The computer killed the cinema so there are no movie stars. There is no venue for development of movie stars...no studio system....and the public does not care.
Two of my favorite Barbara Stanwyck films are "The Bitter Tea of General Yen" and "The Miracle Woman". Oddly two of her probably rarest films in a long list of films made over many future years. The years go by and later favorites are "Clash by Night" and "The Furies" not to forget her television performance in "The Thornbirds".

I had never considered that her lack of Academy Award recognition was due to being an independant actress without the support of a studio to prmote her. Fascinating point. She certainly deserved one for any number of films. Ive never seen a bad Stanwyck performance. She was the best.

I'm glad you addressed the situation with her adopted son because I always felt that blemished her reputation. I guess it was a case of unrealistic expectations and the fact with all she was able to achieve in life that she felt the son failed her, rather than vice versa. Keep the interviews coming.

Stanwyck was the BEST! Always have loved her, especially the 1940's films. Like Cary Grant, she was always great no matter the film. Hard nothing to compare when the actor is always superb! ...and yet no oscar. (except honorary) What a career. I think she had the finest and longest career above all her contemporaries,

I just watched "Remember the Night" last evening. One of my favourite Christmas movies. I could watch Missy read the phone book. A top 3 actress in classic films. At least for me ! ❤

40 guns!! Yes....I just saw that clip yesterday, and it is one hell of a stunt. Very dangerous, but she did it like a pro and carries on. I'm thinking she must have been a natural athlete, but we'll never know. I was raised watch Barbara Stanwyck in the movies and tv. Ray's drawing of Barbara is quite good. Great interview.
I'm just curious about a statement Ray made regarding a movie he first saw Barbara in when he was 9 years old. He referred to a scene where she woke up with sunglasses on thinking about being alone with her two sons. Do you happen to know the film Ray was referring to? My Reputation???

She wasn't wearing sunglasses, what struck me in that scene was the close-up of her eyes as she stared into space, the morning after her husband's funeral.
She had a torrid love affair with Robert Wagner. She was 45 and he was 22. She was amazing. Ruby was a real genuine star. She was abused gang raped and was as tough as a bar of iron.
"Bedroom has always been every gal s best business office ..." (85%? accurate/exact/direct Barb movie quote. Just can t recall exactly from which film). WITNESS TO MURDER is not on Yt ! (was some 7 yrs ago, briefly. Vanished ! It s like REAR WINDOW II ). EXECUTIVE SUITE, CRIME OF PASSION, CLASH BY NIGHT, THELMA JORDA(O)N - my pers favs. M.Ivers by Milchstein also sim cat.
As a comparison, STERLING HAYDEN s ashes were scattered into his beloved Bay, (off Sausalito/Angel Island ? dunno the exact area, 86. He was a sailor, not an actor, an OSS vet w Silver Star ! ).

Joel MacCrae must have been very popular with many actresses including Barbara Stanwyck. He also starred in 5 films opposite Miriam Hopkins.
