    Dawg I picked up Steve being totally new to tekken he already stole my heart when I saw he's a boxer and even more when I leanred he's has a combination of stances like hitman style, peekaboo and has real moves dempsey roll, white fang (not real but it's basically from hajime no ippo)

    I think the reason Steve and any boxer in most fighting games don't have grond punishers is because they're boxers. In boxing once an opponent is down you walk to your corner and wait till they are able to go. Though respectable and awesome most fighting games respect that rule for their boxing character it put them at a big disadvantage being unable to punish the opponent from the knockdown. As a Steve main I agree you gotta put work in 😂😂

  • @Dead-Lit
    @Dead-Lit ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Pakistani players say the same and set the example with Akuma: Akuma can be a difficult character to master due to his high execution. But Steve is on another level of difficulty because of his hard gameplay. If I want to execute the gatling gun as a combo ender, before playing Tekken, I have to do a hand warm-up exercise before touching the arcade stick, then practice that combo ender for 5 or 10 minutes, so that my execution can be optimal. There is no other way that works for me.
    Steve feels like a character who has everything against him, because most of the roster matchups are unfavorable to him. But despite everything, he is the character that has given me the most satisfaction in the game. Perhaps the best character a fighting game could have imho.

    • @bullseye7721
      @bullseye7721 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He doesn’t have a lot of bad match up, except marduk and may be feng. He is good on the top level, because he will punish u very hard in small tekken, like 112 and ws 12. And i13 b1 for ch fishing.
      But on low-medium level he is way too hard, because of no big lows for opening, no safe mid launchers, no plus frames except charged duck 2, terrible punishment, no easy combos from ws2, dif execution.

    • @Fco2k7
      @Fco2k7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bullseye7721 With the nerfs that have been applied to Steve, he has ended up with far fewer options to deal with the match up of most of the roster, which has made him a much more difficult character to master. Many Steve mains who play at a high level have mentioned it. Characters like Ganryu, Kunimitsu, Claudio, Alisa, have a lot of advantage over Steve, apart from the aforementioned: Feng, Marduk, Zafina, Akuma, or Geese.
      In low-mid level it's difficult, because you are on the way to know your character and you necessarily have to have experience dealing with the full roster matchup. When you manage to have an experienced Steve, you realize that many of the options you already had cannot be applied every time because they are very risky, no matter how much Steve is "low risk, high reward" kind of character.
      The hardest thing to do with Steve at high level of play is to be unpredictable with the few options that are viable at high level.

    This format is great, hope you go through most characters like this because a lot of characters general tier placements can be very confusing, zafina for example has terrible framedata, punishment and abusable lows, it seems hard to believe that movement alone can put this character next to akuma or feng.

      Zafina has great frames, her d/f2 has INSANE reach, and she has a lot of built in evasion, i mean just look at b 1+2.
      Also keep in mind that tier lists are basically ranking how good a character can do in tournaments, in other words the highest level of play. Optimal Tekken is all about being throwing safe pokes, movement and overall defensive play and Zafina excels at all these things.

  • @rolandmarks468
    @rolandmarks468 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love steve. One of the few things I had to do to actually beat people is one lab every single character moves to see what I can do against it and of course the other is be satisfactory with execution. Without matchup knowledge or execution my steve was stuck in the lower ranks because I didn’t know how to use the character and I needed to master the shiro and his key stances mainly flicker.
    I just wonder between lee and Steve who is more difficult

  • @kemalerdemsahin410
    @kemalerdemsahin410 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Df2's staple combo difficulty hurts him against evasive characters a lot, thats his only decent tool against evasive characters. I hope in next patch shiro combo wouldn't be necessary for df2. Move already has zero tracking, comes out at 16 frames and all that execution goes for just 57 damage. They nerfed that move so much and I'm ok to some nerfs but nerfing the combo is not one of them.

    • @DonArgus28
      @DonArgus28 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hate playing against good steves but I agree about how unnecessary it is making d/f2 linear. Even the move's animation itself looks like it's supposed to track, or at least make it track one side.

    • @frantschou2369
      @frantschou2369 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope they improve him a little for Tekken 8. Nothing major, he’s very good already, just give him back his homing d/f2 and we’re golden.
      It’s just strange how in a game with characters like Geese, Akuma, Julia, Feng or Zafina the devs feel like Steve is too strong with his homing d/f2. Like all that other bullshit is fine, but Steve’s d/f2 ? That’s where they draw the line.

    • @kylefields3951
      @kylefields3951 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DonArgus28 My thing is that yes, the animation portrays a move that is a huge swinging wide roundhouse hook, so it's not unreasonable to have it track. My problem with them taking away the Homing, is that they didn't give the Homing property to anything else. Now Steve is literally the *ONLY* character in the entire game that doesn't have a Homing move from his regular fighting stance. Literally Steve can't guaranteed track you while standing. He has to be in Peekaboo Stance to guaranteed track you. It's not the biggest deal, so I understand why the devs didn't care so much since 1, 2, 1 and Back 1 track absurdly anyway, but Steve can't actually guaranteed lock you down with a Homing move unless he's in Peekaboo. No other character has this specific gap in fundamental system mechanics. It's not even a downside really if I'm being honest, it's just strange.

    I wouldn't disagree with Steve being hard to optimize, but the thing about Steve is that even at 50% efficiency, he's works just as well as other characters at 70-80%. Also b1 is such a godly move that I can't believe Majin didn't talk about it more

    • @MichaelSS
      @MichaelSS ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is exactly the thing
      Steve can absolutely mess up a bunch of all these things and still be safe.
      He has a million and one staggers and moves that are neutral to -2 at worst.
      It might be hard to optimise Steve but it's an absolute bitch to fight him.
      B1 alone sets the pace of most matches and he has the best best best rage drive by a mile.
      Why is d+2,1 safe?

    • @PSNDarkSouL
      @PSNDarkSouL ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Michael Muhoro he needs to be safe or he would actually be one of the worst characters. I play Steve (Tekken King atm) at high level he's really hard to win with when everyone at this point in T7 is playing his worst match up. You definitely have to be exceptionally good at Tekken to win with Steve at high level with this current patch trust me. There are characters like Feng,Marduk, an Leroy he take no execution and are much better imo so Steve is fine. He actually needs a bit of a re work to make him slightly better, not broken or brain dead but a bit better than he is now

    • @MichaelSS
      @MichaelSS ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@PSNDarkSouL My point is his safety is what stops him from being a struggle character like people seem to make him out to be. The man has great setups, Oki and great damage! Not even counting his wall combo, people make it seem like it's his only wall combo or that you absolutely must use df2 as Steve.
      He has bad matchups, no doubt about that, but so does everyone else.
