Worked for me so far too! I had a cracked 3.0 Merc. Crack appeared to be internal as I had no exterior leakage and oil was getting milky. Last weekend I constructed a tank of about 8 gallons to allow my cooling water to recirc and used a whole bottle of K&N block sealer, ran for about 15-20 minutes and it appeared to have sealed the crack. I ran the engine again this week for about 15 min on the muffs and oil looked good after. Super pleased obviously.
@@Absolutecleanrestore I have a pretty craptastic video which really only shown my basin full of steaming water. I basically tried to make the volume as little as feasible since one bottle of goop was only good for 10 to 15 gallon of water as I recall. I made it out of some 1 by 2 s and some plywood and plastic sheeting I had laying around. Made the box and lined with the sheeting
Heres my video. www.dropbox.com/s/w38gsdapq8i03wf/Hard%20to%20believe.mp4?dl=0 you may want to consider running the engine with black used oil. Water likely shows up a lot easier in dirty oil then clean oil. The dirty oil will turn a light brown I can't say what clean oil will look like though. After the repair I filled with clean oil and ran for a while. It did not appear milky and the level on the dipstick did not rise as some other people have reported when they had water leaks into the engine.
Took my boart out last summer for 30 minutes and it held up. Still fixin rotten wood issues so still haven't used the boat regularly yet unfortunately.
Hi, Brian, I am planning to use your technique on a 5.7L Volvo Penta. My question is whether the sealer left any permanent residue on your prop or outdrive?
So I have milky oil coming from valve cover gaskets meaning I might have a cracked block so if I did this it won’t hurt the engine with all that milky oil in it ?
Brian I just bought a boat with the same motor in you video you said a milky substance came out of the crank ? When I started mine the other day for the first time the 2 hoses on the top of mine blew a bunch all over the place should I be concerned?
Doesn't really matter just mix which ever product you buy according to the label (gal/product ratio) and circulate it through the engine until it reaches operating temperature. I did it twice just for good measure.
No I reused the same fluid, but ran the engine up to temp again. This wasn't really need as the the oil no longer had water in it after the first treatment but I felt there was no harm in the added assurance.
If you have water in the oil and you run it long it will ruin the bearings ! Pull the intake off it takes 30 minutes to pull and if the block is cracked put some jb weld or quick steel epoxy on it and it will fix it .
What happened ? Did it fix it , if not I would bet you have a crack on the right side of the block under the intake , I have seen it hundred of times , I will tell you if you pull the intake and you look on the right side and see the crack , clean it up really good and get you some quick steel epoxy and put on it it will fix it !
Sorry for not getting back to you, it did fix it actually got a whole summer in the lake with no further issues other than the starter. What's a boat without something to fix right.
Brian Browning WOW! I think I have this exact problem. I was at the AUTO store looking at a head gasket pour and go solution called blue devil. I was told this wouldnt work at all. I thought about a huge tub and just let it all run through the tub just like you. So for sure this fixed it? That is badass!
FamilyMan I have an old mercruier like this it was not winterized and foamy stuff came out the tube at the top (that goes back to the carb intake) could that be where to look for possible cracked block? fix or replace?
Hi, Andrew, I messaged Brian but since it's been a few years, he may not answer. When you did this, did you have any residual product stick to your prop or outdrive? Thanks, Tom
I have a 4.3 Mercruiser and it has steam coming out of the exhaust and a little water in the oil. Other than that it does not over heat and sounds great. Did this fix your issue? A mechanic told me to get this and use it instead of paying $600 for a head job for an older boat. I'm really considering this.
It did fix my issue, I did not have any further water in the oil all summer. I put another 60 to 70 hrs on the boat. It was a bit of a science experiment but I too didnt want to throw money into a new engine or block.
I am going to attempt the same thing. I am just a little confused on how to get the water circulating because I don't have big buckets. I am searching for another way, if all fails I will be making a trip to Home Depot or Lowes. LOL
Try some Rubbermaid totes they are inexpensive. If you got one long one that may be all you need. I used two smaller ones because that's all I had at the time.
do you people not think whatever you put in will be ran out by the water in the lake the reason it works on a vehicle is because it is a sealed unit constantly circulating unlike water from the lake which is being replenished this will not work if so it will only be for one trip if that

Well said Jessica , I think people just don't realize that while the heads are off they will be checked and skimmed if necessary valve seats inspected and reground , pistons and bores inspected for play and wear , then all put back together with new gaskets , valve seals and head bolts , ect, ect , . I really don't think that comes in a bottle, as a boat mechanic I can tell you I wish it did
@@jessicasmith7596 I just seen your post and i put blue devil in mine 6 years ago and would be happy to make you a video where she cranks cold with a bump of the starter..just saying don't knock it till you try it

Anthony any pics or videos of how you did it. Would like more info on your set up. Im about to do the same

Did it work?? Please share the result.
Was your oil milky on the dip stick in addition to the milky oil coming out of the breathers?
Good question
So I have milky oil coming from valve cover gaskets meaning I might have a cracked block so if I did this it won’t hurt the engine with all that milky oil in it ?
And I’m confused so what’s hooked up to the water sock ? The water hose or sump pump?

Yes
Cool video. Why not give it a try? Doesn't hurt anything. Can save $1500.
How did you set up the hoses on your out drive
what caused the block crack.
Where do I pour this stuff to seal it?
Hey Brian am thinking about trying this product this week,,,, where did you pour the product on the bucket or the hose by motor?

Ok so u did it twice meaning 1 bottle each time u did the treatment right?

What are the steps you take after you run the product.
Hose off the engine? Waiting period to see if it worked and so forth?

Not much proof this lasts long term. If you've been stranded on the water, you dont skimp on repairs. It's not like a car breakdown
