    I had 65 - ply satellite, 361 auto 2bbl. I totally loved that car! It was black, no A/C. I drove it for years. Bought it in Milwaukee, drove it to Texas, then to CA. Those were the days!

      It has 30k mikes on it. I would be surprised if it has been restored.

      +Bob Stinson Might be a really well kept one, but it has a 'high end' paint job. It's been done with a base coat / clear coat. Modern method. Chrysler and Ford both used enamel paint back then. GM used lacquer because it was faster even with the buffing out. Had a much higher gloss but it was more brittle, so more prone to chips. Ain't no free lunch, as they say. They only way to get a clear coat was from a real pro, one that did custom paint. Actually knew a guy that would paint black enamel using a heated pot. Boy it was dangerous, but this man could put paint on a car that you could walk into.

    One sweet old Sallite if I've ever seen one. 426 wedge. Doesn't get much better than that. Mopar or no Car.

    I had one. The wedge had blown and put a 383 with some work and that motor did a fine job. It was my daily driver and got rid of it when the 79 fuel crises hit.

    I inherited my grandmothers 65 satellite hardtop, it had the poly 318 motor and the same automatic Consol and interior as this beautiful 426 golden commando car. I still have the original contract (one single page) $2,612. My grandpa paid cash at Barker, Plymouth and Dodge in Eugene Oregon.

    A beautiful car, but I think the 1964 Sport Fury convertible was the best year for Plymouth. It was smart of Chrysler Corp to keep the mid-size car in 65 when they came out with the full-size Plymouth to compete with full-size Chevy and Ford. It was an interesting time in car marketing and design when all the makes had a compact, mid-size and full size but each size got larger with each succeeding generation. Love that paint color on the Satellite.

      The reason mopar came out with a full size car in 65 was that Chrysler got wind that Fordand Mercury were coming out with the senior compacts namely the Fairlane and Meteor and down sized their full sized cars in 62 to.compete with them. When they did this sales tanked and it took them 3 years to catch back up. 65' were true mid size cars.

    Mid 60's Chrysler products had frumpy styling and good power trains . Hard to beat a big block rag top .

      Even earlier than that, sone of the “letter” Chrysler New Yorkers put out big horsepower. But because they are full size luxury cars (sometimes weighing over 5000 lb), they don’t get the respect they deserve.

    BACK IN 1968 i HAD SAME CAR IN TEAL COLOR CONVERT..ALSO FOUND A 1965 POLARA WITH SAME DRIVETRAIN..THAT ONE WAS RARE..EXCEPT BOTH OF MINE WERE 4 SPEEDS..

    I had a '65 Plymouth Belvedere with a big block 318. It was kind of salty. It held it's own pretty good.

      Big block 318? I thought the 318 was a small block...but...even though I know a good bit about muscle cars, I still get suprised every now and again...

      it's common to hear, RE: the '318 bb' story..but was not so. it was the same size externally as a later 318 ci. the old mills did have a diff cyl. head, poly-spherical combustion chambers, rather than the later wedge type. both sweet mills.

    If anyone is to use this as a street cruiser you MUST convert the front brakes to disc's. A single tank master cylinderand drums all around will be VERY unsafe for a street car. The conversion is an easy one and will not ruin the car inany way as it is a bolt on job. IF you are going to make this a garage queen and tow to shows, leave it stock. I have built many of these cars over the years and have changed out the front brakes on every one with no changein value but a vast change in safety. I put all the stock front brake parts in a box when I sold the car.

      Paul Rose. I use to go 114 mph through the quarter and never thought twice about the master cyl. Brake fade was the biggest issue. Who cares about safety when your young. LOL

      I have a 67 Charger 383 cu, 335 hp with drum brakes all around, a single master cylinder and I have no problem stopping the car safely. I guess those of us that grew up on drum brakes learned/knew how to use them safely. I’m old enough now to know the strip is the safest place to drag race where you don’t have the chance of someone pulling out in front of you and having to jump on the brakes to avoid them. Just a note. My first car only had a single master cylinder and one day I came up to make a right turn off a boulevard on to a side street. I put on the brakes and immediately a wheel cylinder blew out. The peddle dropped to the floor so I applied the emergency/parking brake and even though I only had rear breakers, was able to make the right turn safely and used the emergency brake to drive 2 more blocks home . Parked in the driveway without crashing through the garage door. I was taught when you are driving to expect anything to happen and to be ready to handle it. That’s something it seems most drivers nowadays aren’t taught.

    I'm guessing that the painted engine bay saved money by not wasting time on doing the fire wall in Black . It looks great and might have been for a cost issue not a stork of genius.

    Nice paint work on that baby looks like u could stick ur arm in it up to ur elbow beautiful 365 is aton 475 torque wow....i wonder why todays cars dont give us that great torque power that get u gas mileage they seem to 400hp an even 400pounds of torque versus the old days when u could have35 percent more torque.....torque gets u off the line pros have told me and horsepower gets u down the race track.....

      Pony car? No. The Ford Mustang was the original and still the best pony car. Muscle car? Sure if it comes with a big block 352 Parkard motor, yeah I'd be all over that. Ths speedsters were some the best looking of the Lowey coupes. Enjoy..

      Yes but it was essentially the same engine that was used in racing for the year and a half before. Technically, it was available for the street in 65' but it was a racing engine building block sold as is with no warranty. That purpose built HEMI in those "Street" cars idled at very high RPM and the vehicle would include posted warnings meant for racers eyes only: (this car intended for supervised acceleration trials and not - etc., etc.) The option was rare, expensive and (impractical if you weren't a race car builder), so even though there are rumors that it would occasionally happen, normal people typically couldn't get their hands on them at all. But the intention was to get these cars into racer's hands mostly for class style racing that specified certain factory street equipment be intact. The 100 or so lightened "Street" cars built for this purpose in 1965 were optioned RO51(Plymouth/Hemi/Lynch Road Assembly). None were convertibles, and very few were hard tops. Most all were post sedans. They were the feared and respected terrors that became the A990 cars. They were in fact brutal enough to end up shackled by the sanctioning bodies. It had become common to see Dodges and Plymouths facing each other in finals all over the country.

    Sad how Chrysler had the most beautiful cars in the fifties to the ugliest in the sixties. They certainly got better by 1968.
