "copy-cat rig" (T&E rig if I want to sound fancy) where I can try everyone's set up without changing my dedicated duty rig to develop a better understanding of what the most ideal set up is for me and my own particular use case.
    I will definitely be trying out the qls fork on a pouch and the mount of your holster since as sparda1123 commented the hole locations and cant are different across the lines of safariland holsters. Definitely need a video dedicated to that topic since their number system is useful as long as you have the information on their differences.
    Edit: I took a minute to fondle my holsters (not that I needed an excuse just nice to have one when the miss catches you).
    The 6354DO and 6384RDS holsters are the same "military hole pattern"
    The 6354RDS, 6360RDS and 6390RDS have "police hole pattern" which are lower and canted rearward making the holster ride higher and tilted forward.
    Side note: mounting the "police hole pattern" holsters on the thumb shield holes as shown in the video puts the holster in the same orientation as the "military hole pattern".
    Yes I have a problem but Holsters Anonymous is for quitters..
    Hope that is helpful to someone.
