  • This is an update video showing the stupid mistake I made that killed a bunch of Chukar Partridge chicks unnecessarily. Really makes me sad. But hopefully my dumb mistake will prevent you guys from doing something similar.

One thing I have learned, is to always soak food.. I only offer soaked feed, seed, grain , even for adults. Then they are always getting water and do not dehydrate so easily. Food expands, releases more nutrients and they eat less, do not need excess water to hydrate food in crop. I have lost zero chicks or birds sense doing this. ❤️ your videos very informative

I totally feel ya, We all make mistakes. I just left my outdoor pen unlocked, raccoons figured out how to get in and killed al 20 of my Quail. I knew better i don’t know what I was thinking. Been doing this where raccoons live for 13 years

I am completely inexperienced and trying quail for the first time. It has been interesting. I am finally able to get these stinky overcrowded birds out of my basement and now I see rat activity out in the garage that I moved them to. Wish me luck keeping them alive and well. Do your best and when you know better we do better.

I've noticed that the HT brooders can spike up to 104f degrees in the top part if you're set at 40C. But quail are also a bit smaller so won't be as close to the heating element as other chicks. I set it at the max 40c when I first put them in, then notch it down 1C every other day or so. I'm very sorry you lost babies. I really value your content and sharing the rough times can be even more educational, so thank you.

Dont be too hard on yourself. Its evident how much you care for your animals. Even the most seasoned of farmers make mistakes at times. Keep up the good work. You've inspired me to give quail and rabbits a try.
