Adam, This is a outstanding explanation of basic hydraulics. Paul is a very knowledgeable instructor. I can't wait for session 3.

Great video. Sessions 1 and 2 helped take me from newb to building a system. I searched plenty and didn't find anything anywhere near as informative as this series. As many other comments already say, it would be fantastic to see sessions 3 and 4.

Paul is doing an excellent job of de-mystifying hydraulics for me. What a great teacher. Clear, concise and easy to understand. Can't wait for the next episode!

I think your tutorials are very good. I've never heard a lecturer so clear in the effects of and purpose of each part of a hydraulic system. ( I'm retired and well over 65)

Adam, Paul: thanks for doing this. I'm an old country hydraulics guy, which means my tractor has hydraulics and I don't know squat about the hydraulics. Thanks for doing this, if for nothing else the safety part.

  • @KnolltopFarms

Thank you to Paul for sharing his knowledge with us, it is very kind and generous of you to take your time and energy to teach us. I know that test stand didn't walk to Adam's shop by itself, and I really appreciate you bringing it out to show, and I also enjoyed that failed pump, and can only imagine the things you see that you can't carry around with you!
He he, it was fun seeing Adam's hand twitching @ 11:26 as it instinctively wanted to shut the valve and stop the cavitation! It must've been tough to fight all of your years of experience and allow the demo stand to "fail", even if that's what it's set up to do, huh?
Glad you both are continuing the series, and again I thank you for the time and effort to produce and edit this series. Aloha...Chuck.

Excellent video, most informative Adam and Paul. All I ever see are those silver breather caps and I never realised how very useful information about lots of things including oil colour and filter flow.

Great teacher! As a plumbing contractor understanding the basics of hydraulics is a time and money saver. Is it simple? fix it. If it is beyond my pay-grade, time to get it to a professional. Thank you.

Thank you for another excellent presentation as always Adam. I've watched nearly all of yours and Keith's videos over the last year or so and I'm working my way through Tom's and the rest of the gang's most evenings. You're a modest and humble guy but a big man with a big heart and I probably speak for everyone else in saying that having spent so long with you 'in your shop' I consider you to be a personal friend, even though we'll probably never meet; unless you invite us all over to Florida some day!
I got my ABOM79 hoodie shipped here to England a few weeks ago and I look forward to wearing it in the shop in winter. Hopefully I'll start to make my own videos of projects like my GMC Typhoon engine rebuild once the workshop's finished. I'll start a new channel and let you guys know if/when the time comes but don't hold your breath! Got a metric Bridgeport and a couple of old South Bends, (a 9C & a 10L), to restore too like Brad, aka BasementShopGuy, though I doubt I'll make as thorough a job of them.
Anyway, I can't wait to hear all about 1500psi oil injection in the next video; sounds like a barrel of laughs!
    Keep 'em comin' big guy!

Hey Adam. I'm a total noob to this kind of stuff but it's really great to have a baseline education. I imagine myself being 10 years down the road and the lingering memories of these videos saving me a few grand. I'm a Cisco Network Engineer by trade but my backup plan is building physical mechanisms instead of virtual. Keep up with the great material man... I'll be with you every step of the way.

another common fail on motor/pump assembly is that the splines coupling the motor to the pump wears out causing a flow drop in the system in this particular case both motor and pump should be replaced in pairs... just adding a few cents...great video I am subscribing !!

This is a great subject with great visual aids and a great dialogue. However please ask Paul to work on thinning down the rhetorical "OK"s and "alright"s at the end of each and every statement. It could drive a solitary confinement prisoner to beg for his cell back. He knows his stuff and it is very very interesting but hard to listen to with the repetitious interrogation. Great video other than that and right on the mark. Doug

The problems of failure are more complex when your 30 gallon hydraulic tank is also an 8 speed transmission case.
