With an academic background of physical metallurgy and professional association in steel sector for more than 34 years as an engineering consultant , I can well appreciate the great significance of Material Science in every walk of life . I take this opportunity to doff my hat off to you for the very ingenious way you have powered the propagation of Material Science to a dizzy height. @@icecream9118 We use material science mainly in designing aspect for we need to choose an apt material to withstand the respective loads, environmental conditions etc. Now we obviously cannot use copper to design a bicycle coz the bicycle would burn away in summer and likewise, so in order to to make the material economical and apt for all the conditions, you need material science. And for repairing, you mainly don't need to know materials. But if you want to do some heavy work on it, like restoration etc, you again need concepts like carbon hardening, etc. So basically, you need material science in engineering works, but not in technician works.
