Agree 100% , open hand strikes to the neck/throat, side and back of the head are highly effective . Love your videos, they are practical and to the point !

In traditional bare knuckle boxing was the verticle fist applied with striking surface area contact with the inside larger two knuckles or the outside bottom three knuckles?
Jack Dempsey and Bruce Lee were proponents of the upward angle trajectory verticle or oblique fist three knuckle contact landing.
By the way, next time you bump into your friend Oz Austwick, buy him a Stella Atois as he got me interested in your new book about Captain Fairbairn's combatives methodology entitled the Shanghai School of Streetfighting!!!

Many didn't talk about which knuckles, just how to align the fist (vertical or horizontal)

Try the old leopard paw strike to the throat or use the web of the thumb.

Old -time jiujitsu was really practical. Then Bruce Lee came along and martial arts switched to fantasy.

Bruce Lee had strong, practially effective kicks and hand strikes.
I believe you are confusing theatrical Jeet Kune Do with actual self defense Jeet Kune Do.
In the book series Bruce Lee's Fighting Method by Bruce Lee and M. Uyehara check-out the volume entitled Self-Defense Techniques.
All of the techniques are well balanced connected to the ground, implementationally practical and highly effective.
By the way, your comment just made me realise where the expression
      "Down to Earth" Emanates From"!!!

@@TonyqTNT I used to work with someone who was a student at Bruce Lee's school in LA. He told me you would punch and Lee would punch faster. You would kick and he would just kick faster. Works great if you are Bruce Lee.
I had an old jiujitsu book when I was a kid where the people in the illustrations were wearing suits and hats. Even without a teacher or someone to practice with, those techniques worked for me.

@@Duende402 Oh, I understand what you're saying completely. Grew up practicing practical jiu-jitsu with my friends and cousins. In my older years I've been studying the WWII combatives methods of Captain W. E. Fairbairn.I know Bruce Lee was just faster, more athletic, and better than everyone. But you gotta remember the context of the 1960s. Lee was in his early 20s in the 60s and married young with a wife and children to support, his martial arts was a vehicle to gain notiriety among the Hollywood set to land movie and TV roles. Sure his techniques were highly athletic and flashy. But in collaboration with his close friends he was always working on practically effective martial arts self-defense technique methodologies. After landing and completing his first internationally acclaimed and popular motion picture Enter the Dragon his life was tragicly cut short. He was just getting into his thirties and attaing financial independence for himself and family. Could you imagine how his art would have evolved as he got older with time to research and experiment as much as he wanted to? I'm sure his art would become more accessibly practical to a broader range of people as his striking and grappling methods would become more operationally deployable to people with varying levels of physical capabilities.

Martial arts deteriorated long before him. A part is to blame on the British Empire and a lot on WWI. Lee had BTW two very distinct fighting styles: one for camera and one for SD.
