One of the toughest losses for the Dolphins I ever saw. Had the game won after not playing the best. Too many turnovers that day. Seattle in 1983, similar to the Patriots in the 1985 playoffs, made people pay for those turnovers.
finman 1980 Also, at the time, it ranked as one of the biggest playoff upsets in nfl history. Miami may have overlooked Seattle and was thinking about the LA Raiders...but a year later, they were ready for a better Seattle team and beat them handily. 80's NFL was something special.
Damn, I remember watching this as an 11 year old and bawling my eyes out at the end! Thought we had it won when Bennett scored in the 4th quarter to make it 20-17
I actually remember this game well...I was sitting in the stands. The rain and cold weather mixed together and the loss made it miserable...great, great work here, amazing channel!
Went to this game. Turnovers killed us. Last game I went to in the OB. Also David Overstreet’s last game as he was killed in the offseason. Beat these same Seahawks in playoffs following year 31-13 (I believe) in way to SB
I didn't follow the 1983 season too much,I was 14 at time,I missed this game and glad I did.The loss in AFC Championship 2 years later against New England was far worse and disappointing than this loss could ever be.It was the end of the dolphins in 80's and faded into mediocrity for a long time. From 1970 to 85 they were one of the winningest teams
Looking at this game again and if they win here and could pull one out vs the Raiders the following week, Miami would've been in the Super Bowl three years in a row. Defense was still good too in '83 as Arnsparger was still running it and they hadn't stayed to slip like they did late in the 1984 season. In 1984, losing Overstreet in the tragic car accident and then Andra Franklin with the knee injury severely hurt the running game, which would've been great to have with Marino and the passing game that year. Plus a good run game would've kept the D off the field more late in that year when the decline started on that side of the ball.
I can assure you Dolphins fans that us Seattle sports fans know suffering as well as close losses and losses to teams we should of beat. The Supersonics I believe in 94 were favored to go all the way and we were upset by the lowly Nuggets with Mutombo. Losing our Sonics to a shady Clay Bennett who lied about his intentions of keeping our team in Seattle hurt badly. Howard Schultz the CEO/Founder of Starbucks pretty much betrayed his fellow Seattlites. He NEVER should of been an owner. All but gave the team away. Anyways respect Miami. The 80's were great.
Lived in Seattle all of my 63 years and you hit the nail on the head with your post. I'll never forget this game, and the excitement of the pub I was watching it in. A total upset. Yes, the Sonics got hosed by Howard Schultz and then the PIG DOG Clay Bennett. What is even more frustrating was NBA Commish David Stern's personal determination never to see a NBA team in Seattle the remainder of his tenure. Thankfully he's gone. Yes, the 80's were the greatest era for sports fans!
I can't help but wonder what if. WHAT IF we had taken HOF defensive back Darrell Green in the '83 Draft instead of Marino ? Green was the very next player selected after Marino.
Woodley and Strock helped get us to the '82 S.B., so they probably could have done the same in '83 with the addition of Green. Marino only helped us get 13 pts. until very late in that Seattle game after our D intercepted Kreig on his own 17 yd. line.We then scored to make it 20. In between all of that we had 4 punts and Dan was intercepted twice.

Marino was just an odd guy in big playoff games -
@@JT-zh1ozodd comment since Marino never got the chance late in this game to do anything. And since his defense always fell apart in the playoffs

One of my best football memories as a kid. Really the first time the Seahawks stepped onto the national stage as a franchise.
I remember this game as kid it was a over cast rainy day in South Florida. Really tough loss for the fins. I had a hard time getting over this one 🤔😞
You got revenge after the 1984 season.

The greatest win in Seahawks young history
love these highlights..keep em coming
6:18 "And whatever chance the Dolphins may have had is now gone." Brutal game

This is the game that, according to Chuck Knox, "sold Seattle on its Seahawks."

We could have traded for a starting QB eventually.
It happened in alternative universe I watched it🤗
