varies on the size and complexity, a simple map like Gael could take upto a few hours mainly from all the static meshes, texturing, getting elevators to work, making sure u die if u fall through the hole in the middle etc. if you know how exactly you want your map to look it'll probably take only a quarter of the time though, the map in the video would have taken ages im guessing (how long did it take SONY56KUKPRO?). small indoor maps with just a few rooms though can take only about 10 minutes
i know its been a year since u sed, but have u got UnrealED with ur UT2004? and its quite difficult to learn software, ya best bet would be to do what i did and look up the step by step tutorial on youtube, the guy who uploaded them is called something like 104Sargeisms, starting with the basics. good luck
@SONY56KUKPRO at some point i wanna make a map of the sarlacc from Star Wars Return of the Jedi, sides all sandy hills and you have to jump from ship to ship, and if you fall u definately land in sarlaccs mouth without getting stuck on side or anything, and with the health depleting really slowly inside it.
it'll take a while, 1stly try and make very basic indoor maps, terrain is a pain in the ass to mess about with too much, and outdoor maps require taking ages making the sky look authentic with proper lighting and stuff, learn one thing at a time and u'll get there.
